Speechify is absolutely brilliant. Growing up with dyslexia this would have made a big difference. I’m so glad to have it today.

ThinkSpace reviews

For those of you familiar with the cult favorite Tinderbox app on the Mac, this application comes the closest I’ve seen to replicating Tinderbox’s map experience. It’s not there yet — long form text can’t yet be associated with the nodes on the map. There’s no tagging outside of color. No nesting of nodes. But, it has a super simple, clean, mapping UI. Keep an eye on this one.

This is my very first review. I just spent 2 hours searching for an alternative app to draw mind maps because the one that I used is now charging a super high subscription fee. I guess the developer sacrifice efficiency for flexibility. You can organize the map in any way you want. Therefore, the cards are not automatically aligned, and you cannot create a sibling card by just press return which is a feature of other mind mapping apps. I think I can live with this small shortcoming for now. I do hope that a desktop version can be developed. I am not used to do extensive work on iPad.

- Sylvia on the road

I have been using the iOS version of Thinkspace on my iPad for a while and love it. It fills the mind-mapping app niche in a way that no other app does, so I was pleasantly suprised to see the macOS version in the App Store. The macOS 1.0.0 version seems to be a direct port of the iOS app, and the differences in the desktop versus mobile UIs are apparent. For example, zooming in and out on iOS is a simple pinch gesture that relies on the iOS touch interface. I have not found a way to zoom on the macOS version, since I do not have a multi-touch HID device such as a trackpad on my iMac. I hope to see a mouse/keyboard/menu-based way to zoom in the next update.

Freedom reviews

being able to extend this freedom to all your devices is a tremendous benefit. I can be in the middle of a writing session, and get distracted by a notification on my phone. Not anymore with Freedom.

- Kathy Edens

It’s super easy to set time limitations on distracting sites like Facebook, while at the same time allow for another few hours of watching MasterClass because you’re learning valuable skills.

- Login Lockdown

I’ve been using Freedom for some time now, and honestly, I believe it gets the job done. I don’t touch my phone, no notifications popup on my screen, etc.

Pros & cons

ThinkSpace

Pros
Optimal for free form brainstorming
Limitless canvas sizes
Structure freely

Cons
Long form text can’t yet be associated with the nodes on the map
No tagging outside of color
No nesting of nodes

Freedom

Pros
Customized blocking: Freedom is very easy to customize based on your productivity needs
You can block as many or as few sites as you want, for as long as you want
It’s also easy to block all sites and apps with just a few exceptions
Habit-building: By setting up recurring blocks, you can develop good productivity habits on your own
(After a while, you might not even need the app!) It’s tough at first, but you’ll get used to not reaching for your phone or checking out Facebook every half hour
Affordable pricing: Although there is no long-term free plan (you can enjoy 7 free sessions as a free trial), Freedom’s subscription pricing is pretty affordable, coming in at just $3.33/month when you pay annually.

Cons
Some features are web-only: Some features, including Focus Sounds, are only available for browsers, not mobile apps
Requires a lot of permissions: Understandably, Freedom requires permission to block or restrict certain apps, websites, and notifications
Freedom guarantees that it does not send your data to their servers and that it always respects your privacy, but still, those who are extra concerned about privacy and security might be hesitant to grant admin-level permissions
Sluggish time tracking reportTracking time is only half the job
The other half is providing a thorough report on your activities
And this is where Freedom fails dramatically.
