If I Should Die Audiobook Summary

If I Should Die delivers a stunning, deeply satisfying conclusion to the international bestselling Die for Me series by Amy Plum. VOYA raved, “There is plenty of romance, danger, and unpredictable turns against a backdrop of Paris. Those looking for something beyond the Twilight series will enjoy these fast reads about immortals.”

Kate is devastated. Her boyfriend, Vincent, is a revenant who has waited lifetimes to find her. But once he did their future together was shattered almost immediately. They were betrayed by a trusted ally who killed Vincent and destroyed his body so that he could not be reanimated. Now Vincent is doomed to roam the earth as a spirit. But Kate isn’t willing to accept life without her true love. She’ll risk anything to save him, even as their friend-turned-enemy begins to wage a war to rule over France’s immortals.

Amy Plum created an intricate, original mythology for this young adult paranormal series. The books, set in the City of Lights, introduce readers to revenants, undead beings who must sacrifice themselves again and again to save the lives of strangers.

This paperback edition also includes a never-before-seen epilogue, a Q&A with the author, the official If I Should Die playlist, discussion questions, a preview of Amy Plum’s next novel, and more!

As someone who’s been a pretty big fan of this series from the day Die for Me came out, I had very mixed feelings about this final installment. I’ve spent a lot of time wondering about Kate and Vincent’s fate, and even after a whole year of living with that awful cliffhanger in mind, a part of me was reluctant to have it resolved and let them go – not because I doubted their happily ever after, but because they are so very dear to me. Although things turned out exactly as I thought they would in the end, there were a few surprises along the way. The story took some pretty unexpected twists and turns and several secondary characters like Kate’s Papy Mercier were given a more important role in the central part of the story. The middle is almost always my least favorite part of a story, but Plum used her excellent sense of pacing and a very interesting ancient ritual to make this middle part riveting. My only disappointment was the entire situation with Jules. When the intensity of his feelings was brought to light in Die for Her, a Harper Impulse novella, I assumed it would somehow become essential to the story. I can’t say I was looking forward to it since the whole thing promised a world of angst, but I didn’t want it to be neatly swept under the rug either, which is exactly what happened in the end. I dislike storylines that lead absolutely nowhere, and I felt that this one accomplished nothing at all. Aside from that little setback, If I Should Die gave me everything I’d hoped for. The focus wasn’t on Kate and Vincent alone, but on all the revenants, and as Amy carefully announced on her Facebook page, not everyone got their happily ever after. Some stories ended gloriously, and some brought me to tears. The final battle of good and evil went down in a very Harry Potter-like fashion, with the Champion (who shall not be named) and the leader of the numa (who shall not be named) fighting surrounded by both their armies. After all the troubles the numa have caused, seeing the bardia united in their effort to conquer evil brought tears to my eyes. It was a very intense scene with a lot of things happening at once – I was shocked when I realized it all happened in no more than 15 pages. There aren’t many trilogies of the paranormal romance-ish variety I really enjoy, but my whole heart was invested in this one from start to finish, and a huge part of me hates that it’s over, but I am happy with how it all turned out.

*REREAD Jan 2020I would say this was a delightful end to this series. When I first started rereading the series this month I thought it was boring and didn’t think that it was up to all the hype that I originally gave it a few years ago. But, as I read each book I would say the story got even more better in the writing got better as well. So when I say that this is a good ending to this book it is actually true. With this third book in particular I thought the first part of the book dragged on a little bit at the beginning. It dragged on and it was actually very predictable as well. Since it’s been a few years of me reading it I didn’t remember some of the outcomes of the book, but even me rereading it I realized what the outcomes were just because of the writing style. Very predictable plot at times. In the second part of the book it was so much better than the first. It had a pace to it that was quick but it was effective. I would definitely say this book in particular had more depth in the book than the other two, and this is just my opinion on the matter.Overall this was a great book and series. If I could recommend this book I would but is it one of the best out there? Definitely not. I would read this if I want to pass time but I wouldn’t re-read this just because it was the best book out there. I will get this book of 4.0 star rating and I would give this series an overall 3.5 star rating.*REREAD Jan 2020*

If Vincent isn't alive I don't think I'll be able to make it through life. It is completely unfair to make you fall THAT in love with him and then to just tear him away. The least you could have done is give him some kind of fault so that his death wasn't so completely unfair.

*****SPOILERS AHEAD*****4.5 Champion stars!Holy hell! That was one unbelievable conclusion to such a unique and unforgettable trilogy! I absolutely loved this book! Though there were some things that bothered me that happened and a few things I wished would have happened that didn't. But overall it wasn't enough to keep me from almost rating it a full 5 stars. Wait, I mean I would've given it 5 complete top-notched stars...except for a few things:I wanted more Vincent-Kate romance. I mean the end....come on you two, you could have gotten outta your clothes and got it on after all the shit you just went through. There was the perfect time, not to mention, place. I guess I should consider this is YA and not NA. But dammit, I can't help myself. I was waiting. Haha okay seriously, so that's a stupid complaint. Or I just read too many sexy novels. Sigh. Oh Vincent, I love you. "Mon ange."Jules. Okay I get you're in love with Kate. And believe me, I hurt for you, I do. But you're an ass. Seriously? First you abandon your kin at the worst possible time. And then you flee at the first chance you get? Not. Cool. I'm really sorry that Vincent stole your love, but I'm so disappointed in you. He was meant for Kate all along and you just to get over it.Jean-Baptiste. God, I'm so sorry for your fate. I really admire your sacrifice. You were amazing and I cried for you. Really I cried for Gaspard. How horrible. I can't image his loss and pain. Thanks for being such awesome, loyal friends and protectors to Kate. Every book you guys made me love you more. The ending was awesome. But. I wish there'd been more. I wanted to see more with Charlotte and Ambrose. I'm so excited for them now and I feel I didn't get enough. Also what about with Georgia and Arthur? I didn't get enough with them. I didn't get enough with Kate and her grandparents. What did they think now with the resolution? With the fate she was dealt?! I wanted an epilogue. Or something that lead me to all their futures. Again. I just wanted more with Kate and Vincent. I was so happy with how things worked out. Sucks that they lost Jules because he couldn't be around them. For God's sake, he's been Vin's best friend for decades and now he can't put his jealousy aside?! Okay sorry, I'm being bitchy. I'm just upset with him. Maybe it'll pass. Maybe not.Overall, this is a fantastic series and I'm so happy I read them. I'll re-visit this group in the future for my revenant fix. Or maybe just my Vincent-fix.Oh and I gotta say, Kate is my all-time favorite heroine. She's so fierce and loyal and brave and just all around bad ass!!! I never got mad at her. I never wanted to strangle her. I wanted to actually be her. Or be her best friend. The shit she went through was pretty astronomical. The obstacles she faced were scary and dangerous and she never complained or thought twice. All she cared about was saving those she loved and nothing else mattered, even when her life was in danger. Each book she showed she was more fearless, and determined. More heroines should strive to be like her. Or even half of her. I can't wait to see what else Amy Plum has up her sleeve. I know it'll be amazing, regardless. And I can't wait! I recommend to all PNR fans. You won't regret it!
