Dancing at Midnight Audiobook Summary

Lady Arabella Blydon has beauty and a brain, and she’s tired of men who can see only one without the other.

When a suitor tells Arabella he’s willing to overlook her appalling bluestocking tendencies on account of her looks and fortune, she decides to take a break from the Marriage Mart. During an extended stay in the country, she never expects to meet Lord John Blackwood, a wounded war hero who intrigues her like no other man.

Lord John has lived through the worst horros of war…but nothing could have been as terrifying to his tormented heart as Lady Arabella. She is intoxicating, infuriating…and she makes him want to live again. Suddenly he’s writing bad poetry and climbing trees in the pitch-dark night…just so he can dance with her as the clock strikes midnight. And even though he knows he can never be the sort of man she deserves, he can’t help wanting her. But when the harsh light of day replaces the magic of midnight, can this tormented soul learn to love again?

"My world has turned from black to white. Kissing in starlight, basking in sunlight, dancing at midnight."°•*⁀➷ Find a man who writes you poetry as beautiful as this boy does for Bell. Even if it's only one time, I'm absolutely positive there will be more. This has got to be one of my favorite Julia Quinn books. So comforting and beautiful and emotional. I love when the male character in romance thinks he's the "bad guy" and it takes the female character to show him that he's not. I mean.... Rhys and Edward? John took that trope and ran with it, I loved him from the very first moment I met him. And it only got better with every page I turned. I feel like I'm never going to stop smiling over this book. Their jabs about poetry and their friendship... above all else, you could tell these two were friends before they were lovers. In the time period it's written in, I know that's more of an ideal of our time, but it's beautiful to see nonetheless. And I know that Julia likes to slip some mystery into her books, but this one was done so perfectly. Just, exceptional story-telling. This really lived up to my shelf name for Julia's books. Such a fairytale for these two beautiful souls. What a great book. Julia Quinn strikes again.- Paige

3.5-4 stars! My favorite of the series. John is a wounded war hero, which means tortured, damaged hero! He does push the heroine away a bit too much for my liking but they were still so adorable together.

This was JQ's second book. It is amazing how improved it was from her first for me. The main difference was the hero. Lord John Blackwood was a war hero, and I'm a sucker for a tortured hero of good character. It was a bit melodramatic, but it was also funny and entertaining.I already adored the heroine Lady Arabella Blydon who was introduced in book one as Emma's cousin. As a beautiful daughter of an earl who had already turned down many marriage proposals, Belle was still likeable and down to earth; but she also had the self confidence to fight for herself and for John.Loved it!

** spoiler alert ** The second book of the Splendid Trilogy about Emmas wonderful cousin Belle. She is an amazing, intelligent and witty character and I really liked her. I wasn't so sure about John, though. He had so many mood swings from one second to the other and from time to time he was a bit exhausting. But I guess that maybe one gets that unpredictable if one is haunted by the ghosts of his past.Like in Splendid with Woodside the whole story about George Spencer was a bit over dramatic but I still liked the way Belle and John cared for each other in that situation. And how he hesitantly accepts the fact that he isn't alone anymore and that he can count on the help of Alex and Dunford. Dunford was again brilliant! I love the scene where he reluctantly helps Belle to steal into the house of John's brother. A great new character was of course Persephone. She was wonderful! She made me laugh so often. Although I'm not sure that 'Persephone Place' is such a better name for John's estate than 'Bletchford Manor' was. *laugh*

I love Julia Quinn anyways, but I also love a romance novel in which one (or both) of the main characters has a major emotional battle to overcome. The usual obstacles are good for a read too, but the ones with emotional road blocks offer a much greater depth to the characters. All of my favorite romance novels seem to have that as a theme; this is one of those. As always with one of Quinn's novels, I laughed, I cried, and I fell in love. This is the second book in the Blydon series. Although the stories are independent of one another, the order of the books is the order in which events happen for these families and friends.

The story started out very good but then went a bit downhill. It got way too predictable and the dialogue became a bit repetitive. I enjoyed the first in the series a bit more and hope the last book will be just as good as the first. However it did make for a comfort and nice read.4-Stars

a hero who believed that he doesn’t deserve anybody finally found a heroine who can’t be bothered about that nonsense. i really enjoyed dancing at midnight because of arabella. she’s smart, witty, and john is absolutely enamoured. i liked that belle was in control of her marriage status and independence. while her parents are on vacation this whole time, it seems like they left belle the decision-making process instead of pushing her to get married as soon as possible. john’s tormented by the war and couldn’t begin to imagine that he’s worthy enough of love. this is one of my favorite tropes in the historical romance genre. the broody hero and a sunshine heroine.books in the series:1. splendid: ✰✰✰✰2. dancing at midnight: ✰✰✰✰3. minx

Lady Arabella is independent and has had to turn down several marriage offers because its obvious that it isn't her they want but her fortune, so she decides to take a break and stay with her cousin and her husband in the country. While reading, Lord John finds her and through some witty and entertaining interaction they begin to fall for each other....however John is a wounded war hero and has some ghosts in his past and is unwilling to put Arabella at risk...even if that means giving her up and the love he has for her. Arabella is determined not to lose the one man she has come to love, one who respects and loves her for who she is and not what she is....but will she be able to show this tormented man how to learn to love and more than that learn to let go and live life once more?Dancing At Midnight is the second in the Splendid series....and the first time I have read this book...even though I could have sworn I had read every one of Julia Quinn's books already. I have no idea how I missed this one before now...but I am just so glad that I found this treasure. One of my favorite things that I loved about this one....is that the hero was a complicated characters....and that he wasn't this just about perfect man...that he had flaws and demons and Arabella was such a sweet character...you couldn't help but like her...she had such charming qualities about her. Even though there was a dark side to this book it also was filled with laughter and a sense of carefreeness (is that even a word? if not I just created a new one) that just endeared me from the first page to the very last and now I am thinking I need to read the rest of the series again. Dancing at Midnight was a true romantic romp....and I had such a fun time reading this one!!! Definitely a keeper!

The second book in the Splendid Trilogy, a.k.a. Blydon trilogy and features Belle Blydon. Lady Arabella (Bella) seems like a Regency-era heroine. Alex and Emma from Splendid appear often throughout the book - Emma is pregnant with their first child. In fact, as the story opens, Belle is stating at Westonbirt while her parents are in Italy. Belle is just completing the Grand Shakespearean Quest in which she is reading all of the plays in alphabetical order.I've read most of Ms Quinn's novels and decided to get a hold of the ones I hadn't. This was one of them. It was a fun read with a dark edge to it. After reading Splendid, I expected Belle to be paired up with Dunford. Imagine my disappointment when I saw some other hero’s name in the description thingy. Julia Quinn is the author that started my obsession with historical romances and Dancing at Midnight was one of the first of her books that I tried...after the Bridgerton series, of course. ;)

Lady Arabella Blydon is staying at her cousin's home in the country when she meets Lord John Blackwood. Bella finds John intriguing. He is a wounded war hero who one minute is very cordial, and the next minute he is very cold. John, who blames himself for the death of an innocent girl, feels that Bella deserves a better man. Even though he finds himself falling in love with her, he keeps pushing her away.I really liked both Bella and John and thought they were a great couple. The only drawback with this book was that I really didn't understand John blaming himself for the young girl's death. I think that is why I couldn't quite give this book 5 Stars. Otherwise, I found this book a quick, entertaining read. My rating: 4.5 Stars.
