Shattered Audiobook Summary

In New York Times bestselling author Cynthia Eden’s latest novel featuring the Last Option Search Team (LOST), one agent is forced to face her past as she uncovers secrets about the man who may be the key to her future.

Criminal psychologist Dr. Sarah Jacobs is all too familiar with the kind of bad boys who belong behind bars. But the dark, dangerous man she meets in the New Orleans underworld is a new kind of ruthless, and all too irresistible.

Jax Fontaine doesn’t claim to be a good guy, but he’s loyal to his own code and brutally honest about what he wants. He and Sarah may be worlds apart, but when they’re skin to skin, nothing matters but the heat between them.

And when a deranged killer targets Sarah, Jax will do whatever it takes to keep her safe. . . .

Audiobook review. I don't do a lot of romantic suspense but books like this make me feel like I'm totally missing out! I was enthralled by the writing, plot, and characterization. Sarah and Jax are complete opposites on the surface but are a lot more alike once you see into their depths. I liked the evolution of their relationship and the plot devices that helped them transition in growth and development. The secondary characters added value and context to the story. They were constructed uniquely and were solid. The plot had me on edge and built anticipation in perfect execution. The way the events tied together was impressive. The narrator did an absolutely amazing job with the different voices and tones. The beginning gave me chills. She does this creepy whisper voice that really gives life to the words. I loved it. Safety: No OW/OM/Sharing. No rape. Definite yes to abuse. Graphic.

Now LIVE!*Amazon US*Amazon UK*Barnes & Noble* "Some people get happy endings." Sarah said. "Even if they have to walk through fire first." Shattered starts off with the LOST team still in New Orleans after closing their most recent case. Before they leave Jax Fontaine hunts down profiler, Sarah Jacobs to ask for her teams help in finding out where he came from before he was taken as a boy. Before he could ask her though, she is attacked in her hotel room and Jax saves her. Sarah's dark past is making an appearance again and both she and Jax realize that she has an enemy in New Orleans. Jax felt an instant connection to Sarah when he met her and will do anything to protect her from danger. They start on a twisted journey, trying to find a killer and uncover secrets from both of their pasts. Along the way things get uncovered that neither Jax nor Sarah ever thought would come out and they find themselves trying to protect a lot more than just each other. Jax was notorious in New Orleans as being a violent, powerful man that residents feared. But Sarah could see the deeper side of him. He was a fierce protector in a really rough around the edges kind of way and loyal to those he cared about. We met him in Twisted and right away I knew I needed to get more of his story to find out what he was hiding behind the tough exterior. I loved his character and how possessive he was with Sarah, not in a creepy way but a majorly sexy way!Sarah's dad was "Murphy the Monster" a serial killer that tortured his victims until they begged for death. He taught Sarah from a young age how to be a killer like him and how to read people. She used the evil from her father to become a profiler and turns what she was taught into something good. I thought she was a strong character and I actually really liked her in this book. When we first met her she came off kind of stand offish so I wasn't sure how I would feel about her, but in this book she opened up so much and the change was amazing. Jax brought out a different side to her and it made me realize how truly perfect they were together.I felt like this book was different than the rest of the series because it was more suspenseful and a little darker but I loved the change. I was kept on edge the whole time while reading and I hated when I had to put the book down. There was also a softer side to the story that I thought was absolutely amazing. I really did not know that Jax would be as sweet as he was but I loved it and I loved how it calmed the rougher parts of the book. There was darkness, there was cuteness, and I absolutely loved all of it.Overall, I really enjoyed this book and am so happy that I got to read it early because I was nonstop thinking about it ever since I read Twisted. But oh my gods, that ending! The epilogue killed me so here we go with the waiting again...

Sarah knew evil. Her father was a convicted serial killer and she made it her life's mission to get in the heads of killers. So when she discovered bodies dropping, she refused to be afraid. And why would she be? The most dangerous man she'd ever met, Jax, was determined to keep her safe. What happens when the killer they're hunting is also hunting them?I will admit, Sarah annoyed me for only one reason. She suffered from silliness, thinking that with multiple attempts on her life, that she could take care of herself. And I'm not saying she couldn't. There are women out there who have no choice but to do it on their own. But she wasn't alone. She had a team of people who did this stuff for a living. Why go it alone when you can have support? Stop your nonsense.I really liked Jax and discovering the bits and pieces of his past. Finding out what made him the way he was made me a bit sad, but it gave his character such depth and I appreciated it. The author did a great job with his character. I even liked how his life had ties to Sarah's, without them even knowing it. Be it fate, destiny or kismet, these two were meant for each other in the most twisted of ways.Find more here: Shattered

4-4.5 stars – Romantic Suspense ThrillerA solid romantic suspense thriller with an uber-creepy serial killer villain and an awesome, swoonalicious, protective, besotted bad boy hero! Definitely the best of the series, so far. And that ending? Now I'm anxiously awaiting the next book!

