Dreamfall Audiobook Summary

“Remarkable, riveting, disorienting and dark.” –Madeleine Roux, New York Times bestselling author of the Asylum series

A Nightmare on Elm Street meets Inception in this gripping psychological thriller from international bestselling author Amy Plum. Seven teenagers who suffer from debilitating insomnia agree to take part in an experimental new procedure to cure it because they think it can’t get any worse. But they couldn’t be more wrong.

When the lab equipment malfunctions, the patients are plunged into a terrifying dreamworld where their worst nightmares have come to life–and they have no memory of how they got there. The Girl Murdered by Her TBR

October 17, 2017

5 mind blowing stars!!!! This book was a total mindfuck!!!From the beginning till the end, it will make you guess who is who and what is what...There are so many things I loved about this book! Like really loved!!!1. The plot because its so freaking awesome!!!2. The different psychological illnesses and conditions used by the author to make the different characters' personality. 3. How the author combined realism and fantasy. Trust me only few can managed to create a novel and this book managed to combine the two and ends up to being great4. The freaking plot twist people! It was very unexpected and jaw dropping! 5. Its creepy, weird and surrealistic. But sooo sooo good!!!I honestly adored this book. It was very informative, imaginative and just... brilliant. Honestly, I'm great in guessing about what's gonna happen next or what plot twist will happen. But this book... I don't really know what will happen. I didn't have a single clue about what will happen in every chapter, its like I'm totally blindsided; and that people, is the reason I absolutely loved this book!Every scene will take you by surprise, it will make you guess what will happen next then once you've think of a possible explanation, it will shock you because it'll turn out to be wrong and you'll realize that there is more than meets the eye. OMG!!!Reading this thrilled, shocked, intrigued, and left me wondering what the fuck is going to happen next. It was a cliffhanger but it still worth the wait... For the readers who loves horror, mystery, psychological, and twisted books, this one is for you... TRUST ME!!!!!

You can find the full review and all the fancy and/or randomness that accompanies it at It Starts at Midnight This was interesting. I went from "hmm I am not sure about this" to "need book two NOW, please and thank you" pretty quickly. It was a slow start- and kind of weird, if I am being honest. I also wasn't sure about the likelihood that parents would sign their kids up for this with it being so unknown, but I guess if you're desperate... I certainly can't judge. The science part of it I didn't fully get- nor do I know if I was supposed to, but it didn't really matter. All that matters is that the author made clear that the stakes are very, very high. This could result in death, this was no joke. The characters were great too, and we got to see inside their minds so much while they were "dreaming". And I don't want to say a ton, because I am afraid that I'd spoil stuff, but it was a very unique way to get to know characters. There was some unbelivibility, especially when it came to letting the random med student stay in the room when stuff started going haywire. But, even though it was a little "off", her POV was essential, so it didn't bother me. There were some amazing twists too that I definitely hadn't seen coming, and the book kept me guessing the whole time. I am seriously excited for the second book, because I have no idea what the endgame is and I love that! Bottom Line: After a slightly shaky start, I got really, really hooked on this book. It was very unique and wholly consuming, and I am eager to read the sequel!*Copy provided for review

