The Return: Shadow Souls - #6 The Vampire Diaries This is one of my favorite books from the Vampire Diaries serie! The previous book was terrible. My hopes were very low after Nightfall, but man what was I suprised to read this! I loved everything about it!! Stefan is locked away and Elena teams up with Damon and Bonnie! Perfect! I enjoyed Elena and Damon being together, sharing the same mission.

** spoiler alert ** his is the second book of the new series of Vampire Diaries and continues right after Nightfall. With Damon as their guide, Elena sets off to the Dark Dimension with Matt. However, half way through the journey, they have to split up to create a diversion. And Matt secretly goes back to Fells Church. To her surprise, Bonnie and Meredith turn up.They enter the Dark Dimension via one of the gates and end up in a savage world. The Dark Dimension is a world where vampire and demons roam free and humans are slave. To free Stefan, they have to look for 2 halves of a key to Stefan's cell. As disguise, the girls become Damon's slave. They pretend to "settle down" into the society of the Dark Dimension while beginning their mission. After a lot of effort, they finally manage to rescue Stefan. On the other hand, back in Fells Church, Matt joins forces with Mrs Flower to investigate the strange events happening in Fells Church and try to find out the plan of the kitsune twins who are behind that. When the gang return to Fells Church, Stefan receives a gift from the good kitsune who shared the cell with him in the Dark Dimension. However, Damon's curiosity seals his fate. When he opens the package, he is turned into human. It's a good but long read. This book explores more on the kitsune legend as the gang have to understand what kind of creatures the kitsunes are, in order to solve the riddle given by the kitsune twins which gives the location of the keys to Stefan's cell, and it was interesting to hear about the legend from the Japanese approach. We are also introduced to the new world of Dark Dimension and its inhabitants as previous books focus on Fells Church.moreover, here is further development between Elena and Damon. They put more trust on each other and get closer. They even exchange blood a few times throughout the story and this deepens their connection. This is going to give interesting dynamics to the love triangle as the story moves on. I quite like the way the author describes Damon's inner conscious as a little boy after Elena exchanges blood with him, how he buried his deepest feelings. Elena being able to leave her body and meet Stefan in her dream is also a good creation. However, I do feel like the author put too much emphasis or effort on the Dark Dimension adventure, rather than balance out on accounting what's going on in Dark Dimension and Fells Church. We only get a glimpse on what Matt is doing on the outside world. And I am not sure if I want to know every single detail of the girls getting ready for party and the design of their dresses!!I do feel a bit bored during middle of the story until the climax in the end and the pace of the story picks up again.Last, but not the least, the biggest shock comes in the end of the story when Damon becomes human again. This is such as big cliffhanger. Obviously the gift is intended for Stefan as he wants to become human again to be with Elena I guess we will find out what happens in the next book.

So I really didn't enjoy the last book...really, really didn't. It was Stefan I think, I just can't take him, he is just way too Edward for me (which unlike the majority of women around me is NOT a good thing). The lovely-love b.s. was too much, the non-verbal Elena was too much and there was not enough of Damon...ahhh Damon haha. I didn't realize this book was out, saw it on the shelf and bought it immediately even though I swore I was done w/ the series. It's that damn Damon! Well my wish came true and with sappy Stefan in prison we got to enjoy life without him and his lovely-love. I read through this book in 3 days and have to admit that I quite enjoyed myself. Sometimes I forget that these are teen books so alas, no hot Damon action but my adult mind can still go there! Also a big plus? No Matt drama or sulking!! Yes he's part of this story, but the bulk of it takes place without him. Elena gets stronger, Damon gets sentimental (for Damon) and Bonnie doesn't faint too much (another annoyance). My only complaint is the Plan A, B and C....after you read it, you'll understand and be annoyed right along with me!

If you have read the previous Vampire Diaries and have for some unknown reason not completly been swoon by the charming rogue that is Damon Salvatore, then by the end of Shadow Souls, i grantee you will be. As I turned the last page, i was left completely shocked and laughing in a goofy way. Im not going to give a spoiler but the expected twist in L.J's books, is one that you would of never imagined. From this book, I have learnt that a good book, is cunning but has sublte clues towards the twist at the end, while a great book, has a twist that will leave you breathless and with a palm shaped slap mark on your forhead from the 'durr' you expressed when you discovered the totally unforeseen twist. L.J Smith has outdone herself, she has wrote a great book.

