Scaredy-Cat, Splat! Audiobook Summary

It’s Halloween, and Splat is determined to be the scariest cat in the class. Unfortunately he’s just too much of a scaredy-cat. He’s afraid of a little spider, and everyone says his costume looks more silly than scary. And when Mrs. Wimpydimple tells a ghost story in the dark, Splat gets so frightened that he tips over his jack-o’-lantern. But when the lights go back on, the entire class is scared silly by a small, black, furry creature with a big pumpkin head. Whooooo can it be?

Splatty is back!!! And boy is he in a pumpkin of trouble this Halloween! He decides today is the day he becomes the scariest cat in school. Of course he still freaks out over his new pet spider, which is scary enough. So he and his mouse sidekick Seymour head for school to take part in a costume contest. First though, teacher cat Ms Wimpy-Dimple puts the kitty-gartners thru scary storytime! And the spookiness gets to Splatty (naturally!), Splatty freaks (no surprise there!) and the jack-o'-lantern pumpkin lands on his head and boom, either he's the Headless Horseman of legend, or just a clueless Hoarsely Whimperer Kittycat! Splatty the Cat still charms young and old with his antics and his big heart. One hopes this is one cliche in cat fiction that will never change! Sounds deep? You bet!Four starsLove is kinda Splatty with a spooky little cat like him!!!

Splat the Cat has his mind set on being the scariest one in the class this year. Unfortunately for him, he is too much of a scaredy-cat. Everything makes him jump including a little tiny spider. The whole class thinks his costume is supposed to be silly and when his teacher reads a spooky story to the whole class, Splat gets so nervous that he knocks over his jack-o-lantern. However, when Splat stands back up with his head stuck inside his pumpkin, he gives the whole class a great big scare. I read this book to my preschool class at work and they absolutely loved it, so much that I read it twice in a row. The illustrations in this book are cute and enticing. The language is fun and flows easily. I can’t wait to order this book for my future classroom and read it every year during the month of October.

Back in 2008, Splat the cat burst onto the scene with his first adventure. Since that time he has fallen in love and enjoyed a Merry Christmas. Now, Splat is ready to celebrate Halloween and wishing to be the scarriest cat at the school party. Can he do it?! With his ever present mouse friend Seymour and wise advice from his mom, Splat heads off to school determined to scare. Scotton's latest Splat adventure is begging to be read aloud with all the enthusiasm and dramatics befitting this funny feline. This is a welcome addition to Halloween titles, suitable for preschool through 1st grade. The tale is told supported by Scotton's own adorable wide eyed illustrations, that will illicit giggles and grins. Couple this with Boo to you! by Lois Ehlert for some gentle halloween fun for little ones.

I really enjoy the Splat series. A clumsy, silly black cat with a lot of themed books makes for easy shelf-fillers and fun read alouds. Kids relate to Splat and find the illustrations and stories humorous and easy to read. I have my October display stockpiled and this was one of the first books I chose to read aloud to my kiddos. It was a good time as we kick off October reads!

Splat is worried he won't be scary enough in his spider costume for halloween. When a jack o'lantern falls on his head during a lights out, he scares everyone and wins anyway :)