“This is a million times worse than the creepy monster in the cave. I could handle that. It was a monster, not a man. Although sometimes those can be one and the same.” this book. how to sum this up? uhm, okay, so imagine your worst nightmare. then imagine literally living that worst nightmare. okay, then imagine being with several other people and living their worst nightmare. all the while trying to figure out how to get through the nightmares alive, just to go back to a place called the Void. where it’s literally a space of... nothing. only to get sucked back into a nightmare after staying in the Void for at least 20 minutes. the nightmares last about an hour. also, you can’t remember why you’re there or how you’ve ended up in this dream-like state. yup, that’s what this book is. so, basically, one big mindfuckery and scary shit happening. i loved it. oh boy, did i love this book. so much so, in fact, that according to my libby, i’m going to have to wait for the sequel for up to 10 weeks. so, uh, guess who just bought the kindle ebook? yup, me. no way in hell that i’m going to be able to wait 10 WEEKS FOR THIS FUCKING SEQUEL. NOT TODAY, SATAN. anyways. besides this book being hella creepy, it’s fast paced and keeps you engaged. though, i will admit, i almost gave up on it. except i think it’s bc i didn’t actually give it a chance, i started it late one night and didn’t read enough for me to actually want to continue? again, i blame that on me being sleepy bc folks, this is a book you definitely don’t want to miss. trigger warnings for nightmarish stuff. i’m not kidding, this book had my skin crawling at times and gave me goosebumps. without being too spoilery, i’m just trying to give you a heads up with what kind of nightmares are to be expected, bc i know some of these can be triggering for some. but there are: being stuck in a graveyard, being buried alive, clowns, there’s also talk of PTSD, anorexia, self harming, abusive parents, and a lot of sleeping disorders. if you can put aside those things then truly give this book a chance. it’s one of those reads where you need to know what happens and you lose sleep over it. i surely did, it was hella intense and so worth every minute of it. this next part is going to be in bold bc idk how else to express my feelings so be prepared but this ending is literally one of the best, i’m literally shaking and my mind is like this: wjxososkaozoalskkxhiss4792929fjxjakzoak3729!|€,*\£_*]¥.’ and i know i’m being dramatic AND. I. DON’T. CARE. literally, oh my god. WHAT??? THE?? HELL??? DID??? I??? JUST????? READ???????? don’t finish this book before bedtime bc you won’t stop thinking about it and all thoughts of sleep will be gone bc you’ll just want to devour the next book. idontknowwhatthatendingwasbutimsomindfuckedokaybye.

3.5. This was great! It's intense, exciting and suspenseful. There are 7 patients, all under 20, with insomnia. They partake in a group treatment test trial, (new version of electroshock). Earthquake causes power malfunctions on site and the test goes haywire. Short version: kids get stuck together in their own nightmares. They have to stay alive and figure out how to survive each nightmare.I really enjoyed this. While the nightmares themselves are obviously terrifying. I didn't feel much fear or terror while reading. It's more focused on the suspense and thrill of watching, hoping and praying they "defeat", or survive each nightmare. Basically I was cheering outloud, "watch out! Behind you!", "Go go go!", "Not that way! ", Yes, come on, you got it!", "Hurry up dammit!!!!". The kids became my team and I in turn became their very vocal and emotional #1 fan;) Onto book 2, the duology's conclusion.

Dreamfall by Amy PlumTeens that suffer from a illness that makes it impossible for them to sleep without having nightmares have been moved to a clinic where doctors say that they have a cure. when the cure goes wrong and the teens are stuck in their nightmares and have no way out, they must try to face their darkest nightmares.CHARACTERS-I loved these cast of characters. I love reading about characters will illnesses in fantasy books because it adds a realistic aspect because some people do suffer from night trauma and I liked that this was included in a fantasy book.ROMANCE-Amy Plum is one of the best romance writers. Her books are filled with romance and it's so well written. This book had so much Potential to have included more romance. Cata and fergus were amazing and I would have liked more romance between the cause I ship these two.PLOT-This was one of my most highly anticipated books of the year by just reading the plot. The plot sounded so mysterious and super intriguing.ENDING-The ending was great and I can't wait for the sequel.Characters-8/10Romance-8/10Plot-9/10Ending-7/10Speed-9/10

