Somebody’s Gotta Say It Audiobook Summary

Think you’ve got it all figured out? Think again.

Neal Boortz has been edifying, infuriating, and entertaining talk radio audiences for more than three decades with his blend of straight talk and twisted humor. In Somebody’s Gotta Say It, Boortz warms up for the coming political season with a preemptive strike in the War on the Individual: “The Democrats’ theme for 2008 will be ‘The Common Good.’ I can’t speak for you, but I am an individual. Government exists to protect my rights, not to order my life. And I damn sure don’t exist to serve government.” He takes on liberal catchphrases like giving back (“Nobody actually earns anything anymore. Why do liberals think this way? Because they find it impossible to acknowledge that people work for money”), our rampant civic idiocy (“We are not a democracy. Never were. Weren’t supposed to be. And we shouldn’t be”), and Big Brother (“We have smoke-free workplaces. We have drug-free school zones. I say let’s start establishing government-free oases, where we can be free to leave our seat belts unbuckled, and peel the labels off anything we choose”). And somehow, along the way, he finds room for pop quizzes and an answer, once and for all, to the eternal question, “Neal, why don’t you run for president?”–in a chapter called “No Way in Hell.”

Full of irresistible wisecracks and irrefutable libertarian wisdom, Somebody’s Gotta Say It is one man’s response to America at a time when the government overreaches, the people underperform–and the truth hurts.

Boortz doesn't hold back in this book detailing problems with big government and political correctness. His profound distrust of politicians and merciless hammering of left-wing ideology is refreshing and vindicating. Much like his radio show, he'll make you laugh out loud one minute and tremble with rage the next. Boortz explains (in a very clear and convincing manner) his views of what is wrong with America today and what can be done to remedy the problems. His arguments make a lot of sense and you'll be hard pressed to find many flaws in them. Ideas that might at first sound a bit crazy (not everyone should be allowed to vote) start to gain credibility as he makes his case. He does make it a point to press a lot of different people's buttons, so its rather unlikely that you'll agree with every single thing he says, but that's a good thing. All in all, he does a wonderful job of exposing some ridiculous and maddening fruits of a society that has become more concerned with security than freedom. His expose on teacher's unions is particularly enlightening. If you hold similar beliefs as Boortz (as do I) you'll love this book, but if you don't like the thought of occasionally being insulted or can't stand a mocking attitude towards "progressive" policy, you should stay away. If you're a level headed person who allows yourself to think about the issues and enjoys a little political debate every now and then, this book is a must read.

Boortz uses wit, wisdom, an overarching brashness to extol his libertarian views upon his country. I love his voice throughout the book and offers a unique standpoint on things like European relations, drug law, and several other social and economic problems in a well thought out and unapologetic manner. Loved this book.

Nationally syndicated radio talk show host Neal Boortz is here to stir up one last batch of puddin' before retiring. Boortz's conversational style and descents into political incorrectness entertain as well as infuriate within the span of a few sentences and is reminiscent of that one uncle that we all have--the one that so often gets mocked or mentioned with derision when having to confront at holiday gatherings. Personally, I enjoy the challenges that Boortz brings in his characteristic tone--there is a reason he is hated by conservative and liberal alike--and he ends his illustrious career on a high note. In this tome--equal parts political punditry and memoir--Boortz pulls no punches, explains the subtleties of his often complex political positions, and explains how he managed to get away with throwing cats out of airplanes. No matter which side of the political spectrum you sit on, Boortz is always a fun listen or read. There's always a surprise waiting somewhere in the middle of a Boortz rant, and you're guaranteed to be insulted!

I’ve read this book several times before (and it actually influenced quite a bit of my early politics), but decided to reread it for the first time in at least half a decade to refresh my memory on certain topics discussed within. I don’t agree with all of Boortz’s views and conclusions, but I can’t deny they’re mostly well thought out and entertaining in presentation. His penchant for holding nothing back is also quite welcome.

Off the hook; the truth comes out! But....... WARNING! If you are a Democrat or a communist (same thing) or a public school teacher, or a union member or someone who thinks the guvment should provide you with everything, DO NOT READ THIS BOOK! Your feelings will be hurt! I may post a FB video about this. Look me up and cuss me out! I don't care.

