Double Shot Audiobook Summary

“Today’s foremost practitioner of the culinary whodunit.”
Entertainment Weekly

“In the genre of culinary mystery writers, Davidson is a Julia Child among Betty Crockers, and there is no question that Double Shot is her best book.”
Denver Post

New York Times bestseller Diane Mott Davidson is the darling of cozy mystery readers and dedicated foodies the world over. Davidson is really cooking with Double Shot, another tantalizing puzzle featuring her beloved protagonist, accomplished caterer and sleuth Goldy Schulz. Whipping up a rich souffle of murder and mischief, Davidson has Goldy in a stew once again, when the reemergence of her psychopathic ex-husband and a murder that follows soon after brings chaos into her world. And, as always, many delicious recipes from Goldy’s kitchen are featured as well.

Review Diane Mott Davidson's "Gold Bear Culinary Mystery" series were one of the original cozy series I started reading, and once I started, I ran through the first ten as quickly as I could. By then, I was caught up and had to wait for the successive ones to be released. Double Shot, her 12th book in the series, was the first one I had to wait for... and I was restless.Goldy and her antics, and friends, were a nice release from the reality going on around me at the time. And when her ex-husband, Dr. John Richard Korman, showed up, we all knew there'd be trouble. From the beginning of the series, Marla and Goldy talked up so many bad things about him, I was certain he'd be killed in the future only to cast suspicion on one of them... and the payoff happens in this book. The doctor is first being stalked, then found dead. The police, even though Goldy's new husband, is one of them, can't help but find her behavior a little shady. Even Marla wondered what Goldy had been up to. And the whole time, Goldy's trying to protect her son Arch from the bad side of his father. As expected, she handles it well and even Arch is grateful for her support during his father's murder. After a dozen books hearing about the louse, it was good to see it taken care of. Yes, I know... I shouldn't condone murder. But it was in a book... where fantasies are healthy, my friends. Even Jessica Fletcher agrees with me in the books she writes -- and that I've read!Series fans must read this one purely to see the comeuppance. But it would not be a good one to start the series with, as history is important. About Me For those new to me or my reviews... here's the scoop: I read A LOT. I write A LOT. And now I blog A LOT. First the book review goes on Goodreads, and then I send it on over to my WordPress blog at https://thisismytruthnow.com, where you'll also find TV & Film reviews, the revealing and introspective 365 Daily Challenge and lots of blogging about places I've visited all over the world. I love this series. It's comforting to come back to. This is one of my favorites in this series.

My first thought when I started reading this book was that Goldy should be severely handicapped by now with all the head injuries she's had. But, I was pleasantly surprised with the twist and turns this title took and that it dug a bit deeper than the previous book. I was also happy to see she actually did something about Arch's bad behavior. Not too fluffy and definitely the best so far.

I read “Double Shot” while I was getting ready to leave for Italy and while I was on the plane (and even during my first day of jet-lag at the hotel). I chose it because it helped with travel stress after not having traveled during the long period of the Covid pandemic. Such a book helped because it kept me tied to America during a transition to another country in which I am also very much at home.Ok. Enough of the personal diary posing as a review!I’ve reviewed two others of Ms. Davidson’s “Goldy the caterer books” on Goodreads and I don’t really want to repeat why I like them. The plot is dense and deals with two murders, one of them significantly close to Goldy. Again, we are involved in the friendships, the gossip that provides clues, and the entertaining, suspenseful, and also somewhat improbable sleuthing by Goldy. What is really good is how Ms. Davidson continues to open the “meta narrative” of the series of books to provide a continuing and growing life situation for the series’s constant cast of characters. In this way, Ms. Davidson, as I can see, opens new areas of interest and development for the books that follow. This is well done and in the best tradition of mystery books and even TV series like “Tatort” segments.

It's been awhile since I've read about Goldy and her crew, but the sleuthing and gossip and catering all came back in this installment. Fun read.

DOUBLE SHOT DIANE MOTT DAVIDSONThis is a story with one dead man, too many suspects with too many motives. That’s what happens when one person invokes anger in pretty much everyone he knows. Goldy is the first suspect as it was her gun but as the story unfolds we as readers find out there were loads of people gunning for him.Mixed in with murder and mayhem was a lot of cooking. I gain ten pounds reading her books but I can’t resist. I found a who and why done it compelling as it keeps me on my toes as a reader. The book was appetizing as the recipes in it. I give kudos to the sleuthing chef and give the book a definite 5 star rating.

