Requiem Audiobook Summary

The third and final book in Lauren Oliver’s powerful New York Times bestselling trilogy about forbidden love, revolution, and the power to choose.

Now an active member of the resistance, Lena has transformed. The nascent rebellion has ignited into an all-out revolution, and Lena is at the center of the fight.

After rescuing Julian from a death sentence, Lena and her friends fled to the Wilds. But the Wilds are no longer a safe haven. Pockets of rebellion have opened throughout the country, and the government cannot deny the existence of Invalids. Regulators infiltrate the borderlands to stamp out the rebels.

As Lena navigates the increasingly dangerous terrain of the Wilds, her best friend, Hana, lives a safe, loveless life in Portland as the fiancee of the young mayor. They live side by side in a world that divides them until, at last, their stories converge.

After Reading: I must say, this is probably my least favorite out of the three books. It's not horrible (Obviously, since I gave it five stars) but it took forever for the pace to pick up, for it to get interesting. This book is mostly about the Resistance fighting back (HOORAH!!) but they can't just barge in and fight! They must plan first! Making most of the novel planing, not fighting. And we all now that planing is that as fun as fighting...Of course it's not all planning!Since, very much like the last book, this book has alternating chapters.Except this time it's alternating between Lena and Hana. While I liked hearing about what's going on in Hana's life, it made the pace of the book slower. Not much is going on in Hana's life (actually, a lot is happening but nothing that seems to entertain me...)Now that I got all of that out of the way, let me talk about what is of most importance...THE ENDINGWe are all aware that this is the last book. And being the last book, it needs to have a good ending. While the ending did leave a few questions unanswered (view spoiler)[The main question unanswered being Alex or Julian?!?!?! (hide spoiler)]But I did like how it ended. It brought a sense that things are going to get better.(forgive me for being cliche but...)To me this is the best kind of ending. And while I am sad to see this series go...I will be very unhappy if this series continues, since I know when a book series needs to end (Cassandra Clare doesn't though. Sorry, had to get it out there) and after that ending, I know it is time for me to let this series go.Until the TV show premieres...Hopefully they won't ruin it...P.S. Forgive me if this "review made no sense Before Reading: AHHHHHHHHHH!WHY DID PANDEMONIUM HAVE TO END IN A CLIFFHANGER?!I HATE CLIFFHANGERS!It's number 1 on the list of things I hateAND TO HAVE THIS BOOK COME OUT IN 2013?AFTER THE WORLD ENDS!!THAT'S TORTURE!TORTURE!IT SHOULD BE CONSIDERED ILLEGAL!I would feel so much better if I was able to read a sneak peeklike 1 chaptermaybe 2maybe 3....Anyway...I really really really really really really want this bookreallyand am I the only one sensing a love triangle in this book?DANG IT!I wish those love triangles were never born!!!!!EDIT:OH MY HOLY FREXING DONUTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!THE COVER!!!!IT'S HERE!!!!!*screams of joy*ANOTHER EDIT:WAIT...WHAT?!!!!!Didn't the release date used to be February?!!!!!!Now it's March!!!!MARCH!!!!!!!!!I HAVE TO WAIT A MONTH LONGER!!!!! :'( ANOTHER ONE OF MY NUMEROUS EDITS:YAY!!!!THE WORLD DIDN'T END!!!!!NOW I'LL ACTUALLY GET TO READ THIS BOOK!!!!!In March...3 months from now...

When I finished Pandemonium . . . OMFG I HATE LOVE TRIANGLES, someone please tell me why they exist!!! D:< In the end when Alex came back I was just like NOOO I like Julian with Lena . . . I feel like the only one though : ( I never really liked Alex that much, I don't really know why :p. I like Julian though. & then when I really thought he died I was like Lena is finally happy again! But then Alex came back xO. She finally moves on - and she's happy!!!- and then BAM he's back NOOOOO. Now i just don't know what's going to happen to everyone. .-. I kind of wish Alex hadn't returned and then there'd be no love triangle and Julian and Lena would live happily ever after and they'd help the resistance conquer the DFA and the cure! & Lena and Julian would end up together and she'd be reunited with her mom and Raven and Tack would be together : D But noooooooo Ahhh what's going to happen?!?! I NEED THIS BOOK RIGHT NOW!!! D:< WHY do I have to wait until March!? We better not die this year!!!!!

For as much shit as the end of this book got from everyone, I thought it was pretty perfect. I didn't think it was unfair at all. Open, yes, but some easy inferences tell you everything you need to know.I got just what I wanted from my favorite characters, and I won't lie: I was pretty excited about Lena's choice in the end.Oliver's beautiful, beautiful writing never hurts, either. Lauren Oliver says, in a tweet to me:"I won't say a word! V proud of that book, though. I made some unconventional choices and I'm excited about it"AHHH! She made unconventional choices! Don't you love when authors do that and it's not just Mrs. Predictable writing a book?CANNOT WAIT FOR THIS MASTERPIECE TO BE IN MY HOUSE.

Just posted my booktalk with detailed discussion: http://youtu.be/Kgpz7kS2HpA ! Love this world, loved where it was going, but I don't feel any closure, which has left me feeling less enthused with the series as a whole.

