The Rocky Road to Romance Audiobook Summary

“[Evanovich] is funny and ceaselessly inventive.”
Los Angeles Times Book Review

“Do yourself a favor and read this one.”
Washington Post

The author of so many spectacularly successful mystery novels featuring the inimitable Stephanie Plum, #1 New York Times bestselling author Janet Evanovich displays a more playfully romantic side with The Rocky Road to Romance. Evanovich delights with a classic, pre-Plum contemporary romance novel that’s sure to please–a lighthearted tale of three-way love affair involving a radio “dog lady”-turned-traffic reporter, her handsome program director, and a huge couch potato canine named Bob.

When I first stared reading romance novels several years ago, I happened to pick up a few of the newly rereleased early works of Janet Evanovich. I realized recently that I'd somehow missed this one. I now have a little more experience with romance novels, and while reading The Rocky Road to Romance it occurred to me that Evanovich's early books are more in the line of good natured self-mockery than a serious attempt at romance. The story contains many romance cliches which are stripped down to the bare essentials. None of the characters, including the dog, and few of the situations are believable, but they're fun. Several of these early works have a hero that falls in love instantly and decides he's going to marry the heroine. The book continues from there as he finds ways to convince the heroine she can't live without him. The dialog is clever and the characters endearing. Bob the dog is a hit. The book does change pace a bit towards the end as our heroine has a very believable struggle trying to figure out who she has become during her single-minded pursuit of her doctorate, and what she wants for the future. While not exactly deep, it gives the book more depth than it starts with. The early works of Janet Evanovich won't win any writing awards, but for a funny read with a little heart, they're pretty much a sure thing. 4* for entertainment value.

After an unexpected accident with the traffic reporter on WZZZ, operations manager Steve Crow was desperate for a fill in reporter. Desperate enough to give the kooky dog lady Daisy Adams a try behind the wheel. Even after a terrible first broadcast, Daisy was sent o a breaking news story and ended up being the story. Having a hand, or more like a fender, involved in the capture of the bad guy, the threat to Daisy’s life seemed to hit Steve hard. His overwhelming feeling of protectiveness leading him to hire a bodyguard (Elsie Hawkins). Something about Daisy also prompted Steve to get a dog (Bob), buy an SUV and a house - good thing he’s rich. Now if she would just slow down and stay out of trouble maybe he would be able to sleep nights.Another pre-Plum re-release. Got a kick out of the first Bob the dog. Also liked the character of Elsie Hawkins, you can really see the beginnings of the character of Grandma Mazur. Lots of thing happen to and around Daisy, I liked how Steve handled it all. As with most of Janet Evanovich books, there was laugh out loud moments as well as the action and the character interactions. Another example of why she is such a popular author.

This is the second novel I've read today. I've been on a reading frenzy!! I adored this novel by Evanovich and I gotta hand it to her, the woman knows how to write. A funny, endearing romantic story.Rocky Road is the happy story of a guy who owns a radio station, a likeable overworked woman who does the traffic report, and a dog named Bob. They all fall in love, they outsmart some bad guys, and they eat a lot of dessert. The addition in this story of Elsie Hawkins is truly comical. For an elderly lady who runs her own body guard service and she is THE bodyguard, she is hysterically funny.

Oh how I love Janet's stories! I have yet to find a book that doesn't capture my attention from page one, and has me laughing out loud! It's so refreshing to take a break and read her amazing stories!

When the delightful, daffy Dog Lady of station WZZZ offered to take on the temporary job of traffic reporter, Steve Crow tried to think of reasons to turn Daisy Adams down. Perhaps he knew that sharing the close quarters of a car with her for hours would give the handsome program director no room to resist her quirky charms. He'd always favored low-slung sportscars and high-heeled women, but that was before he fell for a free spirit who caught crooks by accident, loved old people and pets, and had just too many jobs!Loving Daisy turned Steve's life upside down, especially once he adopted Bob, a huge dog masquerading as a couch potato. But was Daisy finally ready to play for keeps?I have to admit that I laughed more than I have in a long time while reading this book. Nothing is as easy as it could be and things are blowing up etc but I have to admit that it is a good read if you need more than a chuckle. It's about someone who does way too much and is afraid of love but still embraces the people and the world around her and refuses to give up! Enjoy the drama and the love!

Very funny and a very well done light novel. This had a elderly lady in it that became Daisy's body guard, with a huge gun in her purse. It so reminded me of Grandma in the Stephanie Plum series. Daisy is an overachiever who goes for the traffic job at her radio station. She manages that but she also manages to tap a drug dealer (with her traffic car) and he gets caught. All kinds of horrible things happen to Daisy after that. Her boss Steve falls in love with her while trying to protect her. It's a wonderful love story and I loved the different characters, especially Bob, Steve's dog who eats everything and gets into trouble. I can't wait until the next Stephanie Plum novel comes out.

Steve needs a temporary traffic reporter and Daisy, his dog lady spot, volunteers. She ends up hitting a drug dealer and her life is threatened. Steve never knew how fantastic Daisy was until she volunteered and now he will protect her no matter what. I enjoyed this story. I can see elements that later went into her Stephanie Plum series. The characters are quirky but fun. The story was good with humor sprinkled in it. Danger was Daisy's middle name. This is a summer afternoon's beach read.

Daisy Adams was a graduate student and she'd written a cookbook for homenade recipes for dogs, plus she also had four other part time jobs. (She delivered early morning newspapers, she was the guard on the street corner for the kids to cross the street, she had a slot on a radio show with recipes for dog biscuits and dog soup, and she worked in a nursing home). She was also working on her dissertation, which was giving her fits. This was writing so very well, it was enjoyable and I loved it!

It's the Caddy--it has a personality of its ownElsie Hawkins returns with her steel, gas-guzzler of a caddilac to help solve a mini mystery while the main players of the book fall in love. There's a sheepdog named Bob, a teenaged brother eating everything in sight and Evanovich's usual wit and quirkiness that make this a wonderful little romance.

CuteVery fun, light-hearted, and playful. I found myself giggling at “Bob” the whole time. It was a quick read. This was only my second book from this author but I think I will be reading a lot more. The books are fast paced as far as the characters go but they are still a lot of fun.
