I absolutely adored this novel. I thought that the two protagonists were great. This novel is written in the POV of Violet Lee, which is our female protagonist and Kasper Varn who is our male protagonist. However there are considerably more chapters from Violets POV.Violet is a headstrong, kick ass and all in all an awesome character. But their were moments where I was screaming at her. Kasper Varn however is just SEXY! that's all I have to say on him. He is just amazing!I won't go into the plot as you guys can just read the description but I can say that I was not satisfied with the end. The ending left me with a lot of questions that I wanted the answers to. However now that I know that their will be a sequel titled 'Autumn Rose', I hope those questions are finally answered. Overall I recommend you read this book as its entertaining and can be pretty funny at times. Also it's set in England which I thought was a good change as most YA novels are set in America. Even though this novel is about vampires and there are a million other vampire novels out already, I found this to be quite a unique take on them. All in all I think if you enjoy reading about vampires then I think you will like this novel. Also don't be intimidated by the size. I finished this novel in two days. It's an easy read so you will just fly right through it.

I'm obsessed with this book, peeps. I'm bullying my fellow bloggers to read it and I keep talking about it.Thing is there are plenty of faults with the plot and writing in general, but it's just such a compelling, powerful and magical read, that I haven't noticed much of that while I was blazing through The Dark Heroine *grinning*First of all, it's a gritty, violent, sexy and pretty raw read. The main character, 17 year-old Violet is not a damsel in distress, she is a daughter of a powerful man who just happened to be in a wrong place in the wrong time. She sees a massacre of vampire hunters by a bunch of young arrogant vampires, who sweep her away to their manor in the countryside. The rule is: humans who know of their existence are killed or turned. However, when vamps find out who Violet's father is, either choice will bring both societies on a brink of war.So, snarky, stubborn and get even Violet stays in the manor as a hostage, gets embroiled in complicated vampire politics and develops hate/love/weird friendship relationships with a young, vicious vampire prince, Kaspar Varn. I did not move, still rubbing my chest. “My name is not ‘Girly’! It’s Violet!” Like a shot he was just inches away from me, forcing me against the wall as his hand wrapped around my neck. A single finger was pressed against my vein, stroking it. “And I’m the fucking Prince!” he snarled, grip tightening. My eyes widened and I struggled under him but his grip just tightened. I closed my eyes, not wanting to see his face, so close to mine and reeking of blood. A single image flooded my mind behind myclosed eyes: the lifeless body of Claude Pierre, crumpled and bleeding on the stone flag. “I could snap that pretty neck of yours in two with less effort than it would take for you to squeal,” he whispered in my ear. “So I suggest that you do what we say, because you can’t outrun us and the police won’t stop us.”Kaspar *sigh*, he is a a dreamy, dreamy monster. He is a proper anti-hero, and by all means I should have hated him for being a jerk and all. He kills, he maims, he is being cruel and cold, and yet at the same time, there are certain reasons for his behaviour, and the more he connects with Violet the more they are both changing. She acquires some of his ruthlessness and he softens up.According to urban dictionary, kaspary is a level of awesomeness so high it kicks you in the ass and leaves you breathless and bewildered. So here you go, Abigail Gibbs created a new word for us to use :DThere is a complicated plot of vampire mannerisms and rituals, an ancient prophecy and even different dimensions, so I wouldn't call this book your average vampire YA. Oh, and the vampire balls are alien and magical! There is also plenty of violence and some sex involved, the latter shows how blatantly screwed modern teenager's views on women and how a girl should perceive herself. I don't blame Abigail for that because she writes what she knows, however it is sad that young girls feel that they deserve so little respect. The world Abigail Gibbs built is an ambitious one. It's also very flexible, so I wouldn't really know what to expect from the book two. It just reads like a twisted, dark fairy-tale. I only know that book #2 is on my autobuy list and that this 18 year old British author has a wonderful potential for growth, if she can write like that at her age.Very much recommended. I...uhm... even made a playlist for this book on YouTube. Embarrassing, I know...

An absolutely amazing read! I can't believe how awesome this book was. It was a long read and I was hesitant, but it looked so good, I had to snag it for an ARC:) I'm so glad I did. The sequel will be out next year and I can't wait to get it!I was completely engrossed in this book and all the emotions it invoked in me. It was sexy and dark. I love a well put together vampire story. This was the perfect vampire romance. I enjoyed seeing Kaspar go from dark and frivolous to complex without apologizing for his past.Speaking of Kaspar, what a sexy vampire! I can't blame Violet for any of her choices. The plot was complex and full of back story that wove into the story seamlessly. It's hard to believe someone so young wrote something so beautifully dark.I can't even put into words how much I loved this read. it's one of those books that comes along ever once in a blue moon. I couldn't put it down and I didn't want it to end. It deserves more than the honor of five glittery stars I have to give. Check it out March 5th 2013 when it's released and quickly add the sequel to your to read list:) You won't be sorry!

