Dark Magic Audiobook Summary

Young Savannah Dubrinsky was a mistress of illusion, a world-famous magician capable of mesmerizing millions. But there was one–Gregori, the Dark One–who held her in terrifying thrall. Whose cold silver eyes and heated sensuality sent shivers of danger, of desire, down her spine.

With a dark magic all his own, Gregori–the implacable hunter, the legendary healer, the most powerful of Carpathian males–whispered in Savannah’s mind that he was her destiny. That she had been born to save his immortal soul. And now, here in New Orleans, the hour had finally come to claim her. To make her completely his. In a ritual as old as time . . . and as inescapable as eternity.

5 Her dark one Stars "The five years I allotted you your freedom have been hell for me and dangerous to anyone I came into contact with. I am very close to turning, and it is too late for me to seek the dawn. It was necessary for the safety of all concerned that I come for you now." -GregoriFirst read June 2012 reread January 14 2016Reread January 23 2017Reread oct 29 2020*Spoilers* "And just for the record, your mind needs to be washed out with soap! Half the things you think we're going to do are never going to happen. I could never look at you again."-SavannahDark Magic the 4th book in the Dark Series by Christine Feehan is my favorite book of the whole series, by far!! I am totally in love with this book. In books there are some couples you like, some you hate, and some you love. Some that feel like just a story, some that make you excited, and then there are the couples that feel so real and tangible that they come to life for you. They are like a friend, they live inside you. Burnt in your memories for all times. They have so much chemistry that you feel it as deep as they do, and they make you long for that kind of love. That is this couple for me!! Damn even after 4 times of reading this book I still find it amazing. I still get all giddy with butterflies and try to savor every moment of the read."You are part of me. I cannot hurt you. Touch my mind with yours. I want you more than I have ever wanted anything in my entire existence." -Gregori "I was being childish, Gregori, when I made such an accusation," she said softly, her eyes meeting his squarely. "I wanted my own life, with no one to answer to. It was thoughtless and wrong of me. And I was afraid. But I'm not now, and I ask your forgiveness - "-SavannahMy Savannah: You will show some respect, Gregori ordered. Savannah burst out laughing, then reached up to caress his shadowed jaw. "Keep hoping, my love, and perhaps someday someone will obey you." Aidan's mouth twitched, the golden eyes sliding over Gregori in amusement. "She inherited something besides her mother's good looks, did she not?" Gregori sighed heavily. "She is impossible."-Gregori, Savannah, and AidanSavannah started off in this book running for her freedom. She was naive and didn't understand how her actions effected Gregori. She was scared of him because he was so powerful. He brought out such deep feelings, that she was afraid that he would take over her life. But Savannah grows up quickly when she almost loses Gregori to the darkness. She realizes how selfish she was and she becomes a truly wonderful lifemate to Gregori. Loving, supportive and giving. She brought out a much softer side of Gregori. She got him to let go and live. Made him smile, laugh, and she loved and accepts him unconditionally. Savannah had a very mischievous playful personality. What I loved most about Savannah was she knew what an amazing man her lifemate was. She wanted to learn how to be a partner to Gregori, she wanted to help this great man of power, take some of his burden, and be a team. She wanted to be worthy of such a great lifemate. And she was! "When an old geezer marries a young chick, he has to learn to get back into the swing of things. Party time. Night life. Does it ring a bell, or has it been too long?" she teased. Gregori bunched her hair in his hand and tugged. "Show some respect, bebe, or I might have to turn you over my knee." "Kinky." One delicate shoulder rose and fell in a sexy little shrug. "I'm willing to try anything once."-Savannah and GregoriMy Gregori: "Savannah? Were you trying to hit me?" "I did hit you - twice, you scum. You didn't even notice the first time." She sounded very irritated with him. For some reason it made him want to smile. "I apologize, mon amour. Next time, I promise I will notice when you strike me." The hard edge to his mouth softened into a semblance of a smile. "I will even go so far as to pretend that it hurts, if you wish it."-Gregori and SavannahOh my Gregori. My yummy, sexy, bossy, dark Gregori, how I love you! Gregori was perfect, amazing, and I fucking loved him! Just sayin'. Gregori has been alone a long time. Shunned by the very people that depend on him for protection and healing. He is the boogie man of the Carpathian people. Gregori feels he is dark, a monster. Killing countless vampires some who were close friends and family has taken it's toll on his soul. Gregori is so close to turning because he gave Savannah five years of freedom that he was almost lost to the darkness when he claimed Savannah. Gregori was super protective. He battled with giving Savannah the freedom she wanted and keeping her safe. He was very old fashion when it came to his views of a woman's role in a relationship, listen to her lifemate and stay safe. But Savannah shows him quickly that women today don't play that game! Gregori truly wanted Savannah to be happy, so he did soften and learned to compromise with Savannah for the most part, but he was still Gregori, and he never changed when it came to her safety. Gregori was perfect! I would change nothing about him. Look at your hero now. See what I really am. I kill without thought. Without effort. Without remorse. Without mercy. I am the monster you named me, and I am without equal. Someday I will pay the ultimate price. Savannah's soft laughter whispered over his skin. It was a gentle, cleansing breeze drifting through his mind. And who is stronger than my lifemate? No one can kill you. -Gregori and Savannah "I love you, Gregori," she whispered softly against his throat. "I really love you. The real you. Do you understand?"-SavannahEverything about this couple cried out to me. I felt extremely connected to them. Their love was explosive, wild, deep and very moving. I can't give words to how much I love Savannah and Gregori. Gregori in all his kickass glory, and Savannah given him all kinds of hell. I loved watching Gregori eat his words about how to handle women, it was too funny. And the way Savannah wrapped Gregori around her finger was so cute. It was great seeing their love grow to something unbreakable and beautiful. It was fun getting to see Aidan again. And to make a perfect book even more unforgettable we meet Gary Jansen in this book. God I love me some sweet, nerdy , Gary Jansen! I truly loved this book from start to finish, and never wanted it to end! This book is awesome and amazing and if you like paranormal and have not read this book you should try it. "You are my world, ma petite, my very existence. You are what makes living bearable. You are my light, the very air I breathe." His mouth brushed her pulse, her earlobe. "You are not meant to walk in death. You never were." "If you walk in death, Gregori, then that is where you will find me. Right beside you. I belong where you are. I am your lifemate. There is no other. I am your lifemate." -Gregori and Savannahhttp://jessicasoverthetopbookobsessio...

