An overview of the Demon Slayer series

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba is a Japanese fantasy manga series and comic book by Koyoharu Gotouge. It follows Tanjiro Kamado, a young boy living in Taisho-era Japan who becomes the sole survivor of his family after demons kill them. He then sets out to save his sister Nezuko who has transformed into a demon.

The graphic novels debuted in February 2016 in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine. Since its release, Demon Slayer has become one of the most popular manga in Japan, selling over 150 million copies, making it the 11th most-sold manga series after classics like One Piece. It also featured an anime adaptation from 2019 and a movie based on the manga’s Mugen Train arc.

Koyoharu Gotouge is best known for creating Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, which proved to be an instant success when it was first published in 2016. He was the first manga artist to land on Time’s 100 Most Influential People list.

    Volume 1: Cruelty

Demon Slayer Volume 1 follows the story of Tanjiro Kamado, a charcoal merchant boy who becomes a demon slayer after his family is killed by a demon. He and his sister Nezuko are the sole survivors, but Nezuko has transformed into one herself. Tanjiro sets off on a journey to find a cure for Nezuko while also training to become a powerful Slayer to protect his friends and family.

    Volume 2: It Was You

Tanjiro’s quest to find the demon that killed his family leads him to investigate the disappearances of young girls in a nearby village as he starts to follow the path of a demon slayer.

    Volume 3: Believe in Yourself

Tanjiro and Nezuko face off against two formidable demons who battle with magical weapons. Even Tamayo and Yushiro’s assistance may not be enough to best these members of the Twelve Demon Moons who serve Muzan Kibutsuji, the demon responsible for all of Tanjiro’s plights.

    Volume 4: Robust Blade

Tanjiro has a chance to learn more about the fighter with the boar-head mask after encountering a demon inside a mansion of ever-changing rooms.

    Volume 5: To Hell

Tanjiro, Zenitsu, and Inosuke face a terrifying family of spider demons on Natagumo Mountain. Other demon slayers are joining the fight, but not all of them will make it out of Natagumo Mountain alive or in one piece.

Volume 6: The Demon Slayer Corps Gathers

The Hashira, the Demon Slayer Corps’ best fighters, are not happy about Tanjiro defending his demonic sister. Muzan gathers his own army and continues his hunt for Tanjiro.

Volume 7: Trading Blows at Close Quarters

Volume 8: The Strength of the Hashira

Tanjiro, Zenitsu, and Inosuke must face the demon spirit of the train itself after battling with various demonic opponents aboard the Mugen Train.

    Volume 9: Operation: Entertainment District

Tanjiro and his pals join Tengen Uzui at an entertainment district where Tengen’s female ninja spies gather information on a demon. Tanjiro and the others disguise themselves as ladies to investigate.

    Volume 10: Human and Demon

The Hashira Tengen Uzui and his ninjas battle Daki. If they can’t handle her, how can Tanjiro and his buddies take on one of Kibutsuji’s Upper-Rank Demons on their own?

    Volume 11: A Close Fight

The fight against Gyutaro and Daki, the twin demons, is not going well. Can Tanjiro tackle two of Lord Muzan’s Twelve Kizuki alone and win?

Volume 12: The Upper Ranks Gather

While Tanjiro visits the blacksmith to fix his blade, Muzan sends out his remaining Kizuki to take revenge for his Kizuki, who are now incomplete for the first time in 100 years.

    Volume 13: Transitions

Tanjiro and his companions fend off a sudden attack of strange shape-shifting demons, Hantengu and Gyokko, in the hidden town of swordsmiths.

Volume 14: The Mu of Muichiro

Hashira Tokito, the Mist, regains his memories of the past and faces off against Gyokko. Hantengu and Gyokko attack the Demon Slayers, but Tanjiro’s sword isn’t yet ready.

Volume 15: Daybreak and First Light

Tanjiro’s concern for his light-sensitive sister distracts him from the focus he needs to combat Hantengu, and he might make the fatal error of hesitating.

    Volume 16: Indestructible

Tanjiro visits the Stone Hashira, Himejima, who seeks to prepare him to become a Hashira, a high-ranking member of the Demon Slayer Corps. Meanwhile, Muzan continues pursuing Nezuko and Ubuyashiki.

    Volume 18: Assaulted by Memories

    Volume 19: Flapping Butterfly Wings

Kanao must continue to fight Doma to avenge her family while Iguro and Kanroji slice through the shifting halls of the Infinity Castle.

Volume 20: The Path of Opening a Steadfast Heart

    Volume 21: Ancient Memories

Himejima and Sanemi beat Kokushibo and drove him to hell, but the Demon Slayer Corps paid a hefty price. Kiriya Ubuyashiki, the Demon Slayers’ new leader, struggles to recover from the defeats.

Volume 22: The Wheel of Fate

After generations of preparation, the Demon Slayer Corps has finally met their greatest foe, Muzan Kibutsuji. Tanjiro Kamado witnesses a vision of his ancestor that may hold the secret to eventually eliminating Muzan.

Volume 23: Life Shining Across the Years

Tanjiro and his fellow Demon Slayers fought through the night in an epic battle against the King of Demons, Muzan Kibutsuji. Dawn is approaching, and the centuries-long war will be over if they can hold Muzan away for a little longer.
