The Pirate Who’s Afraid of Everything Audiobook Summary

Recommended for summer reading by The Huffington Post!

“When Shivers sets sail, adventure–and laughs–abound.”–Tom Watson, author of the Stick Dog series

Meet Shivers, the scaredy-est pirate to ever sail the Seven Seas. Along with his best friend, Margo, and his loyal fishmate, Albee, Shivers battles a giant squid, discovers hidden treasures, and gets pooped on by a pigeon to save his parents from the clutches of evil.

You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll never eat snails again. So put on your pantaloons, batten down the hatches, and join Shivers on his first (but still very dangerous) adventure.

A fun book for reluctant readers!

I read an advanced reader copy to my niece and nephew and they couldn't stop laughing and asking me to "read more, read more!" The writing is terrific and the illustrations make the book even funnier. I would go on any adventure with Shivers and Margo, who are two of the most appealing and likable new characters in children's lit.

Synopsis- Shivers is a pirate. His mom is a pirate, his dad is a pirate, and his big brother is a pirate. It runs in the family. So why is Shivers afraid of everything that can do anything on this world? And if that’s not bad enough, why did his entire family have to be captured while sailing the high seas, leaving only Shivers and his pet fish, Albee, to rescue them. But then Margo comes along. Her dad is chief police officer, and she’s almost as good as him! Will Margo be enough to whip Shivers into shape? What I Thought- This was a hilarious early chapter book! I read it while I was stuck in bed because I was sick, and I read it in an afternoon. It really cheered my spirits up. Shivers is a great character, and he’ll make you laugh! The book has random chapters missing, or blotted out, but all with a purpose, and they add humor (for example, the last page of Chapter 5 is blotted with “squid ink” because they were being attacked by an angry squid). I like how Margo, Shivers’ best friend, helps him on his adventures, taking control of a “frightening” situation. It’s a nice touch that she’s a girl. The book is wacky and slightly unbelievable, and kids will learn a little about the Statue of Liberty. Story-book pirates still exist in modern-day New Jersey and New York City, and they sail around looking for the treasure in the Statue of Liberty’s torch. This is a really funny book!*NOTE* I got a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review

I picked this book up at the library as a bed time story for my 6 year old daughter. We would sit on the couch each night and read a chapter at a time to make sure she stayed interested without being overwhelmed. I think the whole family enjoyed it as much as she did. We all laughed at it and were sad to see it end. :)

Shivers comes from a long line pirates. But unlike most of the pirates in his genealogy, Shivers is afraid of everything especially snails. When his parents and his older brother are taken captive it's up to Shivers to find and rescue them. With his trusty fish mate mate, Albee, and Margo who he mee

OK so I pulled this book off our shelves on a whim. I opened the book randomly and immediately fell in love with the humor contained within! Silly enough for young readers and ridiculous enough for us adults that clubs can't even handle. The characters are truly lovable and the pace of the story is great: it grabs the reader and keeps the excitement going right until the end. Our Library classifies this book as "easy" so while it is accessible to many readers, the writing and narrative is interesting enough even for advanced readers who just want a quick book they can finish in an afternoon. So if you love zany characters, awesome humor, and a great swashbuckling tale, this book is for you!

I might have read this book a long while ago and never finished it, but I still thought it was funny. There was no twist unless you read the chapter numbers like I do, and this book kept me entertained for the 30-60 minute time I read it. I recommend this book to anyone that wants a quick read that keeps them laughing the whole time.

My favorite character in this book is Margo because she s brave and helped Shivers make it through the quest. What surprised me about the book is that Shivers is a pirate and is less brave than Margo. I would not change the ending of this book because it has an ending that made me smile and make me feel good. If you want to go on an adventure with Shivers and Margo then buy this book!!! :)