I have had this book sitting on my shelves for a few years now. I've always been interested in dreams and reading creepy dream books. I read this book for the ayearathon readathon for the month of January. This months theme was new to me author or series and this book fits both categories. I have never read an Amy Plum book before, but from those book alone it won't be my last, 5 stars.Lets get into the fun part, what is this book about. Well I'm sure you have read the synopsis, but reviews are always so much more specific don't you think? The story is written in three POV's: Jamie (premed student), Cata short for Catalina (sleep patient) and Fergus (another sleep patient). This story name drops a few pop culture references like the Matrix and Pennywise the clown, without really naming it. There is an experimental sleep study that seven teens have been signed up for. All seven teens have some form of sleep disorder, whether it be night terrors or just really bad insomnia because of external reasons or mental reasons. The kids range from 13-19 and have all been placed in a hospital bed in a experiment room at a hospital. While the doctors are monitoring the teens vitals and sleep wave patterns there is a tremor or earthquake that shuts off the power. The doctors are assuming the power shut down did some kind of damage to the kids and are worried that the experiment will have to be cut short. Jaime the premed student is along for the ride. He is interning during this experiment for college credit and has bee tasked to take meticulous notes of everything that is going on. He can see something is off, but is too afraid to tell the doctors. Which I found extremely annoying. Grow some balls dude. When we switch POV we are in Cata's nightmare. There is a banging or knocking sound and a black wall appears. In order to escape her nightmare Cata runs through the darkness and finds herself in the "void". She's not the only one there either. As the book goes on we are sling shot around each characters nightscapes and how they are going to get out of them. All the while Jamie is trying to figure out the puzzle that the doctors don't see. I haven't read a book in one sitting in a long time. I haven't stayed up until 4am reading a book in a long time, so you know this one was good. It is fast-paced and slightly terrifying. I don't think goodreads puts this in the horror genre...if it is great, if it isn't, it should be. Definitely worth the read.So happy I have the sequel Neverwake. Definitely looking forward to picking that one up very soon.

Second read: 2018I reread this book in anticipation of the sequel which comes out in a couple of months. I was also in the mood for a creepy YA and since I really loved this book I decided this would probably do the trick. And oh boy, it did! I still love this book just as much as the first time I read it!First read: 2017That was epic! Check out my full review here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8RrCr...The story, the nightmares, the characters, I loved it all! If I had to give something negative to say it is that I want to know more (luckily this is not a standalone so I already consider that done) and that Jaime should have phrased the sentence at the end differently because that could make a huge difference but I get why this is more exciting! I love though that nowhere in this book is it specified whether Jaime is a boy or a girl, really cool! And I would be totally not surprised if this book is going to give me nightmares... Basically: I love this book and highly recommend it if you are looking for a cool and creepy YA thriller with a diverse cast of characters who are dealing with many different types of (mental) illnesses.

When an experiment goes wrong 7 teens are now stuck in a nightmarish world in their heads. It is is up to them to figure out what is going on and how they can survive/get out. Finally, after 2 years I was able to read this book! My library (one of them) finally had it, now here is to hoping that they will get the second book faster than 2 years after the release date as I worry I may have forgotten things or am not into the story any more. I guess I could buy the book, but since this book is only 4 stars and maybe the next as well it would just mean I would buy them and then give them away again (I only keep 4.5+ stars). This book starts off with our group of teens going to experimental therapy to cure their insomnia and then things go oh oh oh so wrong as an earthquake hits (yes, of all the things to happen) and they get stuck in their own minds in a nightmarish world that they will have to beat/survive. Next to seeing what our teens are up (through the voices of Fergus and Cata) we also get the POV of Jaime the premed student who was there to see how the research/therapy went. While I loved seeing Fergus and Cata, and also later Jaime, I do have to say I at times thought they had the same voices. Now with Jaime it wasn’t that bad as he was in another part (the real world), but Cata and Fergus? I had to go back at times to check who was talking this time. The nightmare world/Dreamfall and how it worked was very interesting, though also frightening as hell. All of the nightmares are terrifying and I have to say, since I could mostly read this at night, I had a few nightmares here and there. There are clowns, genocide, being buried alive, and several others. Though especially the clowns… shiversI loved that they found out bits and pieces of how the world is working and what they are supposed to do. It was really great that they started to work together and form a team.I also liked the Jaime parts as those gave us more insight in the characters, in what may be going on, and I just loved what Jaime did near to the end, I do hope his words find the right person. My least favourite character? Ant. I just wasn’t a fan of this character. They had some good moments, but mostly they weren’t that helpful and even caused a few moments that had me groan in frustration. From the start I had suspicions about Sinclair. It was just his character. He was too much of a slimeball to me. Too much trying to please people, or not even caring what he said. He was just way too suspicious and I kept wondering when he would show his true colours.Who or what the flickering monster was? I was eager to figure it out, though at times it just frightened me too much that I couldn’t think anything other than that I wanted to run away. ;)There are tons of twists and turns concerning characters, I have to say I never expected them, and was going AH, really??? quite a few times. :P I guess some you could have seen coming, but with how tired and fried I am given all the things in my life now, I just didn’t see them.Oh, and bonus points to the fabulous cover!I am just sad this one ended on a cliffhanger. sighsThis book was scary, amazing, it had an amazing atmosphere, it was delightfully dark and spooky, and it has plenty of twists and turns to keep you on your toes throughout the entire book. Recommended!Review first posted at https://twirlingbookprincess.com/

