Soon, their beliefs collided with a world beyond their understanding. The solutions they offered–taken from America’s playbook on poverty–failed to bring real answers.
“Everyone knows homelessness is about the lack of housing, jobs, and money, so why question it?” Yet, after watching the same people fall back into homelessness, the Paynes had no choice. They had to find answers.
To their amazement, the answers God provided came through unlikely people.
“What’s this love of Jesus you’re talking about? I have been loved in every position known to man.”
Now, two decades later … after hundreds of stories and thousands of hours working on the frontlines of homelessness, the Paynes claim: The war on poverty in America has been won.
Unlocking a Broken World uncovers a world of mystery. With unforgettable people and inspiring stories, the Paynes challenge you to rethink how you love people and do ministry. One thing is for sure: you will never look at “the least of these” in the same way.

Discover Jesus’ goals of togetherness, oneness, and unity in an increasingly divided world. When you learn to confront the areas in your heart that might not love as Jesus loved, you can help build a flourishing, Christ-like culture.
Throughout his ministry, Jesus specifically bridged the gap with the ostracized, outcast, and overlooked. He told his followers to do the same. The gospel message is for everyone‚Äîand our mission as believers is to make disciples of Jesus, not duplicates of ourselves. This requires us to live and love beyond our preferences, to build relationships with those who are different from us, and to go beyond the boundaries of unspoken rules and invisible lines. It’s time to break the strongholds of division that have been passed down from generation to generation.
In Love Outside the Lines, Jimmy Rollins will
- expand the gospel message of Christ beyond the lines of cultural norms,
- show us how to follow in Jesus’ footsteps by moving away from racial stereotypes and moving toward things that unite us,
- empower a culture of people willing to be part of the conversation on racial reconciliation,
- help us embrace the kingdom truth that we are better together than we are divided, and
- exemplify a life of dynamic diversity at church, work, and home.

Join Jimmy on a powerful journey to rediscover the discipleship of diversity that leads to unity. Together, we will confront our comfort-zone barriers—both known and unknown—and take a detour to pursue the kind of diverse relationships and honest dialog that build a flourishing Christ culture.

An honest look at grief and fears, faith and hope. Combining personal narrative, sound theology, and beautiful writing, this is a book for anyone who has loved and lost.
On November 3, 2020, Tim and Aileen Challies received the shocking news that their son Nick had died. A twenty-year-old student at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky, he had been participating in a school activity with his fiancee, sister, and friends, when he fell unconscious and collapsed to the ground.
Neither students nor a passing doctor nor paramedics were able to revive him. His parents received the news at their home in Toronto and immediately departed for Louisville to be together as a family. While on the plane, Tim, an author and blogger, began to process his loss through writing. In Seasons of Sorrow, Tim shares real-time reflections from the first year of grief–through the seasons from fall to summer–introducing readers to what he describes as the “ministry of sorrow.”
Seasons of Sorrow will benefit both those that are working through sorrow or those comforting others:

But manyBehind many of the challenges facing us today is a failure of leadership. This is not a new problem. Yearning for wise guidance and effective authority is a perennial human longing. We need leaders who are credible, competent and committed. But many leaders seem to be caught up, even consumed, with their own power and agendas. Some see the leadership crisis as an intellectual problem, believing we lack a clear theory of leadership. Others view the breakdown of leadership as a result of increasing deficiency in moral character.
Most leadership books today revolve around the concepts of motivation, inspiration, empowerment, and teamwork. Helpful as these themes might be, they miss something more fundamental. Leadership needs a theological foundation, that will be useful for shaping the undergirding principles, and evaluating current leadership theories and practices. We need to view leadership from the vantage point of God.
In Rooted Leadership, John E. Johnson explores how Christian theology provides an overarching leadership framework and applies that theory to leadership practices. Spiritual reflection, guided by scripture, points us to the very center of leadership–God–and the purpose of leadership–that we might display his glory. All the best forms of leading take their cues from who God is, his purposes, and his ways of working with people that he has progressively revealed.
Building on three decades of research, study, and experience as a global leader, Johnson surveys the landscape of contemporary leadership theory, unpacks the assumptions and beliefs that underly current trends, and responds by offering a robust approach to leadership, founded on the character, work, and words of God.

