Wordwall can be used for both interactive and printable activities. Many of our templates can be used in both an interactive or printable format. Interactives can be used on any web-enabled device such as a tablet, phone, computer or interactive whiteboard. You can play them individually by students or teacher-led, with students taking turns at each other’s front. You can print them out straight away or download them as a PDF file. They can be used in conjunction with the interactive or independently. Our activities are created using a template. These templates include familiar classics such as crossword and quiz. There are also arcade games like maze chase or airplane and classroom management tools like seating plan. You can create a new activity by selecting a template and then entering your content. It’s simple and you can create an interactive activity in just a few minutes.

Wordwall activities can be used as student-completed assignments. When a teacher sets an assignment, students are directed to that particular activity. This feature can be used in-class when students have access to their own devices, or as a way of assigning homework. To set an assignment, go to an activity page and click the Share button. Choose Set Assignment to configure student access and results tracking. The next page displays a unique access link you can communicate to your students. When the students visit the activity through this link, their results are recorded and made available to the teacher. Any activity you create can also be made public. This allows you to share it via email or another means of communication with students or colleagues. It also allows other teachers to find the activity in the Community search results. Finally, Wordwall activities can be embedded into another website or learning management system using an HTML embed code. The activity becomes playable directly from the website in which it is embedded.

Word Wall's games are versatile -- easy enough for very young pre-readers to play, yet increasingly challenging for new readers further along the path to practice their skills in fun ways. As kids complete simple word-building puzzles, pull letters out of bubbles to spell words, find hidden words, and play a word-to-picture match game on Word Wall HD, they’re gaining pre-reading skills. Matching letters and word families in the Writing ABCs and Writing Words sections help kids identify words and patterns on their own. There are also cute stickers (who doesn't love stickers?) and a "word wall" for kids to collect favorite words. Potential improvements: It would be nice to see more complexity and interactivity. For example, in the Writing ABCs activity, kids simply choose a letter and drag it onto a shaded version of the same letter; no writing (or even tracing) is involved.

If you are looking to add a new digital tool to your teaching, this is a very good place to start. User experience. This is the perfect tool to look at if you are short of time, even if you are not very confident with technology. You just need a computer or tablet connected to the internet, and after setting up an account (no problem), you can quickly start creating interactive activities or printable worksheets. The concept is simple: use the templates to create well-known activity types such as multiple choice, grouping or matching, or more complex games and quizzes. You can use a limited number of templates for free, and because Wordwall is web-based, with a good connection you can create activities quickly and easily in a matter of minutes.
