The Body in the Wake Audiobook Summary

“The twenty-five mysteries that Katherine Hall Page has cooked up for her sleuth, Faith Fairchild, make for delectable reading. What a body of work! Dig in.”

— Gregory Maguire, author of Wicked

Amateur detective and caterer Faith Fairchild is at her Penobscot Bay, Maine cottage preparing for a summer wedding, when she stumbles across . . . another body in this 25th entry in the beloved mystery series.

For the first time in years, Faith Fairchild has time for herself. Her husband Tom is spending days on the other side of the island using a friend’s enhanced WiFi for a project; their son, Ben, after his first year in college, is studying abroad for the summer; and their daughter Amy is working at the old Laughing Gulls Lodge, now a revamped conference center.

Faith is looking forward to some projects of her own. Her friend Sophie Maxwell is also spending the summer on Sanpere Island, hoping for distractions from her worries that she isn’t yet pregnant. And the daughter of Faith’s good friend Pix Miller is getting married to a wonderful guy . . . with a less-than-wonderful mother. Between keeping Sophie’s spirits up and Pix’s blood pressure down, Faith has her hands full.

And that’s before a body with a mysterious tattoo and connections far away from small Sanpere Island appears in the Lily Pond. Once again, Faith will get to the bottom of this strange case–and whip up a delicious blueberry buckle on the side.

The Body In The WakeBy Katherine Hall PageWhat it's all about...If you are a reader of any Katherine Hall Page book you know that there is a lot of yummy food as well as a few recipes within its pages. The other great thing is that although she has written tons of books you can easily read any of her books out of order. I have not read one in a while and it was easy to step right into her latest one. In this book there are a few murders that are quite puzzling. But there is also an undercurrent of dangerous activity in this book that seems to focus on rampant drug use in a small beach town. My thoughts after reading this book...Faith and Sophie and their families are the backbone of this book. Faith is sort of like Jessica Fletcher...she always seems to either find a dead body or be around when one is discovered. And that’s the case here. Faith is a chef and is always working on amazing comestibles. Mackerel spread, amazing sandwiches, yummy salads, these are her specialties. There is a recipe for coleslaw as well as one for lobster rolls in the back of this book. What I loved best...This was a great cozy mystery...I loved Faith and Sophie and their families. I loved the surroundings. This book was a lovely breezy reading experience. What potential readers might want to know...Readers who love cozy mysteries and food should really enjoy this book. I received this book from the publisher through Edelweiss. It was my choice to read and review it.

It was the first book I read in this series and I'm happy I requested it because I discovered a great series.Even if there are a lot of books in this series I had no problems in understanding the plot and the characters.I loved Faith, she likable and relatable, a strong and clever woman. The other characters other well developed and likable. The plot was engaging, entertaining, and it kept me hooked till the last page. The mystery was great, well developed and it kept me guessing till the end.I look forward to reading other books in this series.Highly recommended! Many thanks to William Morrow and Edelweiss for this ARC, all opinions are mine.

I really love this series. This is the 25th book in the series and I've read all of them. I've gotten attached to the characters. Faith Fairchild is the main character, along with her husband Tom. They have two kids who have "grown up" as the series has progressed and are now college and high-school age. Faith's best friend and neighbor is Pix Miller who has two or three kids also, and (view spoiler)[one of them gets married in this book! (hide spoiler)]This is another great entry to the series and deals with a timely subject matter. It was a nice quick read and as usual there are recipes in the back of the book. I might have to try making a blueberry buckle someday!

Faith and her husband Tom and daughter Amy are summering on Sanpere Island. Faith is busy spending time with her friends: Sophie, newly married, and Pix, whose daughter will soon be married. But several things mar this idyllic time, not the least of which is a dead body. Not known to the island’s inhabitants, the dead man is connected to another dead body through matching tattoos. Much of the enjoyment of the series comes from the interaction of the characters as they deal with the problems of day to day life, which soon become complicated by the unexplained deaths. Well written with a mystery to solve that almost takes a back seat to the characters lives, this book will stand alone, although to really understand the characters, readers should enjoy the series from the beginning.

Excellent read as always. CONGRATS to Katherine Hall Page on her 25th anniversary of writing and her 25th book. Was so nice to find a new book by her. Loved all the stories as she and her husband had small children and could really relate to the way their life was. Now the kids are grown and It has changed so much for them. New neighbors move in and lots of problems are starting with them. This book has a lot of mystery, murder, drug dealings and surprises and funny things too, when someone comes in town and tries to control her friends-- son's wedding plans. All in all the really evil people are found out regarding the drugs and murder and the police are notified in the nick of time. Thanks for the recipes too. Look forward to more books by KHP. (-:

I love the Faith Fairchild mysteries for the now so familiar main character Faith Fairchild. Faith is a caterer and amateur sleuth. The settings are quintessential New England and the recipes that Faith prepares when not solving the latest murder, yummy! A light but enjoyable cozy!