What if we modeled our churches after what Jesus intended His church to look like? What if our hope for our ministries rested not on human wisdom but on God’s power?
Over the past few years, we’ve all seen how quickly circumstances can change, and many of us have experienced firsthand how church growth trends and popular models fail us. Churches across the country are struggling, and many pastors are deeply discouraged. We work hard and with great sincerity, but our efforts don’t seem to be helping our churches flourish.
Jim Cymbala–New York Times best-selling author and long-time pastor of The Brooklyn Tabernacle–has been watching the pressing need for back-to-the-basics spiritual leadership among Christians, and he’s seen so many churches come to defeat because so many leaders forget this one truth: Your church is not your church. It’s Christ’s church. In order for his church to flourish, we have to minister his way.
With this posture of humility and a refreshing return to the model of Paul’s church leadership and philosophy of preaching shown in the book of Acts, Cymbala has written an urgent message for all those in ministry that:
- Identifies the many pitfalls that church leaders can fall into.
- Reasserts the need for total confidence in the Gospel.
- Preaches complete dependence on the Holy Spirit, while showing you how to see the new things that the Spirit can do through your work.
- Offers practical guidance on inevitable leadership challenges, such as money, division, and priorities.
With honesty and clarity, Jim Cymbala has written Fan the Flame to ministers, church leaders, staff members, and any Christians serious about God’s church. He’s written this book in order to help you face these difficult times in the name of the Lord…
He’s written so that our prayer, as God’s people with God’s mission, might be: Lord, show us how to do your work so that in the midst of dark times we can still see you fan the flames of your power and Spirit. Lord, use us to that end. Amen.

Men in America have not been feminized at all…they have been emasculated. Men don’t feel a need to be more like women…they just have lost their identity as men.”
This book begins with the true story told by a washed up minister whom God forgave, healed, restored, and reenlisted in his service. The real story lies, however, with a few men who, discontented with the detachment of men in their church and inspired by the Holy Spirit, discovered a pathway to reengagement as God’s man in this hour … or maybe real engagement for the very first time.
Welcome to Warrior Boot Camp! With this audiobook, listeners will take a journey through a season of breaking down and shredding of the things of this world that have insidiously crept like tendrils into our hearts and minds. They will then explore the practical military view, including strategies and tactics, that is pervasive throughout scripture, regarding our calling to engage and win the spiritual war against our three foes: the world system, the carnal human nature, and the demonic spiritual realm led by Satan.
The second half of the book builds listeners up with the understanding of how to dress for success in the Kingdom by “putting on” and effectively fighting in God’s armor (Ephesians 6). Warriors must be expert in weaponry and the invisible war of the Spirit is not the exception but the rule.
The real hero of this warrior saga is Gideon. Listeners will get into his shoes as he hides in the wine press … and then into his head and, finally, his heart as he is transformed from fearful farmer to mighty warrior. Together we will explore the common threads of manhood as lived out by the greatest warrior in Israel’s history.
In these pages the truths of walking in the sustainable freedom all men yearn for are unlocked. Join Gideon as he becomes the man God dreamed when He made him … and receive, with him, God’s new name for you: Mighty Warrior!

Jesus knew the Bible better than anyone, yet he claimed that he had to hear his Father’s voice in order to fulfill God’s purposes for his life. His enemies, the religious elite, had supreme confidence in their knowledge of Scripture, yet Jesus said that none of them had ever heard the voice of the Father.
When Jack Deere turned seventeen, he did not know God or a single verse of Scripture. Then, one night a friend quoted John 10:28 to him, and he believed in Jesus. At twenty-seven, he became a professor of Old Testament Exegesis and Semitic Languages at Dallas Theological Seminary where he taught his students to avoid the trap of believing that God still spoke outside the pages of the Bible. He believed it was all real–just as the authors of the Old and New Testaments had said it happened–but it no longer happened today. People who believed God had spoken to them personally were emotionally unstable or too lazy to read the Bible.
After a trusted friend shared he believed God still spoke today, Jack began a thorough study of every instance of God speaking supernaturally to someone in the New Testament. He saw how they didn’t just hear the voice of God; they were dependent on the voice of God to fulfill the highest purpose for their lives. Jack became convinced that we should expect God to speak outside the Scriptures, but he didn’t have a clue how to hear his voice.
This is the story of how Jack Deere learned to hear the voice of God and, in doing so, became a friend of Jesus.
Now a modern classic, Jack wrote Surprised by the Voice of God over twenty-five years ago. Based on that first book, Why I Am Still Surprised by the Voice of God has been entirely rewritten and includes additional thoughts and insights from a lifetime of hearing God speak. Deere guides you through the Bible to discover the variety of creative, deeply personal ways God still communicates with us today. You’ll learn how God speaks with people apart from the Bible, though never in contradiction to it. Deere first describes the ways God revealed his thoughts to the men and women of the Bible, and then shares why God continues to speak to us today using the same methods. He provides counsel and guidance for knowing how to accurately hear God speak through prophecies, dreams, visions, and other forms of divine communication. With candor, sensitivity, and a profound understanding of Scripture, Deere identifies our hindrances to hearing the voice of God and calls us to a more intimate relationship with God. Filled with fascinating stories and personal accounts, Why I Am Still Surprised by the Voice of God is for all who want to walk in friendship with God.