I won an ARC of this book in a goodreads drawing. An advanced laboratory is trying to cure insomnia by hooking young people up to a device. As usual in these things, something goes wrong. In this case, the youngsters' dream-selves are permanently in the dream worlds of their own making, while their physical selves are in comas. Meanwhile, the doctors in the lab try to save the kids and salvage the experiment. Some of the dreams are interesting, and there is some nice drama and tension, with a few surprising twists. However, it is PC to the extreme, so I took a star off.

The last time that I had heard (or read) anything from Amy Plum, it was the Die For Me trilogy. I think I read the books when I was about 14 (?) and I remember really enjoying them. That's most of the reason to why I picked up Dreamfall, because of who the author was. The rest of the reason was because the premise sounded absolutely AMAZING!Cata Cordova suffers from such debilitating insomnia that she agreed to take part in an experimental new procedure. She thought things couldn’t get any worse...but she was terribly wrong.Soon after the experiment begins, there’s a malfunction with the lab equipment, and Cata and six other teen patients are plunged into a shared dreamworld with no memory of how they got there. Even worse, they come to the chilling realization that they are trapped in a place where their worst nightmares have come to life. Hunted by creatures from their darkest imaginations and tormented by secrets they’d rather keep buried, Cata and the others will be forced to band together to face their biggest fears. And if they can’t find a way to defeat their dreams, they will never wake up.Dreamfall is actually a very short book, it has 200-and-something pages and IT IS SUCH A QUICK READ! I read it in about 2 hours and it was fast-paced, creepy and a crazy rollercoaster. The thing about the premise that intrigued me the most was the concept of sleep paralysis. I have endured it once, and it was the scariest thing that I have ever encountered and I'm lucky to have only been through it the one time. The patients in this book suffer with extreme insomnia due to OCD, PTSD, depression, anxiety, eating disorders... There is so much representation in this book for mental health and I was so happy to see mental health issues explored. I can only talk about the rep for OCD, depression and anxiety as those are things that I personally suffer with, and I can say that the representation was not at all harmful. There are three perspectives throughout the book: Cata, Felix and Jamie. Cata and Felix are our eyes and ears whilst they are in the dream world and Jamie tells us what is happening whilst the patients are in the bed and in the comatose state. What is interesting about the character of Jamie is that you don't know what gender they are. It's not at all important, but I'm pointing it out because I've never known a novel to do that before, and leave the gender to the reader's imagination. Speaking of Jamie, I feel like their last line of the book was somewhat stupid and non-specific. They could have been so so much more specific about what they said to Felix. I know that it's just a cliffhanger so that we find out in the second book, Neverwake, but in order to help Felix, Jamie should have just told him exactly what was happening.  "When working with an unknown situation, you have to identify known factors and work within their boundaries."- Amy Plum, Dreamfall The thing that set this book apart was it creepy factor. Whilst all of the subjects are in their joint dream, they encounter some of the weirdest and scariest things. Each dream that they go through is one of the subjects nightmares. And the patients have to survive in the nightmare. If they die in the nightmare, there is a very good chance that they will die in 'real life' as well... Plus... there's creepy clowns. VERY CREEPY CLOWNS. If this book was ever made into a movie, then I wouldn't go and see it, just because of the clowns. It really scared me when I was reading about that specific nightmare and I genuinely had a lot of trouble going to sleep that night. It takes a lot for me to be scared by a book. It's very easy for me to be scared by a TV show or a film (I'm an absolute wuss when it comes to those), but when it comes to books, it takes a lot to terrify me... And this book did exactly that. (Side note: I do think that this book would make an excellent movie though!)If you're looking for a quick, intense and scary read with a concept that isn't really explored in YA thrillers, then this is the book that you're looking for. I loved all of the characters (and loved to hate a couple), there were good friendships, banter, strong female characters and an absolutely plot-driven book. I'm very much looking forward to Neverwake to find out more about the characters and to see what happens to them. The second book CANNOT COME SOON ENOUGH! I needed it about 2 weeks ago and unfortunately, I have to wait til August. But I DO HAVE IT ON PRE-ORDER! SO IT'S ALL GOOD!