5/5 stars. Long review ahead, be warned. Easily my favorite of the series. The dark dimension is such a fascinating place to read about. The way L.J Smith describes the place, it is like you are actually there. I love how the sun never rises, so the whole place is dusk and adds to the creepy atmosphere. Also, I love how the whole book was finding how to free Stefan from a demon prison. In order to do this, there are pieces of the key in each of the important creatures houses (demons, vampires, ect). Elena, Damon, Bonnie, Meredith have to go to balls to try to find out where to locate parts of the key. I love the way the dresses are described. Also, Elena is no longer a bitch like she was in the first two books. She proves this by actually getting whipped twice (first is to save a pregnant slave, the second is to save Stefan). Yes, there are slaves in this book and the way they are described and how they live is heartbreaking to read about (Bonnie faints when she first sees the slaves's house. It's a wooden fence with a extremely small shed as shelter). Then, she rescues a girl off the streets and invites her to stay with her and her friends at Lady Ulma's house (the slave that Elena rescued). Talk about selfless. A new character is introduced named Sage (HE is a male, not a female like the show portrays. The show portrayed everything wrong, later review). What is interesting about Sage is that he has a crush on Damon (yes, Sage is gay, anyone who has a problem with that can deal with me). He has a demon hound named Sabor and a falcon named Talon (badass pets, Sabor kills a man by cracking his neck just after ripping the jugular vein open so it squirts blood). The ending was so shocking that I had to put the book down just to contemplate what happened. Lots of Delena scenes in this book (Damon and Elena), there's a motel scene where Damon and Elena share a "moment". Then, they dance a few intimate times during a few of the balls. Overall, EVERYONE should read this book, and is a obvious reread.

Have you ever loved two people at the same time? In the book Vampire Diaries The Return: Shadow Souls by L.J. Smith, you follow Elena Gilbert’s journey to the Dark Dimensions in the search for her true love Stefan as she falls for his older brother Damon.Elena Gilbert is a hardworking teenager with a special aura. Her life is in ruins and she is determined to fix it. Her vampire love, Stefan Salvatore was whisked away to a death prison. Stefan Salvatore only wanted to become human fore Elena, but was tricked when Damon was possessed. The only person who could help her is his older brother Damon. Her and her best friends Bonnie and Meredith must get to the Dark Dimensions, find both halves of the fox key, trust Damon with their lives, and survive long enough to free Stefan.Damon Salvatore is a womanizing vampire always dressed in black. He's good at repressing things that he thinks are going to hurt him, but he can't hide the thing that hurts him the most, Elena. He loves Elena-first thing to make him care in centuries- but she loves Stefan. He wants Elena to become his 'Princess of The Night', while protecting the girls. Can Stefan survive until they can save him? Will Elena realize who her heart really belongs to? Shadow Souls was epic. It had a mix of everything; the love struggles of Elena in-between life threatening battles. You could relate to at least one aspect of each character-the bond of best friends, the anger between siblings. The dialogue was very witty, making the book very lighthearted. It was the best book in the series-so far. It was the perfect length, just long enough to be the perfect read. I suggest you read this book (after you read the beginning of the series.) As Damon would say "Just do it!" TEAM DAMON FOREVER!!!!!!!

Like the previous volume Nightfall, Shadow Souls is incredibly wacky, tangential and bizarre. However, unlike Nightfall, which frequently tried the reader's patience with its silliness, Shadow Souls is compulsively readable. The Elena/Damon romance has been brewing for a very, very long time, so the fruition here makes for a pageturner. The plotline is enjoyably quirky, as are the characters and dialogue. The next book should add more of Bonnie and Meredith -- they both deserve their own subplots. Matt gets his own subplot in Shadow Souls, and he's nowhere near as interesting and fun as these two characters are.

Well this was a really good book but somethings just made me sooo mad. Like the fact everything happened to Elena and no one else it was all about her.. Also I couldn't stand how with the galas hoe eland dress was always the simplest but the most amazing I hate that! Also I hate how they make her seem like the most beautiful thing on the whole dang world honestly I beleive Bonnie would be the prettiest if she wore some makeup are something lol.

Okay I'll admit I started these books because I'm addicted to the show. The first book was alright a bit different from the show and I almost didn't continue with the series. So glad I did! Over all they're pretty good! Can't wait for the new one to come out.