In these gripping stories of Christ’s presence straight from the underground church, Pastor Tom Doyle and his wife, JoAnn, show you how women in Saudi Arabia, Syria, and Iran are leading their communities to faith in Jesus‚Äîand how you can too!
Despite enormous risks to themselves and their families, former Muslim women are now influencing their husbands and their children and bringing others to faith in Jesus Christ. No matter where they live, these women are the God-ordained spiritual gatekeepers of their families. Even though the level of oppression that women face under Islam is unfathomable to many in non-Muslim nations, these brave women stop at nothing to share their faith.
The Doyles believe that women are a major reason why more Muslims than ever are coming to faith in Christ. Over the years they have discovered that once God sets a Muslim woman free, she becomes an unstoppable force for God. Women Who Risk takes readers into Muslim homes in Saudi Arabia, Syria, Iran, and other hot spots to see the power of Christ at work. This incredible book contains:
- Inspirational stories straight out of the underground church—stories you don’t get on the news
- Examples of the miraculous works of God happening in the Muslim world
- The experiences of pastors who have worked for the past twenty-five years in the Middle East
- A clear call to action sounding the alarm to the body of Christ
- Motivation for all Christians to boldly share their faith with family and friends
The stories of these women are both breathtaking and heart-rending. Living on the edge, these women spread the gospel without fear, and the victory of the gospel is thrilling for all to see. If you‚Äôre wondering if God still performs miracles or are afraid your life can’t make an impact, then this is the book for you.

How can we cultivate courage when fear overshadows our lives? How do we hear the Voice of Love when hate and harm shout loud? This book offers an honest path to finding that there is still a Good Shepherd who is always following you. Braiding contemplative storytelling, theological reflection, and practical neuroscience, Ramsey reveals a route into connection and joy that begins right where you are.

Christ never actually told us how to “do church.” Yes, he had a lot to say about the church, but what he did say was mostly unrelated to stylistic issues or contextual trends. He never spoke about its leadership hierarchies or the pros and cons of denominational fellowships or the types of music. And yet, much of our time and energy as leaders and shepherds is consumed by chasing after tips, tricks, and secrets to “grow” churches.
While we’ve tended to focus on church growth through strategies, programs, and metric-based insights, Christ always focused on the heart and the values of the Father, the values that actually change lives and increase the spiritual health of his people.
By digging deeply into three important parables:
- The Parable of the Two Sons
- The Parable of the Sower
- The Parable of the Talents
Parable Church weaves together personal narratives, unique cultural observations, and compellingly fresh biblical insights to paint a picture of something unimaginably greater than what most people think of when they think of Jesus’ Church.
Although Jesus never gave us directions for church, he did, through his parables, reveal what we should experience in our communities together–he revealed the culture of his kingdom.

With life lessons she’s learned and new insights from the story of Eve, Sarah Jakes Roberts shows you how past disappointments, struggles, and even mistakes can be used today to help you become the woman God intended.
Who would imagine being friends with Eve—the woman who’s been held responsible for the fall of humanity (and cramps) for thousands of years? Certainly not Sarah Jakes Roberts. That is, not until Sarah discovered she is more like Eve than she cares to admit.
Everyone faces trials, and everyone will mess up. But failure should not be the focus. Your focus should not be on who you were but rather the pursuit of who you can become. In Woman Evolve, Sarah helps you understand that your purpose in life does not change; it evolves.
Making her mistake in the Garden of Eden, Eve became the first woman to deal with rebuilding her life in the aftermath of her past. Eve knew better, but she didn’t do better. With scriptural lessons, Eve as the framework, and Sarah as your guide you will discover and work through:
- Past issues and insecurities that haunt you
- Seeing yourself as God sees you and trusting Him with who you really are
- How to come out of darkness and pursue a real relationship with God
- Why it’s important to truly care for yourself
- Setting in motion the beautiful seed that God planted in you
Your fears and insecurities may have changed how you viewed God, others, and yourself, but in Woman Evolve, you can break through and use past mistakes to revolutionize your life. Like Eve, you don’t have to live your future defined by your past.

