Greta used to be one of Bones's girls (and I really wonder whether Cat will ever know that besides the hookups with multiple random parterns, Bones also used to have permanent female residents as his blood donors in his house). Now, Greta's grandchildren are in trouble. Her favourite grandson Frazier has disappeared and her favourite granddaughter Isa is forced to marry a gangster.Greta will ask Bones'help and he will sent Chance to help her. Bones is Chance's sire. Chance will be attracted to Isa and he will try to spend more time with her. Isa knows nothing about the supernatural world or about her granny's real age as a matter of fact, but she will be equally attracted to Chance.A very nice short story that takes place in Bones and Cat's world. Only Bones will have a short appearance, but it doesn't really matter because Chance is equally charming and funny.

This is a short story about a woman named Isabella and her brother Frazier. Frazier becomes mixed up with the mob, and his involvement causes Isa to be forced to marry a man she has no desire to be with. Lucky for Isa her grandmother has an old friend named Bones; and Bones has a loyal friend named Chance who comes to save the day. I have had this book for awhile and I have put it off for a long time. I am such a huge fan of Cat and Bones love story that I wasn't sure how I would react to any of the other Jeaniene Frost love stories. I was concerned that I would read the novel, and spend every page wishing it were another adventure of Cat and Bones. I was pleasantly surprised to realize it isn't Bones and Cat that keep me coming back for more; instead it is the writing of Jeaniene Frost that captivates me. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this story, Jeaniene Frost has a great way of making you fall in love with the characters she creates. The characters are always well structured, and the women in these stories never just sit around waiting to be saved, they are front row ready for action. Jeaniene Frost does such a marvelous job writing about vampires you would think she was one herself, I am keeping my fingers crossed she really might be. The details she uses to describe the hunger each vampire experiences and the scents that come over them put you right into the vampire’s skin. I highly recommend this book to adult readers, this is one of my favorites series, and anyone I talk to that picks up the books in The Night Huntress series, and The Night Huntress world becomes instantly addicted.

"Happily Never After" ist eine Novelle, die nach dem ersten Band der "Night Huntress" Reihe spielt. Leider wurde diese Novelle wohl nie auf Deutsch übersetzt. Mir hat sie richtig gut gefallen! Es geht um Greta Spaga, die Bones um Hilfe bittet, weil ihre Enkelkinder Probleme mit der Mafia haben. Bones sagt, dass er ihr selbst nicht helfen kann, da er jemanden suchen muss, deswegen schickt er Chance. Chance bleibt leider ein wenig blass in dieser Novelle, ich kann ihn mir nicht so gut vorstellen. Isabella und Greta sind tolle Protagonistinnen, beide mag ich richtig gerne! Chance lässt sich auf jeden Fall viel Zeit, sich um die Probleme zu kümmern, was hauptsächlich wohl daran liegt, dass er Isabella mag. Mehr will ich aber nicht verraten, den Rest könnt ihr dann ja selbst lesen. ...Die Story war romantisch, sexy und witzig. Von mir gibt es 4,5 Sterne und eine klare Leseempfehlung! Wer Englisch kann und die Reihe liebt, sollte diese Kurzgeschichte unbedingt lesen.Edit: Im November 2022 habe ich das Buch noch einmal als Hörbuch gehört. Die Vertonung gefällt mir richtig gut!

Set in the world of the night huntress this story takes us away from the usual main characters and let's us see a little of the world away from the constant drama surrounding Cat and Bones.I really hated the situation in which Isabella was in and loved the way Chance played with her betrothed before he was finally killed. Short and funny, it was a great way to fill in half an hour of free time.

When Bones is asked for help by a human he cares for he sends Chance to assist her. Greta is worried for her grandchildren and doesn't hesitate when it comes to accepting Chance's help. What should have been a simple job becomes much more complicated when Chance sets eyes on Isabella but can he help her and her brother?I've read quite a few novellas and can happily say this is one of the best. Although it is part of the Night Huntress series it doesn't feature Cat and we only have a brief appearance from Bones but it is still well worth reading.I loved getting to find out more about Chance and hope to see more of him & Isabella in the future. We also get to see Bones through Greta's eyes which was interesting, I'd have loved to have heard more from her. She was a great character & had me laughing out loud with some of her outrageous comments! There was a surprising amount of character development for such a short story & I was left caring about each of the main characters. Although I'd have loved to read this as a full length novel the story is still a worthy addition to the series & not to be missed by fans.

This was a cute addition to the Night Huntress series that introduces readers to Chance and Isabella ("Isa"). When Isabella's brother gets into trouble with the local mob, she finds herself engaged to Robert "Robbery" Bertini, the next big crime lord wannabe. She goes along with Robert's rediculous demands - agreeing to a date, getting fitted to his mother's wedding gown and playing the attentive (sometimes) fiancee, all to keep her brother safe. Her biggest fear is that something will go wrong and adversely affect her grandmother's health. When a handsome stranger shows up in town claiming he's here to help, she's completely unaware that he's been sent by Bones - at her grandmother's request.Another hilarious story by Jeaniene Frost, with strong female characters and sexy alpha guys...er...vampires. This series is quickly becoming my go-to-guilty-pleasure when I need a fun read after one too many serious crime thrillers. I'm looking forward to reading At Grave's End and returning to Bones and Cat's story line!
