You can clearly tell that this book wasn’t written by L.J. Smith and there were so many plot holes but I still loved and enjoyed every single page of it.❤️

I know, I know. I'm one of the few people who could actually get into the The Vampire Diaries books after watching the series. To make it worse: I prefer book Matt Donovan over series Matt Donovan and I wish the series had been more fantasy, because I would have loved to see the Dark Dimension. Since I loved those books so much I also wanted to give The Secret Circle a try. In this case I never saw the tv-show and I really really enjoyed the first trilogy. I was therefore looking forward to the second one! This book basically picks up where the previous trilogy ended. Although the evil spirit has been fought and destroyed, the coven still has a lot to learn and ever since the coven discovered that Cassie and Adam are soulmates some friendships and relationships have changed. I love how this book is playing with all this tension, constantly keeping the teenagers on edge. They have to stick together and support each other and yet some relationships need some work.Even though this book starts a completely new storyline it's quite clear that it's in every way connected to the previous one and building upon the things we learned about Cassie and her friends. I also like how we get to see a little more of the relationship between Cassie and her mom in this installment. I won't say that it's all going well and easy, but they're clearly working on trusting each other, sharing their emotions and asking and answering questions. And just like with the first trilogy it takes a little while before the story really gets exciting, but the finale does eventually make up for a lot. And even though a lot of these teenagers do a lot of stupid stuff in this book I could at least really understand why they did so. I especially really love how Faye is slowly showing more and more of her lighter colors. She might most often act like the devil on Cassie's shoulder, but in this book we saw that deep down she also only human.I can't wait to read the next book!

Even though it is written by another writer, the book keeps its essence and I liked it as much as I liked the prior books.

** spoiler alert ** 4⭐️ The ghost writer really did a good job! I really liked this book more then the trilogy. - but the situation surrounding it definitely is not okay! The book starts with introducing a few new characters and a death that actually shocks the circle. The stakes are a lot higher and the threat of witch hunters a lot more dangerous then in the previous books. These witch hunters aren’t amateurs and aren’t afraid to drop a body or two. The circle gets into their powers more and Cassie grows up a bit. She starts to see the good in the bad and the bad in the good. The drama felt a lot more adult instead of just petty teen drama and we got to see a little bit of dark magic too. There was a reveal that actually surprised me too! These books are a little predictable but I did not see it coming. We got to see a darker side of Cassie and how she tries to navigatie her relationship with Adam, Diana and Nick (I really like Nick I hope he finds some love). And the new girl, Scarlett, really gave this book an edge.Overall I really enjoyed it and I can’t wait to see more dark magic, more of the witch hunters and the full potential of the circle!

I loved this book! I was so excited when I found out another book was in the works for The Secret Circle! I loved the series before the TV show became a hit! Revisiting the group was great and the book was so faced paced. The story line was good and the ending left me yearning for more! Can't wait to read the next one!