Yet the conversation often gets so ugly, even among the faithful who claim unity in Jesus. Why is that the case? Why does it matter? Can things get better, or are we permanently divided?
In this honest and hopeful book, pastor Isaac Adams doesn’t just show you how to have the race conversation, he begins it for you. By offering a fictional, racially charged tragedy in order to understand varying perspectives and responses, he examines what is at stake if we ignore this conversation, and why there’s just as much at stake in how we have that discussion, especially across color lines–that is, with people of another ethnicity. This unique approach offers insight into how to listen to one another well and seek unity in Christ. Looking to God’s Word, Christians can find wisdom to speak gracefully and truthfully about racism for the glory of God, the good of their neighbors, and the building up of the church.
Some feel that the time for talking is over, and that we’ve heard all this before. But given how polarized American society is becoming–its churches not exempt–fresh attention on the dysfunctional communication between ethnicities is more than warranted. Adams offers an invitation to faithfully combat the racism so many of us say we hate and maintain the unity so many of us say we want. Together we can learn to speak in such a way that we show a divided world a different world.
Talking About Race points to the starting line, not the finish line, when it comes to following Jesus amid race relations. It’s high time to begin running.

Upon becoming Christians, new believers often end up paralyzed. They become overwhelmed trying to master complicated doctrines, frustrated by a large list of rules for policing their lives, and bewildered by a new (and strange) vocabulary. Even worse, there are few books offering simple and clear advice to guide a Christian’s first spiritual steps that are written in common, contemporary language. Until now.
In How to Follow Jesus, Craig Springer, executive director of Alpha USA, one of America’s most effective evangelism movements, explodes numerous myths surrounding the Christian faith that create unnecessary obstacles to growth, including: illustrating that sin and temptation are not the greatest threat to a flourishing faith, forgiveness means going through rather than around our feelings, and how disappointment in the church may be the essential step in growing a foundation for life-changing community. Sharing personal stories from his own journey to a mature faith, Springer sets listeners at ease and offers them practical, easy-to-implement advice for following Jesus. Destined to become a timeless classic, How to Follow Jesus is a must for new and returning Christians.

In this moving memoir, Levi shares the power of hope in a world often visited by pain, suffering, and loss, urging you to view life as an adventure and encourages you to make an eternal impact.
More a manifesto for high-octane living than a manual for grieving, Through the Eyes of a Lion will help you turn your journey into a “roar story” by guiding you to:
- Let God turn your pain into a microphone
- Look past what you can see with the naked eye
- Understand how a good God can allow bad things
- Survive Saturday—the space between promise and fulfillment
Levi has walked through the intense, raw periods that come with grieving. Whether you’re currently facing adversity or want to prepare yourself for inevitable hardship, it’s time to look at the adventure of your life through Jesus’ eyes‚Äîthe eyes of a Lion.

Although news of Christians being killed overseas hits major media outlets from time to time, the news quickly fades away while our fellow believers continue to suffer. Johnnie Moore, as he has done before, wants to awaken the church and American politicians to the daily horrors happening to Christians, focusing this time on Africa.
While the world has been fixated on jihadist threats in the Middle East, terrorists from Nigeria to Kenya have had free reign to massacre on a scale far beyond that of the terrorists in Iraq and Syria. Whole villages have been razed, mothers and children have been grotesquely killed, and an unabashed effort at ethnic cleansing has been embarked upon with unrelenting resolve. Their intention is to rid Africa of its Christians, either by forced conversion to Islam or by destruction and murder.
Moore is writing this book with Rabbi Abraham Cooper, an Orthodox Jew, who is a regular contributor to FOX News and is the associate dean and director of Global Social Action Agenda for the Simon Wiesenthal Center, a leading Jewish human rights organization with more than 400,000 family members. With their many connections in politics and media, as well as their respective faith communities, Moore and Rabbi Cooper will be able to reach a wide audience with this message.