When her ex-husband was murdered the police suspected Goldy. Come to find out, lots of people did not like her ex!

Double Shot was published in 2004. Around that time frame I read a few of the books in this series and apparently drifted away as "shinier toys" in the form of new authors, etc. appeared around me. However, since I was facing a 12 hour drive/both directions this past weekend, I wanted something interesting and somewhat lightweight to listen to. Ms. Davidson and her Goldy Bear series was just the thing. The story was intricate enough to hold our interest (while not lulling into a trance as some books can). Reading about characters felt like renewing old friendships. It is set near Aspen, CO which provides breathtaking scenery to build a story upon, this time even including a quickly encroaching forest fire. Goldy is a professional caterer, her husband is the local sheriff, I think. She is also an amateur sleuth and this time it was to solve incidents including being attacked herself and having her catering facility sabotaged. Add a "jerk" ex-husband and a teenage son and you've got a great mix. Highly recommend.

After reading about the Jerk swanning in and out of Goldy’s life in several of the previous mysteries, I’m sure no one will be surprised or upset about what happens to him here. The blurb doesn’t tell you exactly what occurs so I can’t reveal it without a massive spoiler. But what kind of news about him would have me turning mental handsprings…in a murder mystery? Hmmm, let’s think.Obstreperous, arrogant, threatening and obnoxious, John Richard Korman was a force to be reckoned with and no one knew it better than his two ex-wives. But the sudden withdrawal of his presence is not the end of him as a source of misery in Goldy’s life. When she comes under suspicion, matters go from bad to worse. This is one of the best mysteries yet, with a plethora of clues, a bewildering array of suspects, secrets, lies, scandal and gossip galore. The many denizens of Aspen Meadow take their turn at center stage as each talks and speculates about Goldy’s possible guilt and other unsavory subjects. It’s a thrilling novel, complete with everything that makes Goldy so memorable and likeable.

Double ShoyFirst time I read this I was not impressed. I don't know why. Must have been a bad time in my life. Just reread it and I couldn't out it down even though I reminded the killer. Goldy waa much more sympathetic than I usually found her in the later book s and I actually found myself liking Arch instead of wanting to backhand him across a room. Needs more Julian since he's pretty much barely there. I have a hard time any "Orange haired" woman would show up at a funeral in an orange dress, especially someone who used to be and apparently still is very involved in the church. And finally JRK gets the ending he's deserved since the first book in the series. Recipes are mouthwatering and the ones I've made are easy to follow and successful.Highly recommend.

Goldy is out doing her catering thing when she gets attacked and her first gig at the roundhouse is sabotaged that's the start of a crazy day. Later there is an argument with "the Jerk" her ex and then she finds his dead body. Of course the cops think she did it so she's off to solve the mystery to protect her and her son Arch.I hadn't read one of this series in a long time. It was nice to reconnect with the characters. Didn't see this one coming the one I thought it was nope, not her. Anyway If you've read the series I would keep going and if your new I would recommend it for your reading pleasure.

This book "Double Shot" by Diane Mott Davidson is #12 in the Goldy Bear Culinary Mystery series. The continuous characters, Colorado setting, and a crafty ending will entice readers to want more tales by this author. The story was well written touching on aspects of life that people only whisper about and hide under the rug, creative introductions of step family members, and juicy parts. One of the author's better written mysteries so far in this series. copy right 2004 355 pages and recipes

It took me a while to get “into” this book, but it got better as I read more. Interesting story line, with plenty of mystery, piling added crimes on the initial story line. It became a little like a [catered] bowl of spaghetti until the very end, when the solution and resolution was like a sweet [catered] dessert. I enjoyed the lighthearted nature of the writing, and might even read another mystery by the writer. But, unfortunately, I wasn’t enamored enough by the book to make this a favorite author, and wavered between giving three stars or four. 3.5 would have been my choice.

This was a GREAT mystery! Given the fact that something happens that will make anyone who has read this series very happy, it was probably one of my favorites of the series. I really liked the realistic reactions people had, and the detailed notes made of Goldy's feelings as well. Tom seems to be coming out of his funk, Arch, although upset, seems to be on his better behavior. I did not guess answer to this puzzle at all. Recommended!
