Purplicious Audiobook Summary

In this follow-up to the New York Times bestselling Pinkalicious, a young girl remains true to herself and discovers that pink isn’t only a pretty color, but also a powerful one.

While everyone knows Pinkalicious’s favorite color is pink, the bullies at her new school don’t agree. All the girls are wearing black, painting in black, and making fun of Pinkalicious for loving pink. “Pink is for babies and stinks!” they tell her. Pinkalicious feels left out until she learns that pink can be a powerful color, and that the most important thing is to be yourself.

Pinkalicious stars in five more picture books–Pinkalicious, Goldilicious, Silverlicious, Emeraldalicious, and Aqualicious–as well as I Can Reads, doodle books, and more.

Loved how Pinkalicious found a friend despite all the girls saying "pink is for babies." Great for showing children how to develop their own interests and likes, not following the crowd.

Personal Response:I read this book to a little girl that I babysit for and she absolutely loved it. Addison liked how colorful the illustrations in the book were. She also loved how at the end, another girl came in and told her pink was perfect. Addison's favorite part was when Pinkalicious went out for a bike ride and got ice cream with her parents.Plot Summary: Purplicious started out with a little girl named Pinkalicious that loves the color pink and everything she owns is pink. All of the other boys and girls at her school start to taunt her for liking the color pink so much, they tell her that the color black is in. Pinkalicious loved the color pink, but soon started to change her mind and hate the color because she had no friends. She went to back to art class after the weekend and met a new girl that loved pink because it was "powerful" and it could change blue to purple. Characterization: Pinkalicious started out as an outgoing and smart little girl. When girls from her school started to put her down because she liked the color pink she started to act crabby and lonely. Once she found a new girl in art she went back to her same self- outgoing, smart, and happy. Recommendations: I would recommend this book to any young child in the age range from about 4-7. This is a great book to teach kids to never put each other down because everyone has their own opinions and personal preferences.

This is one of the better Pinkalicious books IMO. I love the real subject it deals with - bullying - and how Pinkalicious deals with it. This story does a good job of showing how easy it is to be a follower. It's obvious who the leader of the bully's is and who are the followers. I loved seeing how Pinkalicious contrasted with them color-wise.The change of emotions is really realistic also. At first Pinkalicious stands up for herself and is adamant about her choice of favorite color. Then she starts to really feel the loneliness that comes with bullying. After dealing with that she tries to change. She decides to get vanilla ice cream instead of her normal range of pink ice creams. When Pinkalicious goes back to school she sees a girl she's in art class with painting a picture. The girl is painting a picture of a cake with blue frosting but she's not happy with it and while talking to Pinkalicious she mentions her painting needing pink. Naturally Pinkalicious is surprised at this since everyone hates pink so she stands by while the girl adds pink to her blue and makes...... purple!I'm not of the opinion that every single kids book needs to have a strong moral lesson - I believe some need to be read just for fun - but when you find one like this which is fun, the lesson easy to grasp, and with great illustrations it's a win-win situation all around!

I liked this book about a girl that is being picked on because she likes pink. She is faced with a difficult choice: continue to like her favorite color, or drop pink and pick up black to fit in. I will be sharing this one with fourth graders this year.

SUMMARY: "Purplicious" is about a young girl named Pinkalicious whose favorite color is pink, however, she is teased at school because all the other students love the color black. Pinkalicious has anything and everything pink and uses pink in everything she does. The kids at school tease her by saying that pink is for babies and no one, boys nor girls, should like pink, so Pinkalicious begins to feel self-conscious. One day, Pinkalicious stumbles upon a girl in her art class who is painting a blue cake and decides to add some pink to her painting. Magically, the cake turns purple after mixing the pink and blue paint together! Pinkalicious finally found someone who appreciates pink the way she does and she even sees how using pink to mix with another color makes it all the more powerful. THEME: The theme reflects self-reliance and self-esteem as Pinkalicious realized she shouldn't be bullied by the other students for choosing pink as her favorite color and that everyone is entitled to their own opinions. PERSONAL RESPONSE/RECOMMENDATION: I chose to review this story because when my sister was young, she would always ask me to read it to her. I like the message that the story conveys because when I was little, my favorite color was (and still is) blue but I would be told by other students that blue was a "boy color". However, that didn't stop me and I still seemed to own anything and everything blue! This story is perfect for ages 4-9 and I would recommend it to anyone who comes across the challenges of peer pressure.

