This book outlines the crime and case from beginning to end. I followed the trial religiously and was glued to my TV awaiting the verdict while on vacation. I felt so disgusted. This book brought back a lot of those feelings. The only solace I have is that Casey Anthony will never be able to live the "bella vita" again because she is now so vilified. Her shot girl days are over.I was fairly informed about the case in its early stages. This book shed a lot of insight on the grand jury indictment and pre-trial hearings. It was also helpful to have a chronological outline of events. It even helped me to better understand the prosecution's strategy. It's sometimes difficult to follow the story in the question and answer format of a trial. It was nice to have a narrative form in the book to review. The first half of the book or so was a recap. I liked the bits about law procedure and the trial the best. I was very interested to read about Jeff Ashton's thoughts of Jose Baez. What a smarmy snake. The shenanigans we saw him pull on TruTV were only the tip of the iceberg. He'd been pulling that stuff for years. I also found it interesting that what we as viewers saw as bombshells were known to the prosecution ahead of time.I respect Jeff Ashton as an attorney and a professional. How taxing physically and mentally that trial must have been. His voice and personality come through in the pages of this book. Now, Linda Drane Burdick, please write your book.

Jeff does a very good job of presenting the case in a chronological order which was nice to see. I felt he was very fair to both sides however he did have an intense dislike for Baez which I can understand given the defense's in-court and out-of-court antics.I'll never understand for the life of me how a jury could have come back with that verdict. I understand that the Prosecution has to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt but it doesn't exclude the jury from using basic common sense in their evaluation. I'm a 52 year old man with a daughter who is 20. If she were missing for 1-2 days I would be a total basket case. Why would a mother wait 31 days, put lie on top of lie to mis-direct everyone, and show such a lack of compassion and concern? We all know the answer excluding 12 people. Think Susan Smith when you think Casey Anthony. They both wanted out of their current life situation and determined that they were where they are due to their children so that obstacle had to be removed so they could change their life for what they thought would be better. This is not the last book on this case but Jeff kudos on a job well done.

She is so damn guilty 😡!📷 M.E.M.O.R.I.E.S. 📷 In 2016 on this day, I was reading THIS devastating book.💔I didn't follow this story thoroughly enough to make an unbiased opinion while it was going on from 2008-2011 but I know the world absolutely hates Casey Anthony ...so I wanted to read all of the evidence before researching others' reactions to the not guilty verdict in order to form my own opinion. While I can certainly sympathize with the jurors that they had a difficult decision before them because there was no "beyond a reasonable doubt" evidence...However, the minimal time that they took to come to a verdict of what this two year old child must have gone through is absolutely disgraceful. While the evidence is circumstantial there are FAR too many things that point directly to her and ONLY HER! While I may not have convicted her to receive the death penalty I for sure would have sentenced her for manslaughter and many counts of perjury.. Just that fact that she didn't testify on behalf of herself makes it even worse. Does anyone actually think this woman is innocent? Even the jurors, as well as her own father think she had "something to do with it" but they just aren't sure what. 🤦🏻‍♀️ In my opinion, The system failed.5 ⭐️ 📖 Do you remember this case? 📖 If you were on this jury would you vote Guilty or Not Guilty ?#imperfectjustice #caseyanthony #memories

I followed the trial on and off on the computer last summer and was shocked, together with everybody else, at Casey's acquittal. It was a hard thing to swallow. The jury was a joke. I liked this book and was glad JA decided to write about his experience as one of Casey Anthony's prosecutors. I think the prosecuting team and the police detectives did very well. At the very least, Caylee had someone fighting for her justice, when even her grandmother gave her the shoulders and sided up with Casey.I know Casey is now scot free and that there won't be any justice for Caylee, ever. However, together with the majority of people who still have a few brain cells left, I agree with JA and the prosecution: she murdered Caylee to live her idiotic Bella Vita. So, now she has it, the Bella Vita. And good luck to her.

This is another true crime work that I really enjoyed reading. This isn't a justification of what went wrong, or a constant pointing the finger over the problems with the case. Rather, Ashton offers a look into the legal process of bringing this case to trial, with a careful exploration of what the State's case looked like as it was presented to a jury. The book also provides and insight into the difficulties that the case presented, and how the prosecution worked around those challenges.I particularly appreciated Ashton's frank honesty regarding the minutia of the case, as well as his perspective of even though he feels justice was not served -- it was not the fault of the system, but simply how the system works some times. It is hard to understand looking from the outside in, why the system doesn't always return a perfectly just verdict for all parties. But Ashton helps readers understand that justice in any system doesn't always work that way. The parties do the best they can, under difficult and sometimes horrific circumstances and then allow the jury to make a decision on how they see it. Sometimes the system works -- and sometimes it doesn't. But Ashton maintains his professional respect and appreciation for the system we have, while giving readers and insight into what it take to bring a major case to trial and successfully (or unsuccessfully) prosecute that case. This is a great read, about a high profile case that I would highly recommend.

