Dig, Dogs, Dig Audiobook Summary

Beginning readers will love this I Can Read adventure starring a doggy construction crew, gently adapted from James Horvath’s popular picture book of the same title.

Top dog Duke and his crew of construction-worker dogs are hard at work building a new park. They need lots of cool equipment to help them dig, haul, push, and plow–like a backhoe, dump truck, bulldozer, and grader. But what happens when the crew finds something unexpected buried deep in the ground?

Dig, Dogs, Dig is a Level One I Can Read book, which means it’s perfect for children learning to sound out words and sentences.

This is a fun lyrical book full of rhymes. The illustrations are full and definitely bound to entertain and keep a young reader occupied. The humor within is definitely giggle-worthy. I wouldn't hesitate to look for something more from James Horvath in the future as this debut has pleased me. Update: Looking forward to Build, Dogs, Build: A Tall Tail! Thanks to HC.

Go, Dog, Go meets your favorite construction book in this entertaining rhyming picture book. The dogs living situation is a bit reminiscent of a firehouse - but these dogs are ready for some construction work instead. Even the lines such as, "Run, dogs, run!" and "Dig, dogs, dig!" reminded me of Go, Dog, Go. They uncover a dinosaur bone, while building a park that eventually the whole community can enjoy. Colorful digital illustrations with plenty of full-bleed pages are vibrant and appealing. Endpages feature a lineup of the dogs, each posed with their tools.

"Dig Dogs Dig," written and illustrated by James Horvath, is an excellent book! Ask my four year old grandson about it! It's a fun story to read, the rhymes and the illustrations are cheery, the story fast-moving,and the topic holds lessons on teamwork and sharing. Also, lots of new vocabulary introduced in terms of construction equipment and duties. Illustrations clearly reinforce new vocabulary. As a former educator and as a grandma, I recommend this lively book.

If P.D. Eastman's book, Go, Dog, Go! got married to Goodnight, Goodnight, Construction Site, and they had a child, it would be named Dig, Dogs, Dig. And as wonderful as those parents are, this child would actually be smarter than it's parents and better looking too. We can't wait for the next book by James Horvath to land bedside soon!

I thought the book was great. Loved the story and the pictures. My granddaughters loved the book and enjoyed looking for the hidden surprise on each page. Can't wait for the next book in what I hope will be a long series.

My 6-year-old son loves this series! It's his favorite -- combining the things he loves most -- dogs and construction.

The crew of construction dogs works together to make a park. This book in rhyme doesn't just show dogs working, it manages to explain quite succinctly and well how each construction vehicle works (what specific jobs they are best at), and it does it all in rhyme! The illustrations are very attractive, and littles who love watching construction vehicles will adore this book. Also good for rhyming story fans and dog lovers.

This is about construction workers day except they are dogs! I think this is a fun picture book for toddlers/preschoolers to follow along with! The kids I work with are around the age of 4 and loved this book when I read it to them! Beginning readers can also look at the pictures and connect the pictures to words. If you like construction and/or dogs, I would recommend this book!

Our grandchildren ages 2-6 both boys and girls, all love this book. I think it is because James Horvath's illustrations are delightful and tell "more of the story." The story is told in fun and quick paced rhyme. It is a basic construction tale, but those are the ones my two year old loves best. With this one he laughs and laughs and points out the funny slippers, and the odd places the dogs are sleeping, and giggles over how they stretch in the morning and says "not safe" about the dog standing on the chair to get his pancake. He also knows all the dogs names. This is interesting because the names are not used in the story, they are only shown under the pictures inside the cover. He made me go back to the pictures on each page to identify all the dogs until he knew them by name. There is only one girl dog, she is pink, and her name is Roxy. He noticed that she was not on the page where all the dogs are waking up and wondered where she was. I told him she was a girl so she was sleeping in the girls dorm. After that he looked for Roxy and is sad she is not on all the pages. Of course he also has to find the playful cat Jinx on every page. We purchased this book in April and have read it over 100 times at this point. Since the kids only visit here, that means we often read it more than once in a visit.

My five year old construction fan ADORES this book! It's a pretty basic theme: a construction crew rolls out in the morning and builds something over the course of the day. But in this case, they are (anthropomorphized) dogs, and cute dogs at that. (There's also a crew cat, but it appears to be more of a pet/recurring detail.) Of course, at the end of only one day (As in Bang! Boom! Roar! A Busy Crew of Dinosaurs and Dinosaurs Dig!) the crew constructs and entire [what turns out to be] park in a single day, excavating a t-rex bone unsupervised and single-handedly laying out huge rolls of sod...But it's all in good, rhyming fun. Note, one of the dogs, named "Roxy" in the character list inside front and back cover, is pink. I have no idea whether this means Roxy is a girl; I kind of thought so but it's unclear. Other commenters point out that Roxy is one of the dogs puzzling over a Harbor-Freight-esque set of instructions for what appears to be a swingset (though Roxy is *not* the dog trying to open a crate from what is clearly marked the wrong side; nor is he/she the one making mounds of pancakes for breakfast). However, most of the other dogs' names are traditionally masculine. Will small children notice? Well, I guess the pink-lovers will...We would like more of these stories please...