************pandemonium spoiler alert ***************This is literally the first book I read where I'm actually conflicted by the "love triangle". Normally I'm all for the main guy who's supposed to win the girl, the obvious answer but there's no obvious answer here! I love Alex, Delirium Is one of my favorite books and I was upset for days after reading the end. But she thought he was dead, she had no way of knowing. And she didn't even mean to fall in love with Julian, you can't control who you love. Then she took him into the wilds. She changed his life forever, then BAM there comes Alex! I love both guys and literally don't know how this can end because Alex infected her and took her to the wilds and then she infected Julian. There's no going back from that. I can't wait til 2013 now :) :) :) Lauren Oliver is just too good of a writer :)

“He who jumps may fall, but he may also fly.” (Old Rating: 3 stars)Read for The Quarterly Book Club’s Series Reread Challenge 2016The Wilds was no longer safe. The cured have infiltrated the freedom of the Invalids, destroying what little they have. It meant war, and the Invalids were ready to break down walls and fight back. Requiem is the unforgettable conclusion to Lauren Oliver’s Delirium trilogy. It was heaven and earth colliding in a kiss, crumbling into each other.I don’t know what changed in me as a reader, but one thing is for sure: I’ve loved this series now more than I did before. I was an empty vessel being filled up and overflowing as I went through it.It was cleverly told in two different perspectives: Hana’s and Lena’s, a cured and an uncured.Hana’s wedding with the soon-to-be-mayor Fred Hargrove was very much anticipated by the people. But, as the days went by, Hana was starting to doubt her future husband and the life she now had. The clock was ticking to the very last second as secrets and sins of the past started resurfacing. Was something wrong with Fred, or did the procedure failed in curing Hana?Meanwhile, Lena was back in the Wilds, with her heart torn in two. She was about to get everything she wanted: the freedom to love, the freedom to choose. But it seemed like the hardest thing to do.The resistance was on the move for a big attack in Portland, and now Lena was forced to face all that she had left behind when she crossed the border. If you remember Hana, she was Lena’s best friend in Delirium. They were inseparable, but those memories were now nothing to her, as if they belonged to someone else. Hana was now living the life the cure promised: stable and perfect, but was it really what she wanted?I loved Hana’s perspective although all the things she confessed made me hate her. She was selfish, but now she wanted to rectify those mistakes even if she was not supposed to, even if she tried not to. The cure reassured every individual that there would be newness, a clean slate in them, and the past no longer mattered, but Hana could not help but unearth what was already buried.Hana was living in a bubble. She was calm, empty, and separated from everything else by the procedure. It was as if she got a clearer view of things. But Hana was as cunning as before, and every turn she made was something to look out for. Her curiosity kept me reading and devouring the pages. I wanted to see where she was going. As for Lena, this book felt like going home to an empty house, but at the same time choosing to leave it behind for a new one. She had to endure all the pain that went along with her love and all the ghosts that she tried to silence. Lena was a butterfly. Her flight gave her freedom, but she was as fragile as her wings.Lena was very conflicted in this installment and it was ironic because she was in the verge of having everything she ever wanted. Her emotions were all over the place, but I understand and would not hate her for it even if she was treating some people poorly. Inside, she was trying to do the right thing, braving it all as best as she could.Julian, was always there for her, patiently waiting. He now knew that he loved Lena and it just made things more complicated for her. She brought him with her, to a world of scavenging, promising a life of love, but now she had nothing to give him.I was filled with sadness for the Julian. I knew that he was just there, watching and waiting for the “right time”, but I knew that he was aching for Lena. He knew that something was wrong, but he dared not speak. He was such a sweetheart and all his acts of kindness made me love him more.(view spoiler)[Alex was back. (hide spoiler)] He was nothing but a ruined shell of who he was. He was angry, hurt, and devastated to (view spoiler)[find Lena in the arms of another. (hide spoiler)] This caused all that Lena was trying to build with Julian to come to a halt.(view spoiler)[Alex (hide spoiler)] made me want to throw the book a couple of times. I wanted to scream at him to just say what he had to say, without keeping anything else from Lena. He was stubborn and was causing himself and Lena so much agony, and I hated it.To be honest, I would not love Lena’s chapters immensely if they didn’t take me to an emotional ride, leaving me a wreck. It was repetitive of how the Then chapters went in Pandemonium: relocating, walking, people dying, etc. If I would choose which perspective was more interesting in this book, I would choose Hana’s.I loved that moment when Hana and Lena finally met, and Hana told her the truth. It broke my heart to find Lena so hurt, but at the same time it brought me joy that she was still able to feel the love she had for Hana even for just one moment. I think that was my favorite part. The ending, which I know disappointed a lot of readers, somehow made more sense to me now. I know that everyone wanted to know (view spoiler)[who Lena chose between Alex and Julian (hide spoiler)] and we did not get any answer, but I think the series wrapped up perfectly. Lena (view spoiler)[loved them both, although she loved Alex more, and I knew that it would be difficult for her to leave Julian. She came to love him as well, and I think it would destroy Julian if she left him. (hide spoiler)] Also, this book was not just about the romantic kind of love. It was also about the family people had and the ones they found along the way, and friendship gained and lost. It tackled all the different forms of love, whether it was gone, new, or returned. It was about every single person who held love in their hands.Anyway, if I were to decide, I think, without a doubt, that (view spoiler)[Lena would still choose Alex. Like I said before in my review on Pandemonium, Julian and Lena’s relationship was pretty impulsive in a way. I just don’t know how she would tell Julian about it. I honestly considered, too, that maybe she could just go ahead and choose them both. Some people love more than one, right? I think it’s possible, but I don’t know how Julian and Alex would take it. (hide spoiler)]This series will forever stay with me and surely, in the future, I would still recommend it.