Gregori (the Dark One) and Savannah Dubrinsky The night was alive with the heartbeats of countless people. He walked among them, unseen, undetected, moving with the fluid grace of a jungle predator. Their scents were strong in his nostrils. Cloying perfume. Sweat. Shampoos. Soaps. Alcohol. Drugs. AIDS. The sweet, insidious smell of blood. There were so many in this city. Cattle. Sheep. Prey. The city was the perfect hunting ground. Gregory, the dark one, saved Savannah when she was still inside her mother's womb. He knew since then that she was his (see book 2 Dark Desire) and that his best friend’s only daughter will be his only salvation in order not to turn and become an evil vampire.Savannah will grow up, leave the Carpathian mountains and she will become one of the world's greatest magicians. Nobody will know that what they see is real and her magic is real. Savannah tries to postpone the unavertable, but soon Gregory will come in New Orleans to collect his lifemate before the horrible vampires steal her away from him. "How did you find me?""I always know where you are, every moment. Five years ago you said you needed time, and I gave it to you. But I've never left you. I never will." Gregory is very controlling and very old. Savannah is very naive and very young. But somehow they fit like the two sides of the same coin.My favourite story among the first four.

How phenomenal, savage and compelling "Dark Magic" is in the 4:th instalment in the "Dark Carpathian"-series.I have missed Christine Feehan`s passionate writing so much that my eyes was glued to the pages and her world of the Carpathian creatures just enthranced me.She always know what her readers wants and never shies away from trying something new.In "Dark Desire" Raven and Mikhail got a daughter that almost died if the most powerful Carpathian male Gregori The Dark One hadn`t saved her,and that born daughter turns out to be his lifemate Savannah Dubrinsky.A Carpathian can`t live without his lifemate or else turns into a renegade vampire and i so badly wanted his empty soul to get a heart. So when the time comes for him to claim Savannah she begs for five years of freedom and despite his gnawing hunger for her he gives her that time.Savannah in her fear and naivity runs away from him and leaves the Carpathian Mountains and becomes a world famous Magician. So when Gregori finds her to finally claim her she tries to fight the vehement sexual tension between them to no use,and in mids of all this there is a Master Vampire itching to get his claws on Savannah.Savannah Dubrinsky is one hell of a heroine-and had to be for being the lifemate of Gregori and daughter to Raven and Mikhail (MCs from "Dark Prince").She has a fun sense of humor, great pride and compassion and indeed a strong temper and i could definitely understand her need of independence and freedom. But in running away from Gregori she was only running away from herself. She failed to understand at the start how connected she and Gregori`s souls and mind truly are. They did everything as one ever since she was born. Its such a beautiful way for a romance to develop and i loved when Savannah understood how truly selfish she was being in rejecting Gregori. After all those centuries of holding out, he had risked the damnation of his soul for her five years of freedom. That broke my heart as it did to Savannah, she could no longer after that turn her back on Gregori.Gregori The Dark One is a legend, the most powerful healer and the most ruthless warrior.Gregori was one of the ancients and a true wild Carpathian male with a code of honor and a iron will stronger than a mountain. He had been living a isolated life for centuries holding out for the hope of finding his lifemate and he had been so dead inside that nothing could bring an ounce of feeling in him.In the eyes of others a heartless demon and a monster and sentenced to a lonely existence if it weren`t for Savannah. This man brought tears to my eyes and his shattering pain was so raw that my heart broke so many times.Like Savannah i also thought "Who could possibly live year after year in such an empty void and survive with his soul