Wondering how to give an Audible book as a gift? This guide will tell you everything you need to know about gifting options for your favorite book lovers.

How to give an Audible book as a gift

If you have a friend or family member who enjoys reading, you know there’s nothing bookworms love more than immersing themselves in an engaging story. So, why not surprise them with a thoughtful present and gift them a well-written book?

Not everyone is a fan of carrying physical books, so giving them an audiobook with studio-quality narration is a better option. Amazon Audible is one of the leading audiobook providers in the world, with thousands of interesting titles across multiple genres.

We’ll explain how to gift audiobooks in Audible and ensure your loved one knows how much they mean to you.

Why give an audiobook as a gift?

Not only are audiobooks a fun way to unwind, but they also help you learn more about the world and expand your horizons. For example, with an Audible gift subscription, a person can access over 400,000 titles. Moreover, they’ll receive one monthly credit they can spend on an Audible book of their choice to expand their Audible library. With such an impressive collection, your loved one will never run out of intriguing content.

Benefits of an Audible gift card

An Audible gift card is the perfect gift for anyone who loves books but may not have the time to read as often as they’d like. With Audible, your loved one can listen to their favorite books while driving, exercising, cooking, or doing other activities. With over 200,000 audiobooks to choose from, your loved one is sure to find something that interests them.

Furthermore, an Audible subscription includes access to exclusive podcasts and other audio programs. Your loved one can enjoy these features and more with the Audible app, available on both iOS and Android devices.

Another benefit of an Audible gift card is that it allows your loved one to try out new genres and authors without committing to purchasing a physical book. They can easily browse through different categories and listen to samples before deciding on a book to purchase. This can help them discover new authors and genres they may not have considered before.

Additionally, an Audible subscription allows your loved one to keep their audiobooks even after their subscription ends. This means they can listen to their favorite books again and again, without having to worry about losing access to them. This feature is especially useful for those who like to revisit their favorite books or listen to them multiple times.

The two ways to gift audiobooks using Audible

If you’ve never gifted audiobooks before, you may think that doing so through Audible is complicated. Fortunately, the process is relatively straightforward, and we’ll guide you through the two ways you can surprise your favorite bookworm.

Gifting an audiobook

You can use your debit or credit card to give someone a free audiobook. Those who are already Audible users can also use their Audible credits.

We’ll breakdown the process into the following six phases:

Visit the Audible website (audible.com), or launch the Audible app and enter your credentials to sign into your Audible account. You can sign in with your Amazon account if you’re not an Audible user.

Explore the catalog

After signing in, it’s time to browse the service’s audiobook catalog.

Once you spot an intriguing title, tap the thumbnail to view the product details. If it ticks all your boxes, press the “Give as a Gift” option.

Note that for some titles, you’ll need to press the “more options” section first.

Enter the Audible gift details

After deciding which audiobook is the perfect gift, the Audible site will generate a new page. Here, you’ll see two options. You can send the book using an auto-generated email or print a gift voucher.

If your family member or friend lives in a different state or country, sending an email is more convenient. But if they live close by, they may appreciate receiving the audiobook voucher in person.

Complete the details

Navigate to the bottom of the page and fill in the form beneath the gifting options. Type the recipient’s name, your name, and a heartfelt message. Audible may ask you to enter the recipient’s email address, too.

If you’ve decided to email the gift, you should then choose the date Audible will send it. Double-check all the details, and if they’re correct, press “Continue” to move on to the final phase.

Finalize the gift

Examine the new page and review your information. If everything’s in order, choose your preferred payment method and select “Confirm Purchase.”

Confirm the order

After confirming the purchase, Audible will take you to its “Thank You” page. It will list the details of your order, and you should also get an email confirmation.

If you’ve decided to print the Audible gift card, you’ll find further instructions on this page. Most people have little difficulty folding the card.

Remember that you cannot purchase gifts with the following Audible credits:

  • Book return credits
  • Promotional and “bonus” credits
  • Credits received through gift memberships

Gifting an Audible membership

So, your loved one is an avid reader, but they still haven’t signed up for an Audible account? Then there’s no better way to express your appreciation than gifting them an Audible membership. They’ll be able to explore the Audible Plus catalog and access countless podcasts, Audible Originals, and free audiobooks.

All you need to do is follow these six steps:

Head to the Gift Center

Go to Audible’s Gift Center and ensure you’re signed in with your Amazon or Audible account.

Select a subscription

Once on the Gift Center page, you can choose from four subscription options: 12 months, six months, three months, and one month.

Decide which duration your loved one would appreciate the most, and tap “Select Gift” next to the appropriate subscription.

Complete the details

Audible will now generate the Gift Details page. Here, you can choose whether to send the subscription via an auto-generated email or print it as a gift voucher.

Choose the preferred option and complete the form at the bottom of the page. You’ll need to enter the recipient’s name, your name, and possibly the recipient’s email address.

If sending the subscription via mail, pick the date when you want your friend or family member to receive it.

Customize the gift

You could select a card to put a smile on your friend’s face if you want to personalize the gift further. Tap the drop-down box to view the available themes.

Finalize the gift

After picking a card, review the order details, and check whether you’ve entered the correct information.

When you’re ready to move on, tap “Buy Now” and choose your preferred payment method.

Press “Confirm Purchase” to head to the “Thank You” page.

Confirm the order

Audible will send you an email confirmation. If you want to print the voucher, you’ll find the printable card here.

Best of all, the recipient doesn’t have to worry about canceling their Audible gift membership. Once it expires, Audible will automatically pause it.

Requirements for gifting an Audible audiobook

If you’d like to gift a specific audiobook to someone, you can do so using the “Send this Book” feature on Audible. However, there are a few requirements to keep in mind.

First, the recipient must be an Audible member and must live in the same country as the person gifting the book. Additionally, it’s not possible to gift a book that you’ve already purchased or borrowed through Audible. Finally, the person gifting the book must have a valid payment method on file with Audible.

It’s important to note that when you gift an audiobook, the recipient will receive a credit to their Audible account, which they can use to purchase the book. They will not receive a physical copy of the audiobook or a download link. The credit will remain in their account until they use it to purchase the book or until it expires.

Another thing to keep in mind is that you can only gift audiobooks that are available for purchase on Audible. If the book is not available for purchase, you will not be able to gift it. Additionally, some audiobooks may have restrictions on gifting, such as limited availability in certain countries or regions.

Alternatives to Audible gift cards

If you’re looking for an alternative to Audible gift cards, there are a few options to consider. For example, you could give a physical audiobook on CD or cassette tape. However, keep in mind that not everyone has a CD or tape player, and these formats are becoming increasingly rare.

Another option is to give a subscription to a different audiobook service, such as Apple Books or Google Play. While these services may not have as large a selection as Audible, they may be a better option for some people depending on their device preferences or audio-file format requirements.

Alternatively, you could consider giving a gift card to a local bookstore. Many bookstores now offer audiobooks through their websites or in-store kiosks. This option not only supports a local business, but also allows the recipient to choose from a wider selection of audiobooks, including those that may not be available on Audible or other audiobook services.