In this book, the author, a conservative radio talk-show host in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, puts forth a lot of ideas about how politicians, and certain unions, have really messed up the United States, and how he's fix it. Amusing, shocking, and infuriating by turns.

I adore a book that pisses me off in one chapter, revolutionizes my beliefs in a second, and challenges my perceptions in a third. So was the case for Neal Boortz's Somebody's Gotta Say It. Rarely does a book leave me so entertained while simultaneously mixed with an array of emotions. I laughed, I agreed, I thought, I fumed. Additionally, I truly applaud a writer, radio talk show host or otherwise, who can provide new insights into a particular view which is contrary to my initial perspective, thus allowing me either to maintain my views or change them completely. Flag burning, the war on drugs, DNR orders, abortions - all ideas for which I believe should be left to the individual and not government. Boortz's arguments for such were inline with my preexisting beliefs. While this book was contrary to my opinions on smoking, the war in the Middle East, and the Bush administration (and in no way diminished or even challenged said beliefs), there were topics in which Boortz's profound, logically supporting arguments swayed me. Some such topics were about prayer/God in schools, the pledge of allegiance, voting "rights", and the lack of need for the department of education or the UN.Put simply, this book receives my five star ranking not because it lists topics I all-out agree/agreed with (before and/or after its reading), but because it challenged me to think! And that, frankly, is what every good book should endeavor to do.

Boortz is not always right, but he is always entertaining. The talk show host wrote this book about the things that, somebody just had to say.The book is clever, often funny, and often infuriating as well. While many agree with Boortz's views, this book is not to be enjoyed not because of the views of the author but because of the fresh way that he shares those views.Chances are you will agree with him, then turn around and yell at him (few books incite this kind of reaction from me) and then calm down as you are giggling histarically moments later.

Very entertaining, and at times challenging, conservative talk-show-host Boortz lays out his opinions on a number of topics. Politics, current affairs, society, sports, music - it's all there. The book was published several years ago, but Boortz' comments are still relevant today - he saw the way some things were headed, and some things have not changed enough yet for his criticisms to be obsolete. Some things I agreed with, some things I laughed about, and some things rubbed me the wrong way. He did his job!

Okay, Wow. I have a mouthful about this book.First of all, it is moderately offensive. Secondly, it is very eye-opening, and politically horizon-broadening.Tons of very interesting points made with excellent arguments. Many unfortunate points made with a lack of moral intelligence.I'm rereading it immediately to decide what to research further first.Definitely worth the money.

I was already a fan of Neal Boortz before I read this book and was sympathetic to many of his views. That being said, I liked this book much better than his radio show because he actually gives a thourough explaination what he believes and why. This is far from an intellectual book, but for anyone with an interest in current events and politics it might be worthwhile. It's sort of a libertarian manifesto that's not too heavy.

Neal did a great job with this one. It is difficult to get the point across in print similarly to how it is performed on the radio, but he knocked it out if the park. I read this one a couple years ago, an while I differ slightly on defense and how our tax structure should look, the book is a masterpiece. Common sense is the underlying theme, which is a topic I'm quite familiar with.

My Dad bought this book at Dollar Tree, so I'll check it out. There's a reason that this guy has had a longer life than most talk radio hosts. His book is an easy read, because it is written like an on air conversation. Being trained as a lawyer he can present his case well. Not that I agree with everything he says, though.

Well "Somebody's Gotta say it" and Neal did. I have a love/hate relationship with Neal Boortz and most Libertarian philosophies but one thing that you can say about Neal Boortz he is entertaining even if you are yelling at your radio. I listened to the audio book and I recommend it because hearing the author read just makes it better.

Engaging and thought provoking. I never heard of him before this. He got me to ask questions of myself in such a way that allowed me to look at the man in the glass. Some in-sights into my personal beliefs on our future as a country and the loss of our freedom in exchange for the illusion of security.

I picked this book up while in Boston. Being in the midst of grand educational institutions, I felt that I needed to go past the fiction section and grab a book that would force me to formulate my own opinions. Though I don't agree always agree with Boortz, I appreciate his explanations and criticisms.

Boortz riffs on all aspects of American society from his decidedly right-of-center perspective...thoughtful, concise read...I may not agree 100%, but he does nail some pretty "sacred cows"...published in 2006 it certainly is prescient as to the agenda following the 2008 elections...worth the time!!!