intact?".His love for Savannah was larger than life and the world and while he always knew they belonged together he always feared for her safety and that someone would take her away from him.His magnificent and passionate way of loving Savannah brought tears to my eyes,i am so happy he finally got his happy ending. As a couple they are light and darkness blended together.Savannah is the only soul to ever stand up against Gregori and its so fun watching how she has him around her little finger.Every time Gregori said i love you in french i just swooned more and more and their every scene JUST MADE ME FALL IN LOVE so much that i consider Gregori and Savannah one of my top favourite couples of all time!Savannah with the beauty of her nature turned Gregori inside out and melted his coldness and frigid existence. They know each other the best and strives to make each other the happiest.I also found their new human friend Gary Janson a entertaining nerdy character and i also know he has a niece that will be a heroine to one of the Carpathian males in the future. Also Julian Savage got mentioned a lot and a mysterious singer with the name Desari which makes me so excited to read their book next!!

At last, we get Gregori's book. Most readers who started the Carpathian series at the beginning with Dark Prince , have been waiting for our ancient warrior to get his happily ever after --and with Dark Magic, the wait is over. We only had to wait four books. And for me, the wait was worth it. Gregori is one of the oldest and the deadliest of Carpathian men. As with all the men of his kind, he lost the ability to feel emotions and see in color when he turned 200. He's nearly a thousand now. And he is dangerously close to losing his honor and becoming the evil vampire he hunts. All vampires were Carpathians to begin with: they all drink blood; can use telepathy; shapeshift; and must avoid the sun. But Carpathian men who give up hope of salvation, of finding their lifemate, embrace evil and become the beast that is the vampire. Gregori has found his lifemate. She is Savannah, daughter to his best friend, Mikhail. She is a magician who has left the Carpathian Mountains of Romania to seek her independence. Gregori had come to her when she was 18, but she was not ready to be with him. She begged him for time and he gave her 5 years. These years have been very difficult for him. So difficult, that when they are finally reunited, he is almost more beast than man. He spirits her away to his lair and "claims" her. Savannah is very attracted to Gregori, but the act between them is far from gentle. She thinks him a monster, until she allows herself to use the telepathy of her people and see inside his mind. Gregori is a tortured soul. He believes himself to be the monster she has branded him. But he loves her; he needs her. He doesn't think he deserves her; especially because he thinks he tampered with nature and somehow forced her to become his lifemate while her mother carried her in the womb. Savannah begins to soften toward Gregori as she sees the ways he is fragile. And she realizes that despite his strengths and dominating ways, she has much power, simply because of his feelings for her. The pair leave San Fransisco and head to New Orleans, where they take up residence. They quickly run into trouble with a ring of vampire hunters who are, ironically, led by a vampire. While raiding a safe house for the hunters, they find Gary Jansen, a scientist and true-believer, who they quickly befriend. He becomes Gregori's first human friend, and goes on to become a reoccurring character in the series. Gregori is very old and has some old ideas. He is stubborn and overbearing. But he is also very sympathetic. He loves Savannah so completely. And their love scenes are very, very hot. Like all of these books, there is a little repetition with the language. We get several reminders that Gregori is "the Dark One." And our standard reminder that he is "sensual with a hint of cruelty." But it's just a tiny annoyance in what is a really good book. It's one of my favorite in the series and one that Carpathian fans cannot miss. 4 1/2 stars.