I was asked to review this book by the lovely people at Harper Voyager and boy I am so glad I said yes. This book grabbed me from page one and kept me right until the end.Whilst on a night out Violet is witness to a horrific slaughter of a group of men. As the witness Violet is kidnapped by the murderers and taken to a lavish estate. On arrival Violet learns these men are not ordinary they are vampires. *squeal* It turns out this isn't as simple as it first seems. Violet is the daughter of a powerful man and there are more complications than anyone had hoped as everyone is thrown in to a whirlwind of vampire-human politics. Violet is a beautiful character, she has spunk and courage where others would have given up. She portrays herself as tough but she is troubled and vulnerable. She hates the situation she has been thrown into and hates the vampires even more. As time progresses she finds herself making friends with several vampires but still loathes Kasper who was the one who decided to kidnap her rather than kill her.Kasper is harsh and often cruel to Violet but he soon realises that isn't working. He is ultimately trying to get her to turn into a vampire and forcing her isn't going to work. No matter how hard either of them try they are drawn to each other. Kasper is exciting and dangerous but he has a really sweet side. The side that every girl wants in a guy. He is protective and attentive to her needs and Violet soon finds herself falling for him. It's hard to find the words to express how much I loved this book. I was really swept away by the story, I loved the Varnley estate and I felt I was experiencing everything as if I was right there with them. I laughed, I cried and didn't want it to end. Do yourself a favour and buy this book.

I felt like reading a good vampire romance this week. It satisfied all the blood lust. Dark, but not super gory.

Dark Faerie Tales

November 18, 2012

Review courtesy of Dark Faerie TalesQuick & Dirty: A human and a vampire prince are thrown together under strenuous circumstances and passion ignites.Opening Sentence: Trafalgar Square is probably not the best place to stand at one o’clock in the morning. The Review:Dark Heroine is basically a story of a girl with Stockholm’s Syndrome succumbing to her desires for a sexy, dark, and dreadful vampire. Saying that, this book is so much more. While I may not believe the premise of this story is note-worthy, I must admit that the characters and their world linger in my mind long after the story ends.Violet Lee, daughter of a prominent government official, was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Now she is a “guest” of a family of royalty who just happen to be vampires. Her world now turned on its head, Violet struggles to come to terms in the aftermath. She can never go back to how she was before but is balking against the future laid out in front of her. All of her fears and expectations of her “kidnappers” are challenged again and again, leaving Violet confused on what are the right choices to make. Should she give in and become a vampire by choice or fight until her dying breath to stay human? What should she do about her growing attraction to the sexy and aggravating Kaspar?Kaspar Varn, prince and heir to the throne, has really stepped in it this time. The human he kidnapped happens to be the daughter of a very important man in the human government that is intent on his people’s demise. Now his father wants him to “persuade” her to become a vampire of her own free will in order to avoid a war between their people. That would be easier if she wasn’t such a pain in his neck. Kaspar’s character is arrogant, as befitting his station, and has little patience concerning Violet. She seems immune to his charms and thinks him a monster. But the more time they spend together, the closer they get until the attraction between them leads to its inevitable conclusion. Will Kaspar put everything he has at risk for the sake of one human girl? While I was slightly put off by more than a little predictable plot, I was pleasantly surprised by the twists along the way. The introduction of prophesies and other mythical creatures takes what would be a simple story and adds depth. The complex world that surrounds the characters is fascinating. Not only do you have vampires living in secret among the humans, but you have the introduction of other dimensions that put your imagination in overdrive. I look forward to learning more about the Sagean people in particular in future books.Though the love story is center stage, the political machinations take up any slack and help the story be more evenly-paced. Violet may be young, but she is oddly adept at reading and interpreting the hidden motives of the Varn family. This is most likely because is reminiscent of high school dramas.I would have given this book a lower rating but for the fact the story lingered in my mind even after finishing it. I find that I WANT to know what happens next. I want to see where this series goes from here. I recommend this more to young adult genre lovers that are looking for more kick in their stories.Notable Scene:Suddenly, something cold pressed against my back. “I’m going to suck your blood,” a voice murmured against my neck, and I flinched.“Don’t do that!” I exclaimed as plastic fangs pressed themselves into my neck, arms clad in dark material wrapping themselves around my shoulders. “Kaspar! Get off!”“No,” he replied, pressing his chest into my back. “I quite like it here.”I struggled for a moment, trying to shrug his arms off. “At least stop slobbering all over my neck, and take those stupid fake things out; you have real fangs, for Pete’s sake!”“Keep it down; people will hear,” he muttered, tone alarmed. But all the same he reached up and popped them out, placing them in his palm. He examined them, poking the rounded and exaggeratedly large incisors with the other hand—the one still wrapped around my chest. “Stupid humans. We wouldn’t be able to eat with fangs that size.”“You’re just jealous because you have puny little things.”FTC Advisory: Harper Voyager/William Morrow graciously provided me with a copy of The Dark Heroine. No goody bags, sponsorships, “material connections,” or bribes were exchanged for my review. The only payment received came in the form of hugs and kisses from my little boys.

