“Speechify is absolutely brilliant. Growing up with dyslexia this would have made a big difference. I’m so glad to have it today.“

To the team at TextAloud, I love you guys. Your product helped me get my second master's degree. I was able to read so much more material since I was able to convert it and listen as I drove or worked, and it ultimately gave me back 15 hours or more a week in which I could do homework. When it came to my reading on scientific journals and more, TextAloud allowed me to do the unheard of and actually read them. That never happened before. TextAloud also made me a better writer. I always listen to my papers, to edit for style and grammar, before I submit them. I recommend your product to friends and students all the time. I can't imagine being without it now -- thank you.Micheline H.

WordTalk is a Word toolbar extension developed by the University of Edinburgh that adds customisable text-to-speech to Microsoft Word. It is compatible with all versions of Word and can be accessed from the toolbar or ribbon, depending on the version being used. The toolbar itself is obviously not the most aesthetically pleasing thing you'll ever see, since it appears to have been created by a toddler. Neither are the functions of all the buttons clear, but thankfully a help file is available. WordTalk's simplicity is undeniable, however the program does support SAPI 4 and SAPI 5 voices, which can be customized. The option to read individual words, sentences, or paragraphs aloud is an especially nice feature. There is also the possibility to save narrations, and a number of keyboard shortcuts provide quick and easy access to frequently used options.See how Speechify compares with WordTalk
I've used TextAloud every day since ALS robbed me of speech, and use it with Dasher to communicate. It's been my link to those I love for eight years or more. TextAloud has kept me purposeful. Disability robs purpose from our life, but TextAloud greatly mitigated my loss by providing the capacity of verbal communication. I first got the software for Windows XP or 2000, and for every upgrade, the NextUp techs have been there for me. It's probably the only software I've used steadily and seamlessly through a half dozen operating systems. My hospice nurses and doctors marvel at my ability to dialogue with them. I tell you my world would be diminished without TextAloud. I can't express how grateful I am to its developers.
I am a very satisfied NextUp customer. I started using TextAloud for my college classes as I am not the best student in the world and could use the extra help. Getting PDF files of the books and reading along with the audio made it much easier to remember the material. I also used it for long articles, going over my resume, and for work manuals. It is one thing to try and read an extremely boring regulation, and another to let it play in the background and find the sections that are most important to you (and still know the rest at least a little). I also use TextAloud on a lot of materials I might have not even bothered to read. Like a friend who says 'you should read this' when I really don’t want to or have the time -- but with TextAloud I can listen as I drive in to work or when I am out to lunch. Purchasing TextAloud has been one of my better purchases in life. I know that seems a bit outlandish but I use more often than not. Many thanks from a happy customer!
I've used TextAloud for a number of years to help with my writing. I am, admittedly, a technology novice, but I know what I like, and TextAloud has been invaluable for editing, as it lets me hear missing words my brain supplies when I read -- as well as other things ears detect when eyes are on autopilot. I've often recommended your product and now I can also add kudos to your customer service.
Our youngest son (8 years old) attends a school for children who are dyslexic
One of a variety of tools used at the school is TextAloud
The goal here is to have it assist the student when he or she needs a word pronounced or a portion of the text read to them
This software allows the student to work as independently as possible
Our 18 year old son is also dyslexic and is a college freshman
He also uses TextAloud in two ways
To assist him in reading textbooks and mp3 recordings of the textbooks so that he may listen to them at any time
He has an above average I.Q
but would never be able to keep up with all the reading a freshman does without your software
The Disabilities department at the school scans his textbooks and uses OCR software to turn the files into text
We then use TextAloud to do the rest
We expected him to have to struggle to keep up with History and English, but to our surprise he is excelling in those subjects
This would not have been possible without the aid of your software
I use this program with a reading disability
I convert documents to MP3 and play them on my iPod
This allows me to listen to business documents while I am on the go
I use TextAloud every day to help me read, e-mails, read online books and just checking my own documents to make sure they make sense.
Integrates with Microsoft Word
Speaking dictionary to help decide the word spelling
A little unattractive