DreamFall by Amy Plum *4.5 stars* 12/29/2017. .."No one could possibly understand unless they had a sleep disorder themselves. They wouldn't know that being so tired during the day that you can barely function and then wide-awake at night can make you crazy. Literally."This phrase from the book defines how I feel every time someone tells me to just close my eyes simply sleep. News for you, it is not that easy. I recently experienced being awake for 40 hours without a drop of sleepiness in me. And reading this book, I learned the extension of this kind of disorder and others that I had no knowledge.DreamFall called my attention right away. Just being from Amy Plum is already a plus, but the conception behind this book is really interesting. The book is very well written, the plot development is great and the pace is fast. Plum found a way to explain disorders like Insomnia and Narcolepsy through Jamie’s POV without sounding too scientific and complicated to us, mere mortals. I really liked the alternative POV’ between Cata and Jamie, one from a character inside of the dream, and another from a character outside of the dream. On the other hand, I found Fergus POV unnecessary and I found very similar to Cata’s. On this book, seven people under twenty years old are part of an experiment to cure their insomnia, but something goes wrong and they stay trapped inside of many of their own nightmares. I liked the variety on the nightmares, they were very distinguished from one another. There was a twist at the end, I honestly didn't see it coming as I was looking into another direction. There are some discussions from reviewers involving Jaimie since we don't know if female or male, I don't know why but I always assumed Jaimie was a male, and I guess we will only know on the next book, seems like the author did leave this reference out on purpose. My guess is that Jamie will be the big twist on the sequel. Another discussion is why a pre-med like Jaimie seemed to noticed more than experienced doctors, and I would like to remind that Jaimie job there was to observe the subjects, meaning he/she was paying closer attention to minimum details that the doctors could oversee regarding all the chaos happening on that lab. I have a theory about one of the subjects but I can't say without spoiling something important. And can I say something about the cover ? It is perfect, it has everything to do with the book, I loved it! I really enjoyed this book. Overall 4.5 stars..

Thanks to the publisher for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review, This doesn't in any way influence my opinion on it. .Dreamfall is the first book by Amy Plum I'm reading and I've gotta say, I'm impressed. With such an intriguing premise, it's not surprising just how interesting the book actually is. Cata is an insomniac who takes part in a new experimental procedure believed to be the cure for Insomnia. But things go awry when the machine experiences a failure and Cata and some other teens-Fergus, BethAnn, George(short for Georgina), Remi, Sinclair and Ant.- are plunged into a dreamworld made of their own personal nightmares. Its just as good as it sounds, it was highly entertaining to read about their ordeals and adventures. I love thrilling intense books and Dreamfall is certainly that and more. The different POV's of the many characters are very illuminating, It's easier to get a clearer picture of the whole scenario and it definitely made the characters more relatable. There are a lot of interesting stuff that happened in it to make Dreamfall very memorable such as a lake full of mucus inhabited by a bluish Gollum(Yes, That Gollum. My Preciousssssss), surviving a genocidal environment, being in a coffin with dead rotten bodies, facing moving murderous statues and creepy red eyed zombie monks and many more great scenes. The Dream world is a very brilliant original idea that made it easier to enjoy reading the book. Filled with so many unexpected twists and turns, Dreamfall is an exciting thrilling ride that every reader has to enjoy.Amy Plum has crafted a masterpiece. After that ending, I certainly wait to read more books in this series.P.S: These might inspire nightmares for you, BEWARE!!!!