4.5 stars. I was so excited to read Grigori's book but worried it would be a let down. I am happy to report that I was not let down. I loved watching Grigori fall head over heals for Savannah and do exactly the things he often mocked Mikail and Aidan over with their women. Their first sexual experience did not go well. Thank goodness Savannah did not turn completely crazy and he managed to make up for it. I loved Savannah. She was independent and fierce. Yet once she got over her short lived meltdown over her loss of independence, she handled Grigori with care and he really needed that. I loved that she challenged him but supported him in all ways. Nothing in his past got to her and when he was depressed over his part in making her his life mate - she called BS on it and basically steamrolled him into moving on. She just seemed to always do or say what he needed. Grigori is tortured but watching him find the light through her was beautiful. This was by far the sweetest book in the series. Of course, Grigori likes to give orders and he commanded her against her will too often for her safety. This could have gone much worse if it were not for Savannah's character. He is sad and tortured, unfeeling, a monster. Yet with her, he is none of those things. You see hope, laughter, empathy and excitement over the future. The book dragged a little in the last 30% for me. Which is shocking because of the action scenes. It may have been be have I am tired! I like Gary, but I am not into picking up strays as a plot device. Hopefully he will be useful later. I like the heads up we got on Julian's story. Made me want to continue for at least one more right now so I can read Dark Challenge. My only real complaint is the lack of continuity to previous stories. Bluntly, I want to see little Carpathian babies!!!! I would think Raven would have more. Plus now we have Jacques, Aidan and Grigori.. Let's see some kids! This is totally safe. No cheating or OW.Safety Gang Spoilers(view spoiler)[ I only bring this up because it was discussed. He comes very close to taking blood from a female. He only does not use her because he senses her pregnant. Upon returning to Savannah she is upset because she smells the perfume. Grigori just says he was out feeding. She is still upset. He could have told her he did not feed from the woman. Jerk! He also makes a few mental references to his sexual past and she accuses him of being a whore. He responds to none of this, just ignores her statements. While I prefer to think him celibate like the others, soemething told me he might not have been. My annoyance was his callous dismissal of her concerns. But this was the beginning, before she had him jumping to her tune! (hide spoiler)]

Oh, this one was outstanding! I'd been anxious for Gregori's story, and it didn't disappoint. He's the ultimate "bad boy" and, though it isn't very P.C. of me, I loved the depth of Gregori's love for his lifemate, his passion, his extreme protectiveness and even his jealousy! The unexpected touches of humor and the humans you will come to know are just icing on this delicious cake. Now, I'm looking ahead to Julian...