For Faith Fairchild, this is supposed to be a relaxing summer on Sanpere Island Maine with her husband Tom, daughter Amy, and friends Sophie Maxwell and Pix Miller. But things don’t quire work out that way – Sophie is upset about the fact that she can’t seem to become pregnant, Amy is having issues

It's time for a celebration - indeed it is! One of Katherine Hall Page's riveting Faith Fairchild mysteries is always signaled by lines at book stores and online orders and her twenty-fifth tale is no different (simply more intriguing if that is possible.)The Body In The Wake finds Faith luxuriating in the warm, sunny weather at her summer cottage in Penobscot Bay, Maine. As if that weren't enough she also has time for herself for the first time in ages. Her husband Tom has secreted himself in a pal's empty house across the way in order to finish a book. Her son is employed by his professor in Rhode Island, and her daughter is up to her elbows in a summer job at Sanpere Shores. At last Faith is able to see to some of her own projects - don't believe it!Kind-hearted Faith is distracted by her friend Sophie who is worried because she isn't pregnant yet. And she needs to help plan the wedding of her friend Pix's daughter. But at this point Faith is shocked to find a body in the lily pond - not just any body but one with a puzzling tattoo. Any thoughts of Faith's own projects fly out the window.Congratulations to Katherine Hall Page on her 25th anniversary (so to speak) and terrific reading for us!

Faith Fairchild is back in book number 25, and bodies keep falling in her way. Despite her best intentions to enjoy the peace of Sanpere Island, Faith is quickly caught up in a murder investigatio...all while distracting her friends (Pix and Sophie) from their worries, preparing to cater the wedding of Pix's daughter, and supporting daughter Amy in her first summer job as a chef-in-training. While it doesn't make for a relaxing vacation, it does make an enjoyable book. When an author has written a character for as long as Katherine Hall Page has penned Faith, you might expect the series to grow stale. Fortunately for us, Faith isn't trapped in a time warp and has been allowed to age and watch her children grow. These changes make sure that each book remains fresh and interesting. This book is perfect for a summer afternoon in a hammock.I received a copy via LibraryThing's Early Reviewers.

I enjoyed this book more than I thought I would. I must admit that I read some reviews before I finished the book. I have read all of the books in this series and it’s been fun to watch the characters grow older. Fun to see Samantha plan her wedding and see Amy and Faith work together in the kitchen. Some things were solved a little too easily, such as Pix and Sam’s problem with their neighbor. That was unrealistic. Also when one of the characters is found out to be an addict she is off to rehab in less than 24 hours. I did like the different family members that arrived for the wedding and how their personalities interacted. One thing that I didn’t like was the repetitive referral to Lowell, MA. This book has sub stories based around the opioid epidemic. All of the affected characters came from Lowell, even U Mass Lowell was mentioned. Unfortunately, drugs are everywhere and it seemed unfair to keep mentioning Lowell. Overall, I did like the book.

This is the latest in the chronicle of caterer Faith Fairchild. It is a perfect summer read and will keep the reader turning the pages as they lie on the chaise or beach. The setting is Maine during the summer. All your favorite characters from previous novels are 0n Sanpere Island as they prepare for the wedding of Pix's daughter. The main plot involves a problem that is very much in the news and a concern for all ages. There are many subplots ranging from a mother-in-lawzilla, creative writing seminar, obnoxious neighbors, and of course descriptions of lobster rolls, salads, desserts, and recipes. I enjoyed reading about Faith's daughter and her progress in the culinary world following in her mother's footsteps. This is a great read and congratulations to the author for keeping her stories and characters so fresh and exciting as this is the 25th in the series.

I really liked this book. I had never read any of the 24 other books in the series, but I was delighted with this one. I will have to find the other 24 and read those. Two friends, Faith and Sophie, can't seem to stay out of murder's way. They find bodies. They solve crimes. They delight you with fabulous menus and the activities that happen in a small community. There are bad guys about in that community, though, so these detecting friends can't quite stay out of harm's way. Katherine Hall Page is an author I wish I had discovered years ago. She knows how to tell a good story, make characters real and make you like them. And anyone who mentions Mrs. Pollifax is a gem. (The recipes were a bonus.)

This book tackles a very serious problem in the context of a cozy mystery — the opioid epidemic. In some ways the true victims here are not the murder victims, but those who have become addicted to opioids. Faith is on her annual summer vacation in Maine, with daughter Amy working at a local resort, while husband Tom works on writing a book. At the same time, plans are well underway for friend and neighbor, Pix's daughter Samantha's wedding, when her fiance's mother, Alexandra shows up, determined to make it a wedding to remember. But once again, to Tom's distress, Faith finds a body, but this time she is determined not to become involved. But can she keep that resolution? This is a very powerful story, and well worth reading. Highly recommended.

Good story, well plotted mystery and some funny parts as well. Faith and Sophie find a dead body while swimming, then Faith and Tom find another body while boating. Tom does not want Faith investigating and she does step back, while Sophie steps forward. Samantha's wedding is ahead for the end of the summer and a surprise visit from her future mother-in-law throws everything into a tizzy with the plans. Luckily Babs, Sophie's mom, enters and saves the day! Good read and an enjoyable mystery. Good recipes as well!

Took me a while to complete this book since I was trying to read bits and pieces while reading for NetGalley but I finally got it done. FABULOUS book but then, all of Katherine Hall Page's books are! The ending on this book was totally unexpected as was the intro of one of the characters. I was fascinated by the way she wove in the situation that occurred at the end (sorry, but I don't want to give anything away)! I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good mystery. Easy reading with fantastic ending. Enjoy! 📚
