Mirror, Mirror Audiobook Summary

When one of their friends mysteriously disappears, a group of teens are forced to confront the challenges and secrets of their lives in this edgy and suspenseful coming-of-age tale from international supermodel, actress, and social media darling Cara Delevingne.

Among the students of Pimlico Academy, Red, Leo, Rose, and Naomi are misfits–outsiders who have found a safe haven in music and their band, Mirror, Mirror. For these sixteen year olds, fitting in at school is nearly as difficult as navigating their complicated home lives. Red has an alcoholic mother and a father who’s never around. Leo’s brother is in prison. Rose uses sex and alcohol to numb the pain of a brutal attack. Naomi’s punk rock princess persona gives her the freedom to be her true self.

When Naomi mysteriously vanishes and then is found unconscious, her friends are shaken and confused. Could it have been an accident–or did someone deliberately try to hurt Naomi? If she was in trouble, why didn’t she turn to them? How well do they really know their bandmate–and each other? If Naomi wakes up from her coma, will she ever be the same?

To understand what happened to Naomi, Red, Leo, and Rose must ultimately face their own dark secrets and fears, and reconcile the difference between what they feel inside and what they show to the world.

Cara Delevingne reveals another facet of her amazing talent with this powerful novel about identity, sexuality, gender, emotional pain, the complicated world of social media, and the dangerous weight of appearances that are not what they seem.

It was not the blurb, which I only had skimmed, that convinced me to read this book. It was the curiosity of how Cara Delevingne would write her first novel, because she always gets sharp criticism for everything she does besides working as a model and I wanted to form my own opinion on the book. I read the book while listening to the audio book and can highly recommend that. Right from the start you get the appropriate emotions and language style of each character, although there was a lot of swearing in the dialogues which annoyed, but you can read over it.After having completed the tedious first chapters, Mirror Mirror unexpectedly turned out being so thrilling that I could not stop reading. Especially because of that unexpected twist at the end, I have to give it this evaluation.I don´t like reading books whose characters live in a perfect world, what was totally not the case in Mirror, Mirror. Unfortunately, the characters were all extremely broken in a specific way, so it´s just as hard to identify with them. To conclude I can say that I loved how the novel finally ended and that I continuously enjoyed reading it. Although Cara Delevingne was clearly inspired by her work with John Green in Paper Towns, I can say that this was definitely not just another book written by just another famous person. It turned out to be surprisingly good and constantly improving every chapter.

I went into this book with very, very low expectations. I mean... who wouldn't be sceptical about a book that has the author's name on it bigger than the actual title. I was afraid this was going to be just another meh book written by just another famous person. Buuuuuttttt....Mirror, Mirror was actually a surprisingly good read for me. Many people's reviews on here state that they expected a YA contemporary but were surprised with a YA mystery/thriller, so I knew that beforehand. What I didn't know was that I was in for a bloody intense ride. I couldn't stop reading because I simply HAD to know what happened. And to be honest, I'm usually very good at putting a book down and going to sleep, but not with this one. However, I did figure out the "plot twist" way before the end, since I recently played a story rich video game (won't state the name as it might be a spoiler) that has exactly the same twist. So I saw that pattern like a pro Sherlock Holmes, man. Nontheless I totally recommend Mirror, Mirror to everyone that would love a good YA thriller. Especially to people who loved 13 Minutes by Sarah Pinborough!

OMG this was awesome. At first I thought it was a contemporary, then it was that plus a mystery/thriller AND a diverse read! It was truly amazing! READ IT!

It wasn't a masterpiece, but in my opinion, it was a good story for teenagers - may topics about finding yourself were taken and showed in a really interesting way. I liked our main characters, they were not annoying, I was pleased to find the ending, even if I knew how this story was going to end at the beginning of it. My only problem was with the language: a lot of swearing is present in the dialogues, but I was able to get through it. If you are interested, check this position out, maybe you will be positively surprised.

Goed boek!

RECENSIONE QUI: https://thereadingslove.blogspot.com/... Actual Rating: 3.75 out of 5 starsNote: I was sent this book by Hachette Australia for review however all thoughts and opinions are entirely my own. When a book from someone who is well-known for other crafts before their writing career - it is only harder not to be skeptical before going into their novel.Last time I read a book from a celebrity and their co-author, I was let down. When Cara announced that she was going to publish a novel, I just knew that I needed to give it a try but I was so scared of being let down again. That maybe this could potentially try to be a carbon copy of something (as this is being compared to We Were Liars often).I was nervous, however I can say with confidence that this book was worth the read. Mirror Mirror is a dark contemporary like no other and I think that's because it's authentic and true to who Cara Delevingne is as a person.Through her interviews and her taking about this book, you can tell her passion is for telling stories about young people. Her passion is for that period of time in life and the struggles that come up in that time. In some cases, we can be concerned if an author is just writing YA for the purpose of selling books - but I know that it's not the case here.Hearing Cara's heart behind why she wrote Mirror Mirror made me enjoy it a whole lot more. This book deals with very hard hitting topics so I would not recommend this to younger readers. It also has a social media presence that can be good but also dangerous.Mirror Mirror follows two main plot-lines:- The first dealing with the mystery element of finding out what happened to a friend and- Red's day-to-day struggles.Sometimes this book was confusing to follow because it consisted of flashbacks (which is how the story is told), so at times it was hard to follow but it was worth it in the end.One thing I loved about this co-written novel is the fact that it was not easy to tell that it was co-written. I've been burned before *Cough Cough* Children of Eden *Cough Cough*. It was one of my biggest concerns going into this book, but I'm happy that Rowan's and Cara's writing blended well together. One of the big reasons I couldn't give this a 5-star rating is that I couldn't really connect with any of the characters on a personal level, but the reason why I enjoy this book is because I know young people that would. I, myself am about young people. I'm a youth leader. If anything, this book has encouraged me to be a better youth leader and advocate for young people.I liked it :)