I feel like I need to explain about giving this 4 stars. I think if it wasn't piggybacking off my sense of nostalgia it would be more like a 3. It's not that it's bad, really. I had a good time reading it. But it had more issues than Vogue. Some were inherited, like the unclear magic system. Maybe others will be reasoned away in later books (and I do plan to read all of them.) All were annoying, but not enough to make me stop reading it like a sugar addict inhaling cake. Not that I'd know anything about that. Spoilers, ahoy!(view spoiler)[1. Continuity. Timeline seems to have jumped ahead to completely skip winter, yet everyone is picking up exactly where they left off like only a few days have passed.2. Out of character behavior. Bitchy, elitist Diana? Cassie stringing Nick along and bickering with everyone in sight? Everyone agreeing to raise Aunt Constance from the freaking dead like necromancy ain't a thang? Circle suddenly cool with doing curses? (Also, since when did they rely so heavily on magic? In the first trilogy it was mostly herbs and crystals for daily stuff, and actual magic use was sort of vague.)3. Scarlett's mom *just* died, yet she's a chipper, underage girl moving into a new town alone, paying for an expensive bed and breakfast to live in, and finding a job immediately in a small town that likely has a very tiny pool of available openings. 4. Half-sister plot was, sadly, not a surprise. It was weird that within only a few sentences everyone accepted it and the whole reveal and discussion took place. Like, less than half a Kindle page. I mean, what? Plus, raise your hand if you were surprised she was evil. No one? Yeah, me either.5. "Don't do magic! Our lives depend on hiding it!" Faye frivolously does magic twice, Cassie does magic the whole time she's robbing Faye. Then she proceeds to lose the master tools, which somehow didn't burn up even though she set her sister on fire and silver has a fairly low melting threshold. You see, this is why we can't have nice things!6. "My sister is being tortured as we speak and will probably die very soon!" Circle: Alrighty then, let's sleep on it and wait until tomorrow afternoon to find out where she is. Cassie: Is upset. Also Cassie: Agrees, then throws a fit and stomps off. Later tries to take a nap. Mopes endlessly. Waits to steal tools the next day. Doesn't actually leave to help UNTIL THE THIRD DAY!7. At the end of the first trilogy, Nick is bummed, but fine with Cassie and Adam being together. In this one, he's more upset (understandably, even though they really only dated for like ten minutes. Clearly he's more into her than he shows.) From the beginning of this book I thought their might be a sort of "soulmate loophole" and she'll end up with Nick. Author has been laying the groundwork that Cassie and Adam love each other, but they don't seem to be as compatible as they should be. Plus the silver cord stretching to Cassie, Adam, and Scarlett? Either they're all siblings (ew) or Scarlett will have a redemption arc and Adam will actually be her soulmate and Cassie will end up with Nick. I'm calling it now.8. Cassie's mom is useless. In the first three she was basically wallpaper. She was NEVER around, then she was comatose. In this book she's around more, but doesn't want to talk about things even though it could literally save her daughter's life. Then she goes to Cape Cod to hang with friends while evil, supernatural witch hunters are trying to kill Cassie and her friends, and have already killed a skilled and experienced witch? Priorities, lady -- get some! Don't get me started on her being worried her kid was dead, so she dealt with it by doing her best impression of a zombie watching TV. Because God forbid this woman do anything proactive, or even, you know, useful. And does she even work? You still have to pay for essentials like food, utilities, household items, health insurance, property taxes, car insurance and gas, etc. Cassie's mom sucks so much that I can't even remember her name. I know it was mentioned somewhere. This says a lot. (Just looked it up -- it's Alexandra. Like it even matters.)Plus, explain how she and Black John "belonged" to each other, yet she "stole" him from her exiled bestie, and this act plus the secret half-sister are all no big deal because it was all in the past. I mean, really?! 9. I guess the authorities are cool with Melanie, a 17 year-old unemancipated girl, living alone, making funeral arrangements and all that. This seems to be a trend in New Salem.10. Lastly, snatching Aunt Constance's body. What...? How? And how did they return it? Are we just going to gloss over this?! I guess so. (hide spoiler)]You'd think that after all this rabid ranting I would've given it a 1 star, but in spite of all these things I still can't wait to see where the story goes. I'm *invested* in these characters, y'all, even if they are a little cardboard-y. On to the next!

There's a lot of 1 star reviews for this book out here because it's written by a new author and people think the characters seem different and the technology evolved to more recent standards. I'll go through these three points individually here:Firstly, yes, there is a new author. My understanding is that for whatever reason Alloy Entertainment owns the rights to The Secret Circle and Vampire Diaries and fired L. J. Smith from the series she created because she wasn't going in the direction they wanted, or something to that extent. While I am angry for the author and do not want to support Alloy in their poor business practices (I bought used), I did still want more from the series after finishing the original trilogy.Second, some are saying the characters seem different than in their original incarnations in the first three books. I read the original books for the first time in middle school back in 2008, so I'm not quite old enough to be an original fan or anything but I definitely do have a long history of enjoying these books. I forgot about the series for several years and then remembered them about a month ago and bought the original three books again and reread them. They were still pretty good but not as great as I remembered them being in middle school. My main complaints about them would have been that there were too many characters for any of them to really be anymore than two-dimensional caricatures rather than fleshed out characters, and the love triangle was extremely boring and dumb. With all of that said, I think that the characters in this new book are those same caricatures created in the originals but then given more of a personality and room to evolve which does set them apart from their original incarnations, but I would describe this as natural character growth rather than poor writing. The love part is also still a bit stupid and didn't have much place to go after everything was wrapped in a neat little bow at the end of the last one, but I still argue that Cassie isn't really that interested in Adam and has more interest in Diana and Faye. She is so heavily queer coded in some parts that it's frustrating they didn't allow the story to progress in this direction in the 2010s, but that's another review entirely.Thirdly, yes, the technology has evolved to more modern standards. The characters now have cell phones and laptops which doesn't really make sense in continuity from the originals that took place in the 90s, but it does make it more accessible to teens now, so I understand why they did this. Honestly, it didn't really detract from my appreciation of the story at all. It's barely mentioned in this book at least, so it's honestly a bit easy to miss, but it's good to know beforehand that it is there as it will save you from re-reading the sentence fifty times trying to remember what year the book takes place in.All in all, I really enjoyed this continuation and feel like the original trilogy was a good introduction to the characters while this one evolves them in ways that I really enjoyed. I'd recommend to fans of the original trilogy who are okay with accepting the above three points.