3.5 starsI was pleasantly surprised by The Dark Heroine: Dinner With A Vampire. While this book began as a fan fiction, it bears absolutely no resemblance to the work it was based upon – it even pokes a little fun at the original work. The book begins and ends a little abruptly but once I got into the story, the pacing improved drastically. The story is told from two points of view: Violet Lee, a 17 year old human and Kaspar Varn, a vampire prince and heir to the throne. The points of view do not alternate so it is important to keep track of whose voice is narrating. The world building is fascinating. Set in England, most of the story takes place in Varnley, the estate of the Varn vampire royal family. The vampire lore is a little bit different than the usual – these vampires are able to go outside during the day although their skin burns easily, they are strong and fast, and they need blood but are able to eat food, These vampires are born into this world although a few are made. The vampires are part of an inter-dimensional world of other paranormal creatures. The writer has a good sense of humor and transfers it to her characters. I was chuckling at several parts, especially the way that Violet handles her predicament. I loved the subtle pokes at the Twilight vampires spotted on a T-shirt:"SORRY I DON’T DO SPARKLES. BUT I WOULD TAP VAN HELSING ANY DAY.”I was especially intrigued by the Prophecy of Heroines. The prophecy stated that nine women would unite the human and vampire world. This added an interesting aspect to the book and made it stand out for me. With regards to the main characters, I really liked Violet. Violet was feisty. She was a free spirit, much to the disdain of the royals. She understood that her situation was tenuous and that she was basically a walking dinner amongst all the vampires. I loved her inner dialogue, too. Kaspar was a little annoying. A gorgeous and reluctant heir to the throne, Kaspar had a regal arrogance around him. I had to cringe every time he called Violet “Girly.” It just seemed out of place for his type of character. I think I would have been less offended had he just called her “Human.”This book claims to be “..the sexiest romance you’ll read this year…” Hmm….I’m not too sure about that. I really didn’t see this book as a romance, although there are some sexy scenes. Warning for love triangle haters – there is a mild love triangle, but it seems to get resolved quickly. It’s really hard for me to believe that this book was written when the author was only 15. The Dark Heroine: Dinner With A Vampire was a fun diversion, perfect for a stormy weekend read. I’m looking forward to reading more books by this young debut author.Thank you to Edelweiss and William Morrow Books for a review copy of this book.Review posted on Badass Book Reviews.

Review: So I was asked if I would review this novel after reading the summary and I jumped at the chance. It sounded exciting. Something fresh for the vampire world of books. London based and one of the most exciting and hard hitting beginnings of a book ever I was sucked in (pun intended) London, vampires everywhere, hot bites, hot scenes, very original plot and on the edge of combustion moments.I had heard nothing about this story or how it came to be. It has had over 16 million views on wattpad and the author is only 17!! This Book was deliciously good from the first page! The action started and kept me reading. I love my city (London) so when a book is set her especially a paranormal one I always get excited to read it and boy I was!A girl witnessing something that will change her life forever. Meeting the sexiest of vampires in a London landmark and then falling into their seductive trap especially from Kaspar. The addictive male lead of the story. His one liners and evil sexy self was more than I could handle. He's domineering character made this book what it is! One hell of a addictive story! We have Violet Lee the confident "Heroine" of the story who's such a joy to read. She isn't annoying, she isn't reparative she's exciting and addictive as well.I love that we have all different ages of characters! We even have children vampires! I thought that was clever! I absolutely loved the sexual tension between Violet and Kaspar their relationship kept me turn the page. The Dark Heroine is an epic Sexy vampire story set in London with afflicting characters and nonstop action (literally) I cannot wait for this book to be published because it will be HUGE! Bigger than it already is! :)
