"Speechify is absolutely brilliant. Growing up with dyslexia this would have made a big difference. I’m so glad to have it today."

Most popular feedback for Voice Dream Reader

If I could, I would just sit around reading book after book, day after day. Unfortunately, the real world doesn’t work that way. Voice Dream Reader is a GODSEND for those of us that love books but don’t have the time to sit down and read them. I’m into a lot of indie authors, and while more and more are choosing narration, there will always be books that don’t make it that far. Frankly, after finding this app, I care less about whether or not books make it to audio format at all. I’m able to convert all my Kindle books into the right format to upload to Voice Dream Reader and go! Needless to say, my library is huge and VDR handles it like a pro. I thought I might be bothered by the monotone computer voice, but I find that I completely tune it out and focus on the story at hand. Now, what would I improve? More voices to purchase! “James” is my go-to most of the time, but I would love a larger variety than what is available. Also, if I try to listen to my Reading List through my Apple Watch, I can’t use any of my purchased voices at all. I’m still giving this app five stars because I’ve yet to come across something better and it’s by far one of my best app purchases ever. Keep up the good work!

About Voice Dream Reader

Voice Dream Reader has two main functions: it converts text to speech and it helps writers proofread their work. Voice Dream Reader can read any text aloud in 30 languages and 186 voices, making it ideal for readers who struggle with dyslexia, vision issues, or simply understand better auditorily. To improve comprehension and retention, words are automatically highlighted on the screen. The user can change the font size, color, and spacing, as well as highlight or take notes. Voice Dream Reader can help writers find the right words by conducting phonetic and meaning searches ("enuf" brings up the word "enough," and "giant water mammal" brings up "whale"). It generates an outline automatically to assist writers in structuring their documents—reordering sections is as simple as dragging and dropping. Proofreading is as simple as listening. When writers hear their work read aloud, they are more likely to notice grammar mistakes, typos, and awkward wording.

About WordTalk

WordTalk is a Word toolbar extension developed by the University of Edinburgh that adds customisable text-to-speech to Microsoft Word. It is compatible with all versions of Word and can be accessed from the toolbar or ribbon, depending on the version being used. The toolbar itself is obviously not the most aesthetically pleasing thing you'll ever see, since it appears to have been created by a toddler. Neither are the functions of all the buttons clear, but thankfully a help file is available. WordTalk's simplicity is undeniable, however the program does support SAPI 4 and SAPI 5 voices, which can be customized. The option to read individual words, sentences, or paragraphs aloud is an especially nice feature. There is also the possibility to save narrations, and a number of keyboard shortcuts provide quick and easy access to frequently used options.

Voice Dream Reader reviews

“As a user myself and as a mother of a child with dyslexia, I am blown away by the features of Voice Dream. My son is now reading, I survived: The bombing of Pearl Harbor, which his teacher did not let him read for the free reading period of the day because it was too advanced for him.”

- Quartz

“Overall, I am very impressed with what Voice Dream Reader delivers. This is not a cheap TTS plain text file reader, but a polished text-to-speech player that offers a high-quality, beautifully realized reading and listening experience. If you are a consumer of vast text-based content who is always on the go or just want to expand your listening library beyond music and podcasts, Voice Dream Reader is a dream come true.”

- iPhoneLife

“Voice Dream Reader is hailed by many as the best mobile text-to-speech (TTS) app. It has potential uses by those with physical and learning challenges as well as those without. Any student, for example, who struggles with comprehension and retention of written information could benefit.”