Summary Savannah Dubrinsky, is the daughter of Raven and Mikhail, the prince of the Carpathian people. When she learns that Gregori, the infamous “Dark One” is her intented lifemate, known as the boogie man of their people, the most respected and feared of their kind, she knows at eighteen years old she is not ready to tie herself to such a creature. So she pleads for time, five years in the states. Gregori has lived for centuries, one of the oldest of their kind, he knows he will not be a easy mate, so he gives her that time, despite the fact that he isn’t sure he can wait five years for her. Savannah has now had her precious five years, and while on her last stop on her tour in San Francisco, her closest friend is killed by a vampire, and Gregori saves her. She knows that this day would come, but she also knew she would never be ready to be his lifemate. She is overcome with grief over her closest friend, and being tied to a dark and dangerous man, but they decide to head to New Orleans, for the jazz music festival, and soon they will be facing hunters from the human society out to destroy their kind, and a master vampire and only working together will they be able to survive. The Hero Gregori “The Dark One” is the healer of his people, and second in command to the prince, who also happens to be his best friend. Gregori has defended his people and protected them and killed vampires left and right. He has studied and learned everything he can to be the most knowledgable and cunning. He has few friends, many enemies, and has searched for his lifemate for centuries. When Mikhail and Raven conceived a girl, he knew she was his lifemate, and he must stay strong for her. She is his only hope. Gregori can be a hard hero to like. He is very rough around the edges, believes women should be protected in a cacoon and away from any and all danger. He is very “alpha male” and he is possessive. But Gregori is also very easy to connect with. As soon as you see the real Gregori, who has lived a life of killing and darkness, we see a man that only wants to be loved and needed. The Heroine Savannah Dubrinsky, she is the daughter of the prince. She has her own special gifts and abilities. She is powerful in her own right despite being a fledging. She grew up with only her parents, and a wolf as her companion. She now resides in the states, doing magic shows and is infamous for it. But Savannah has one fear, her lifemate. She knows that she will have to be binded forever with Gregori, but she fears him more than any other. She knows he will be hard to live with, and she is very independent like her mother. I really liked Savannah, but at times she could have used a bit spine, especially in the beginning. I understand why she feels the way she does, but at times she could be a bit selfish. But what I really liked about her character, was how she stands up to Gregori, and doesn’t back down.Plot and Story Line This is a re read or “re listen” for me. Every now and then I get in the mood to listen to the earlier books in the carpathian series, since I own them all on audiobook. I realized I had yet to review Dark Magic. So I decided now would be a good time to do so. The first half of the book isn’t always easy to listen to. We see the relationship between Gregori and Savannah have a bit of a rocky start. One of the reasons for this, is that Gregori has waited to long to claim Savannah, and if he doesn’t he will become a vampire. And no one will be able to destroy him. We see how his control is slipping away, and Savannah at first doesn’t realize how bad it truly is. They have a bit of a unsteady beginning with plenty of miscommunication and mistrusts, but then we see a turning point in their relationship. A turning point that makes Gregori despise himself, and Savannah reads his mind and memories, and learns who he really is, and a trust begins to form. We also get a side character that I hope one day gets his own story (Gary). We see him in future books too, which is fun and you see a hint of a story that could happen. There is some quick witted humor that is delightful, and the narrator is amazing. She has done most of the books from book 1 to book 10 I believe apart from Rebecca Cook who has done a couple. But I adore her inflections and I fell in love with her in Dark Challenge, so its always a delight to listen to her again. What I also liked was seeing their relationship develop more and you see a hint of playfulness enter the relationship, and Gregori softens towards Savannah, We see the romance between them really blossom especially once they get to New Orleans. There is some suspense elements as well from two different factors. Now this is a story that will either be you love it or you hate it, I love it because of seeing Gregori in previous books, and even though this isn’t my favorite book of the series, I always have fun with it. But I will warn you in the first part of the story, it is not easy to read, there are some darker elements, but the later half is more playful and light and fun.The Cover This isn’t my favorite cover for the series. I do like the foggy background, but there is something non realistic about this cover, but I love the colors and the wolves at the bottom.Overall View Dark Magic is a highly sensual and dark romance at times, but has witty humor, intrigue and danger, a story of redeeming love and passion.

You aren't going to believe this....... I finally like a heroine in this series!!!!I was a little worried at the beginning that since Raven is Savannah's mom that she was doomed from the start, but girl got her shit together. This book had the perfect about of "I don't want this, wait maybe I do want this, but I'm going to fight just because" in it. Savannah is the couple from the first books child. Born to be Gregori (who is my favorite character so far) Life Mate. I totally understood her in the beginning. I mean, her PIA mother didn't raise her to understand her culture as a Carpathian. She wanted her to make her own choice like all "human women" have the right to. Which was stupid on her part. Everyone calm down and let me explain before you loose you minds. She is Carpathian not human. This is not a case of arranged marriage when you can love someone else and/or hate your true mate. THEY ARE MADE FOR EACH OTHER. And without each other they will live an awful life. Gregori was in extreme pain the entire 5 years he let Savannah go explore and become a famous Magician (which I'm not sure how this made sense, but whatever). Savannah did realize pretty earlier in the story that she was wrong, she was just scared and once she was in with Gregori - she was IN for the long-haul (unlike her mother her is probably still hemming and hawing. Gregori was amazing. I loved how he started to let go of his caveman tendencies because he just wanted her to be happy. Savannah was a cute, funny heroine. And she definitely held her ground with him.. She had some pretty good one-liners in there too. "Keep hoping, my love, and perhaps someday someone will obey you.""When an old geezer marries a young chick, he has to learn to get back into the swing of things. Party time. Night life. Does it ring a bell, or has it been too long?" This books makes me excited to continue with this series. I skipped the 3rd one because the reviews pretty much told me that Alex was going to piss me off.On a side note: Did anyone else find it weird that Savannah was not in touch with her parents ONCE in this book? Not a quick "hey, hows it going?" "Mom, guess what I'm mated". Why not 5 stars? Because there is no epilogue... These books just end... I mean what the hell happened to Gary!