The divide is the 4th book in the series. After defeating John black and Diana letting go of Adam for cassie, the books starts from there. After defeating John Black with the help of master tools and after Diana letting go of Adam for classie as Adam and Cassie both have connection that they are meant to be together even though Adam and Diana were together and were childhood sweethearts before Cassie coming into the scene. This book starts right after all this and the whole town was excited for spring and the circle members as well, considering it as new beginnings. But as soon as they come knowing about the new danger- WitchHunters the originally descended ones. In order to keep themselves safe, the circle decide to stay away from outsiders especially the newcomers. Are the newcomers are really innocent or they posses threat to the circle. Not to mention Cassie has a part of John Black's magic inside her. Will this black magic take control of her or Will Cassie be able to take control of the magic. We get to meet two new characters-Scarlett and Max. You will get to see more of these characters and what will they do and how will they impact the story.Only the first three books in the series was written by LJ Smith, the remaining 3 books was written by Aubrey Clark. Comparatively I liked Aubrey's writing style more. Here I should mention about Nick, my most favourite character from this series. He is that typical morally grey, Can even die for the girl, Grumpy to all but not to her kinda guy but he is also the guy who didn't get the girl kind too. and I am personally very much offended for this! I am okay with Cassie's choice -Adam, I like him too but its Nick, I like more! The pain, the hurt Nick went through after Cassie broke up with him and choosing Adam. The way he protects her even after all this. The way he was willing to die for her without a moment's hesitation when witch hunters were attacking them. Nick- you have my heart man! Speaking of other characters we can see more of Diana's post break up life and how that affects Cassie's and hers friendship. We also get to see some unseen traits of Faye-the bad girl, after something happened in the story which you get to know by reading the book, Overall it was a good read having plot twists, betrayals and heart breaks. The book ends with Cassie discovering her father's book of shadow in order to help the circle from Witch Hunters and saveherself from her half-sister!!! (Yeah, she hasa one!)Tell me your favourite second ML, who didn'tget the girl.

Secret Circle Book Number 4; The Divide is the 1st book in the series written by a Ghost writer and not L.J Smith. So there are many L.J Smith fans who have opted out of reading this book out of respects to the author. I however chose to read The Divide because of my love of reading and because I enjoyed the story and was curious to see how the story continued. So firstly I gave it 4 stars because it captivated me immediately and found it a bit more interesting with all the plot twists and surprising events that occur early on in this novel. There are however a lot of plot holes for example why is Cassie taken with Scarlett so easily, how could she not pick up on her true intentions, Black John was evil and Cassie was overwhelmed by his evilness and picked up on it immediately, so how could she not pick up on this same evil within Scarlett?Another plot hole is why have the Witch Hunters not marked all the witches within the circle, they were the ones responsible for burning the lighthouse, so that indicates they knew the circle frequented the Lighthouse and if so how do they not know all who are within the circle? This just does not make sense. Another point to ponder is the fact that they killed Melanie's aunt meaning they knew she was a Witch, so why then was Melanie not marked as well?It is so obvious that Max and the Principle are the Witch Hunters, too obvious and this would definitely fall under predictive writing.Even though I enjoyed reading this installment of The Secret Circle I agree with the general consensus that most of the characters have completely changed... Diana no longer comes across as Serene... not to mention Cassie's complete change in character where she had more of conscience with regards to doing the right thing, she is less whiny and weak but she is also a bit too defiant than the Cassie that L.J Smith Created.Faye is pretty much still the same, Laurel fades into the background compared to the other characters. I am pleased that Deborah is still the bad-ass she was in the prior books, I particularly admire her protectiveness of Nick. Nick too retained his character of intriguing, mysterious aloofness!!Plot holes and character failure aside, it was enjoyable reading The Divide.