COVER READING A dark deeply emotional story of love against all the odds with a mind fucking suspenseful twist. Evil has so many faces. That’s why you can’t ever trust what you see.WOW WOW WOW.... my head is spinning and my heart is rejoicing. Shattered is a brilliantly constructed romantic thriller that I devoured in a single sitting.I was quite weary of reading this book after I read the blurb. I considered it to be some sort of enemies to lovers romance in which the detective fell in love with the criminal BUT it was nothing like that. Infact the plot was completely different from what I imagined it to be. And I absolutely loved it. This was something like I have never read before.SHATTERED centers around Sarah Jacobs, a criminal psychologist. She has suffered a lot with her father being a psychotic killer. Her father loved her in the only way he could but he sort of setup her mind as that of a killer but Sarah put her killer instincts to the best use by joining LOST (Last Option Search Team) as a criminal psychologist. Enters Jax Fontaine, a criminal, a self-made billionaire, a man risen from the ashes. Jax is continuously haunted by his own demons, he is unable to recall his past (childhood) perfectly and so he wants Sarah to help her find his family and the person he was before he became Jax Fontaine. But Boom Boom Boom, plot twist, suddenly Sarah's life is in danger. She is being hunt down by a psychopath who seemed similar to his father. Is the man hunting Sarah her father or someone else? Will Jax ever discover himself?Let go,” he told her, “and go wild, for me.”This book is full of heart pounding action and suspense, it also has a love at first sight sort of vibe and I really really loved it. .....Sarah and Jax were complete opposites but still so alike. Their characters were constructed in a very unique way. They were really developed and I got engrossed in them easily. Talk about sexual tension and attraction!! It was insane. The romance was so very intense and their chemistry was just so so so strong. They heated up the pages and left me swooning. Their relationship was just perfect. They were like the broken puzzle pieces who found each other and fit together perfectly.Opposites didn’t always attract. Sometimes, two people who were alike met—and the rest of the world fell away.At last I just want to say, that this was a great readers. Please don't think and dive straight into "shattered". I am sure this book is going to win your heart.----Praise For The Author----This was my first Cynthia Eden book and I just adored it. She has an amazing and unique writing style. She even tried to confuse the readers in this book with everything that was happening. It was a very complex plot but she depicted it in the best possible way. This book had been added to my favourites list and I'd be reading it again again until I've got my fill of Jax and Sarah. All in all, a highly recommended read.----General Ratings----Jax- 5 StarsSarah- 5 StarsSupporting characters- 5 StarsVillains- 5 StarsPlot- 5 StarsStorytelling- 4.5 StarsRomance- 4.5 StarsSexual tension- 5 StarsSexual scenes- 5 StarsStory ending- 5 StarsWould I recommend this book? I have loved every book in Cynthia Eden's LOST Series so far and Shattered was no exception. After meeting Jax in Twisted I couldn't wait to get my hands on his book and he has easily become my favorite hero in this series.Jax and Sarah met in Twisted when the LOST team was working on a case in New Orleans and now that that case is wrapped up Jax approaches Sarah about her team solving a case for him. That case quickly gets swept to the side, however, when Sarah gets attacked and a girl goes missing.Jax is a total badass that everyone in New Orleans fears but when it comes to Sarah he's a total softie. He has all the qualities I look for in a hero... Protectiveness, possessiveness, and he's not afraid to put it all on the line for the woman he wants. And Sarah... While completely vulnerable when it comes to some things regarding her past, she's not a woman to cower and I absolutely love that about her. She definitely has some darkness in her... And I mean how could you not having a serial killer as a father?! But that's what makes her and Jax so perfect for each other.Along with the romance we get some great suspense revolving around Sarah and Jax and the rest of the LOST team... I don't want to say too much regarding that but there were definitely some twists and turns that I didn't see coming. And that excerpt? I cannot wait for the next book in this series!!!*ARC kindly provided in exchange for an honest review.