Purplicious is a cute story about Pinkalicious who struggles to accept who she really is. Some of the girls at school keep making fun of her because of her love for pink. They say that the new color is black. Pinkalicious doesn't like that, and she finds it hard to accept her love of pink. For a while she changes her appearance for other people, hoping she wouldn't get made fun of. She didn't, but she didn't feel like herself. One day in art class, she finds a student painting a cake. The student talks about how the cake needs more pink. Pinkalicious is shocked and tells her about how black is the new color. The student shows her how that is not true, and Pinkalicious goes back to being her own true self. The theme of Purplicious is about accepting yourself no matter what people think of you. It's important to realize that who you are as a person is enough and never too much. When I was reading Purplicious, I found myself going back to middle school, when people made fun of the big bows I was wearing. They were huge bows and they pretty much covered the back of my head. Everyone would make fun of them, but I didn't care in the end. I loved my bows, and I was going to continue to wear them no matter what. I recommend this book because it teaches kids to be who they want to be. It tells them not to care about other people's opinions, and that you should be your true self. Nowadays I think kids really need to hear this message because of what happens on social media and in school. This should be on every teacher's book shelf!

I honestly found this book while searching for a book on alliteration - because I have one I'm writing - and mostly liked the story in plot and language - though I personally prefer many colors to pink, and hated pink as a child. I think it may not demonstrate quite as strong self-empowerment as most of us would like our daughters to have, yet not every child is able to hold their own against the masses. In fact, in this way, Pinkalicious is much more like me as a child. Although I'd love to be quick and clever enough to transform all bullies to become compassionate loving friends... yeah, it's not likely to happen so often. Being able to find one friend who affirms us is all that happens sometimes. Pinkalicious actually did better than I did as a kid. I waited for a friend to find me who felt bad about me being teased. Here Pinkalicious notices this potential ally herself, and starts the conversation that brings her to feel good about who she is. The metaphor of pink being powerful by changing blue may not be strong enough for changing the bullies, but it may be what helps Pinkalicious become more open herself to new ideas [ie: other colors, like purple], without simply aligning with the masses who are telling her what color to like. [And I so wanted someone to say Black is not a color, it's a value! lol].

The pinkalicious series is one of my favorite children's literature series. It always has such an amazing message and a story that is easy to follow, yet challenges young readers. In Purplicious, the young girl is sad because she is getting made fun of for liking the color pink. At recesss and on the bus drive home, none of her classmates will talk to her and are all making fun of her for liking a baby color. She goes home and is sad because no one will talk to her and she feels all alone. Her family starts to notice that she has a case of "the blues" and tries to cheer her up by taking her to ice cream but she does not get her usual pink flavor, instead gets plain old vanilla. She hates vanilla ice cream and her parents reassure her that everything will be ok because there are some girls at her school that do like pink as well. In her art class, she meets a girl painting a picture who needs pink and they become friends, proving that there are girls who like pink as well. The girl is now happy because she has met a new friend who also likes pink and is not making fun of her. The theme is this story is to stick to who you truly are, because there will always be people who do not like the same things that you do, but you will find people who you do have things in common with, and those will be your friends. You are never truly alone in the world. I love this book because it can reassure kids that you are never alone and to stick to what you truly believe in. Everyone gets made fun of at some point in their lives, but it is important to not give in to what they think and to always be yourself, and that is why I would highly recommend this book. By stating that her brother also likes pink, she is defying gender stereotypes that is often presented in traditional children's literature.

SUPER CUTE!!! Purplicious is the story of Pinkalicous and how pink is not the in color anymore and everyone likes black. She struggles with trying to fit in with the rest of the girls and she thinks that she is all alone in the world. Then she sees someone in art who thinks "pink is perfect." I loved this children's book and the message it has about how we sometimes think we are the only one in the world and no one will understand what were going through, then we realize there are people in the world who can relate with you. She stayed true to who she was even when through the girls making fun of her. This would be good to have available in your classroom library for grades 1st-3rd.

This was my all time favorite book as a kid probably because my favorite color is purple. But also this is a great book that helps kids realize it’s okay to be different then all the other kids. I felt like that’s why I really connected to this book as a kid because I felt like I wasn’t always right with all the trends as a kid and I like other things but this book made me feel like that was okay! I think everyone feels a little different in their own way and this book really speaks on that even though it is just about liking a different color than other girls it can speak so much deeper kids than you think. I know it did for me as a kid!

I liked Purplicious better than Pinkalicious. This little girl doesn’t change her opinions just because “everyone else” has changed their’s and give her grief about it. I must say that her parents are no smarter in this book than the first. They take her out for ice cream and say she has the blues, but they really don’t teach her any coping skills. She is taught that her preferences have power by another smart little girl, which may be the point, and I think that is cool!

This is the second book in the pinkalicous series! This story still follows pinkalicious, she meets a new friend who loves the color purple! After having a small disagreement on which color is better, they come to the realization that the colors work better together! This picture book is great for kids to learn that it is okay to disagree with others, and that sometimes two things are better together instead of separately.

Purplicious was a wonderful follow up to Pinkalicious. I loved how, despite what her classmates thought, Pinkalicious never really waved from her love of people. This is a story about staying true to yourself despite what trends may be popular at the moment. This is a wonderful story for parents with young children.

I actually liked this more than Pinklicious. I thought it was funny how all the girls liked black. They must be in 6th grade. I feel like all little girls start rethinking pink in the 6th grade. Liked the ending. This art work is so darling.