This took me so long to read because it was so heart wrenching. This book is written by one of the lawyers on the prosecution team for the Casey Anthony case. He recounts the evidence found and the trial of Casey Anthony. Hearing everything just makes you so angry and frustrated because of what Casey got away with. Also hearing the defenses side during the trial and how nonsensical it was is frustrating and I can’t believe the jury found her innocent after hearing everything that was found and all the lies that Casey told. It’s just sad to think that poor Caylee Anthony will never have the justice she deserves.

Good book for the novice to the Casey Anthony trial --no justice yet for Caylee.

I enjoyed this book a lot, even after I would consider myself very knowledgeable with the trial & the book, to me, offered very little new information. I enjoyed Jeff Ashton as a person & as a prosecutor, and I enjoyed his, at most times, almost humorous perspective of the goings-on during the trial. I also felt he was candid & sincere throughout most of the book, minus a small part when he discussed warning the Anthonys about the defense's new strategy in accusing George of sexual molestation of Casey. I thought that was the only part where Ashton wasn't showing his true cards & intentions. His opinions of Baez & the defense's shotty strategy amused me greatly. It did read very casually, but I enjoy that in a nonfiction book. I, like some other reviews, did read the book rather quickly in hopes that towards the end (the book details the events of the case chronologically from the time of caylee's disappearance to the verdict of the trial) Ashton would reveal a little more of why he thought the jury did not convict Casey. While he did give some thought to this, it was vague. In retrospect, maybe he thought only the jury could really explain it, which is now why I'm waiting for a jury member to write a book! I thought he was humble & offered good perspective at the end for everyone, I found his opinions refreshing for someone so investing in the case; he wasn't expressing bitterness. I think this is a great read for someone who has interest in true crime novels, followed the case, & wants to hear some of the inside scope from a candid prosecutor.

This is the story of a mother charged with but ultimately found not guilty of the murder of her two-year old daughter.Written by the attorney who was part of the prosecution team, it lays down the case against Casey and the verdict that caught many off guard.Casey was a young and beautiful mother, living with her own parents at the time of the murder. But Casey has a problem. She lies. And lies. And lies. To make a long story short, her daughter goes missing, but for some reason she doesn't tell anybody until her mother wanting to see her granddaughter corners Casey.Eventually the police are called and Casey weaves a complex web of lies about a rogue nanny who kidnaps who daughter, changing her story only when she's called out. It's a fascinating look at the burden of proof. Ultimately, the jury finds her not guilty. According to at least one of the jurors, the felt as if the prosecution was not able to show what happened to the girl. Personally, I think the prosecution showed what happened, but the true failure was not in showing why it happened. Why did Casey kill her daughter. The only motive they provided was that she was simply tired of being a mother, tied down to a toddler. Personally, I don't buy it, though I do think she did kill her daughter. Would definitely like to read some other books about the case as there is a lot here beyond the crime. Casey herself is a fascinating case who takes habitual lying to a new level.

I remember when her verdict was announced. I was in Gainsville with my son who was a recent graduate of Levin School of Law. He told me she was almost certainly guilty but she would not be convicted. He was right. But why was he right? That question has remained in my mind for all these years as I would have guessed that she was guilty and would be convicted. I read this book hoping I might get an answer to that question but I didn't. Was it the jury? Was it the circumstantial case? Was it the Prosecution? Was it the Defense? Was it Colonel Mustard with the candlestick in the dining room? What happened that a conviction was not secured?I don't know. The Defense was bombastic and not sticklers for protocol, the Prosecution was on an intellectual and proud high horse, the defendant was cool as a cucumber and didn't look like whatever guilty looks like, and little Caylee was found too late for her body to reveal much about what had happened. Still, I thought for sure the jury would convict her of something besides lying to the police. All the circumstantial evidence was very incriminating. Although the prosecution of Casey did not result in conviction I am sure that ultimately there will be justice. With every effort made to secure truth and justice we now have to let it go and let God and nature take their course to re-balance things.

A must read for all fans of true crime! In the trial of the century, Casey Anthony was accused and later acquitted of killing her 2 and a half year old daughter, Caylee. The book is written from veteran prosecutor Jeff Ashton, who worked on the prosecution team in the trial. He details the events leading up to the trial, as well as the evidence put forth in the trial. This case still chills me to my core. It still amazes me how a jury was able to find Casey not guilty after all the damning evidence against her.

I watched this trial religiously when it was going on. I discussed it with other moms and got emotionally invested in it. The verdict, to this day, still shocks me. At the time of the trial, my oldest was 3 years old. At the time I finally got around to reading this book, my youngest is 3 years old. It's unfathomable to think what actually could have happened and I know we will never ever find out the truth. I enjoyed this read immensely. Jeff Ashton did a stand-up job of presenting the events in as unbiased of a way as possible. Truly, he is a saint because I know there are probably novels' worth of awful things I said about the defense on the internet. If you watched the trial and followed the story, I highly recommend reading this. If you enjoy true crime stories, this is definitely a rollercoaster.
