“Speechify is absolutely brilliant. Growing up with dyslexia this would have made a big difference. I’m so glad to have it today.“

This is my favorite reader app- and I've tried MANY. Thank you so much. I love being able to correct pronunciation now, too. Sometimes the speech engine might be ignoring those, but I also haven't tried the paid options yet. Someday I hope to be able to rename files and organize them in folders, and make the lockscreen controls bigger when driving, but really those are more suggestions than complaints. Thank you again!
Text To Speech (TTS) is a program that turns written text into an auditory narrative, and Evie uses it to read books. The outstanding Amazon Polly Text To Speech engine, which is integrated with Evie, is from Amazon. To create speech that sounds like human speech, Polly, a cloud service, makes use of cutting-edge deep learning algorithms. Any installed TTS engine on your phone can also be used by Evie. Evie contains capabilities that are often seen in music player applications in addition to the functionality you would expect to find in reading apps: Even when the screen is off and Evie is reading in the background, she can still read aloud. With Bluetooth or wired headphones, the buttons on your earbuds let you control playback. Through Bluetooth, Evie can connect to your car stereo. The buttons in your car can be used to play, pause, and skip forward or backward. Your lock screen or the notifications drawer are where you may control it. Grasp this opportunity to relax your eyes. While driving, read a book. Exercise while listening to a book. whatever time you are gardening. Alternately, read a book before bed. Evie reads DRM-free ePub ebooks that you download from the internet, your phone, or other device. Additionally, it can open HTML pages so that you can hear aloud the articles from your preferred news source. The Text To Speech voices are the most easily managed with Evie. With your phone's TTS engines installed, you can read books in any language that is supported. Evie adjusts voices automatically to match the language of the book based on your language-specific selections for the TTS Engine and Voice. Evie gives you the option to alter the speech pace as well as the length of the pauses at the beginning and finish of phrases, allowing you to precisely match the speech to your own personal style. A sleep timer function is quite simple to utilize in Evie. Evie will stop reading at the predetermined time after you activate it with a simple swipe. A simple touch of the earphones' button will allow you to restart the timer if it has already expired. For both the current chapter and the entire book, Evie accurately determines how much listening time is left. Also included is a thorough overview to the Text To Speech Engines and Voices that are offered in the Play Store for your convenience.
ZoomText is a powerful program with many great features, BUT think twice before investing the money. AI Squared sells primarily to government organizations purchasing items for clients. We all know what happens in industries where government funds are the primary sources of revenue. Companies become arrogant and overpriced. For example, in addition to ZoomText's excessive price, they offer little or no support between operating systems. I have owned 3 versions of ZoomText. Every time I upgrade my operating system, I have to BUY the new version (or the "upgrade" to a new version) for my ZoomText. AI Squared produces a new version of its product every time Windows produces a new operating system, and the old version WILL NOT work on a new operating system. That's right, it is not backwards compatible--built in obsolescence. Programmers could simply produce a patch for the new operating system, but instead the company takes the opportunity to fleece customers out of $200 to $300 (used to be more). The company just assumes that most customers will use a government program and funding to buy the upgrade; so, it doesn't bother them that many clients can't afford the upgrade. Windows and OSX now offers many of the same features offered by ZoomText including magnification, reading, and even converting text to audio files--if you own recent versions you have these features for free. But even if you don't, instead of spending the money on ZoomText, with just a little more money, you can actually buy a Mac which offers features superior to ZoomText embedded in the OS. So, instead of investing into this cycle, just through a few more dollars into the computer and the accessibility features you need, without the constant expensive upgrades.major
ZoomText is a screen magnification application that allows users with low vision to enlarge and modify the visual experience on the computer screen. Some of the features include: Allows a broad range of screen magnification between 1-36x Built-in technology that makes the display of text at all levels of magnification smooth and easy to read Read documents directly from Word, etc. Ability to modify and enhance screen colors to reduce eye strain Allows you to modify your mouse and text cursors to make finding them on the screen easier Ability to turn text from documents, web pages, email, etc. into audio recordings Support for multiple monitors
Once I get more books from other places I will be very happy. Right now everything that I have on my phone comes through Amazon or from the library and this will not read either of them I have difficulty even trying to share to this app. I love the potential. I love the ease. I love all the different features. Except everything I want to read right now is inaccessible. I guess you could call it melancholy Joy.

Love this TTS app! The built in network voices are so smooth and natural that I can listen to books (I use this for reading fanfic) while doing chores, driving, at work, etc. One downside is that I can't play music and listen to books at the same time or change the pitch of the reader, but tbh those are a minor trade off for the amazing voice quality! It can also record the TTS for saving and listening offline, which is great for not using data :)

Best reader, hands down. If it's do-able, I'd LOVE to be able to change the color of Evie in-app; the blue area at the top of the screen where the icons all are, as well as the highlighting part that's currently a pink color. I'm personally a fan of red, purple and full black. But if a "color wheel" could be a thing, that would be amazing also. Just an idea I had. It's not vital, just more on the aesthetic side of things, haha. Zero pressure, I promise

My wife is legally blind. She uses the program and tools everyday. ZoomText 10 has many new features and improvements.

Used this for at least 15 years. In the beginning was an outstanding, enabling breakthrough for which I was grateful. Company continues to add features and it's better by far than OS accessibility. Best dedicated low vision PC solution. Recently they seem to be struggling. Their are quite a few bugs. Not entirely compatible with Office 365. Price remains high including upgrades, while the cost of other software has declined. No subscription SASS model.

This product works well for the most part but it suffers from numerous bugs that require me to restart ZoomText several times a day. This product has many features, but I never use most of them. Would certainly prefer a product with fewer features and also fewer bugs. Here are a few of the bugs that drive me crazy with this product. Windows XP Seems to disable the start menu after a few hours of use. Restarting the application will restore your start menu. Windows 7 Disables task bar, alt tab etc (the only way to switch between applications is to minimize, but as you can't maximize this only works one way). Only way to get around this is to turn off magnification with the hot key (computer will crash if you don't) bring up the windows task manager and then kill Zoom Text from there. Another common difficulty is attempting to use the app reader to read long web pages. It has to process the entire page before it can start so this will either take a long time (sometimes several minutes) or crash the computer depending on how long the web page is. There seems to be no way to cancel once you realize it is going to take a long time. Another problem the App reader seems to develop after a few hours of use is that it will begin reading froma random part of the document and not allow you to direct it to the portion of the document you want it to read. This can be resolved by restarting the application but it is very annoying. It also disables aero under windows 7, something the windows magnifier seems to operate just dandily without having to do. This product goes a long way to make the computer more accessible for those with visual impairments, but the bugs, of which I have only mentioned a few drive me crazy. Hopefully the next release will focus on fixes and performance instead of features.
