The Book Junkie Reads . . .

May 03, 2020

Cameron Shaw was most certainly the dumbest smart man alive. He was the head of a million-dollar corporation and he could not see what was before his eyes. Martina was just too much for this one man to completely understand or even deserve. She was everything he wanted and needed in his life and he allowed his past to dictate his future. It takes a very near death experience for him to kinda open his eyes to what he was willing to lose for a lie.

No matter how much his friends protest his upcoming marriage to Shelly, Cameron knows he has a duty to his children, so he’s determined to see it through. Will he find out in time that Shelly’s lying and Marti’s the one who’s actually carrying his child? It’ll come down to the day of his wedding. After choosing Shelly over Marti at every turn, will he convince Marti she’s his world and the only woman he wants? He’s wealthy and powerful, at the top of his game and in the peak of his prowess as a man, yet he is lonely and always on the look-out for a woman who is a dead ringer for his dead wife. Well, much to his detriment, he finds her but soon learns she is nothing like his dead wife on the inside. Just as he gets ready to jettison her from his life, she announces she is pregnant, as much to rope him into marriage and give her access to his millions, as to cover up the discovery of her bulimia. Cameron Shaw is a tough negotiator and known throughout the international business community as a man who can hold his own. But in the face of Shelley’s announcement, he reverts into this silly, insecure, unreasonable, less-than-thoughtful man who lets her get away with anything. He’s essentially led around by the nose and won’t believe any of his friends when they point out that fact.Enter Marti, a woman who is a world-class artist in her own right, a popular children’s author, and one of the directors of her own international business enterprise, but Cameron only knows her as simply Marti. His daughter loves her, states clearly and loudly that she wants Marti as a mother, but Cameron just seems to have gone deaf. And this three-way struggle: Marti’s love and desire to be a part of Cameron and Emma’s life and how that crashes into Shelley’s golden dreams of wealth, power and position plus Cameron’s seeming inability to see truth about either of these women is at the core of this story. It is a story that winds its way all the way through the novel and each time one of these characters crashes into the other it appears to become even more hopeless. Emma, the five-year-old daughter is caught in the middle. Here’s my problem: on the one hand I am saying to myself, “Can’t Cameron simply take Shelley in hand and force her to pee on a pregnancy test stick? Wouldn’t it seem to be the first question anyone would ask in today’s world? Yet Cameron seems content to take Shelly’s word for everything. On the other hand, it is evident that Cameron is being chased around by a whole household of demons, at least emotionally speaking. There’s his mother’s refusal to tell him his father’s identity. He battles anger over an incomplete family structure all the time. There’s the guilt over his wife’s death, as if by getting her pregnant he killed her. There’s the guilt over raising Emma in an incomplete family, something he is hoping to remedy with the woman who claims to be pregnant with his child. So is he one of “the Hunted Ones?” It would seems he is not only “hunted” but haunted as well..I don’t like it when really intelligent people act like they are brain dead, and I really get angry when good people perpetrate unbelievable hurt on others for some pretty silly reasons. Yet in this book the reader will see lots of that and unfortunately fiction/art imitates life. So on the one hand I get really angry and impatient with Cameron for his thoughtless actions and words, but on the other hand, I know that he is being eaten alive by his old angers and guilt. And all in all, maybe that’s the point of the novel. In the end, do we often perpetrate so much hurt against those we care about thoughtlessly by letting our insecurities drive us down life’s path? It’s worth considering. Many will become tired of Cameron’s wavering loyalties, his stubborn choices and hurtful way of handling issues as well as the people in his world. But again it begs the question of whether or not this fictional situation resembles reality far more often than we suppose.Jennifer Ryan is a darn good writer and reading her work is a pleasure. This story bothered me a lot, but I give it a 4 out of 5 rating because I think it poses some important questions and forced me to consider how my thoughtless actions and words can bring so much pain in the lives of those important to me. It’s a book well worth reading. But it isn’t fluff nor is it an easy story to process.I give it a rating of 4 out of 5.This review was originally posted on Book Binge by Judith.

Cameron feels a lot of guilt that his wife died in childbirth and the fact that he grew not knowing who his father was. Marti grew up in a well known family and just wanted to be accepted for herself. They meet by accident and it's love at first sight even though Cameron doesn't believe he can ever love again. His girlfriend announces she's pregnant after being caught out by one of Cam's friends throwing up in the bathroom. He feels he has to be there for his unborn child. I didn't particularly like the way he treated Marti all the time, but I understand his thoughts. Marti was so forgiving and truly loved him and Emma.

Thee books keep getting betterThis one made me cry. I don’t think “ hunted” fit this story but it was still really good. The books are getting better and the character development gets better with each book. I’m wondering if this is this authors first series, because her skill improves with each book. I’m looking for ward to Morgan and Tyler’s story. I also like that I leave each story wanting more and end up getting the more I need in the next books. Everyone is in each book, so I didn’t end up missing them as the next story takes place.

The right brideGripping storyline, great characters and we'll written. There was no other way she could have written about Cameron, he was an idiot. No other words could descent him so well. If course Marti should have made him suffer a little more than she did or simply decked him...

No HeroWOW, untold reasons for beating Cameron. First time ever where I disliked the so called hero. Even at the end where he was trying to make amends. I found him to be weak and wishy. Still the story kept me captivated.

Good story. The problem with each book in this series is the author drags things out. Too much thought processing.

“The stupidest smart person” is a flashing neon-light theme throughout this story of the rich and famous. The unshakable mindset and guilt feelings that drive Cameron Shaw’s decisions in The Right Bride create conflicts that threaten to destroy the lives and happiness of the most important people in his life. Through much of the story, I want to give him a good thumping and tell him to get his head out of the sand, wake up, and get his priorities straight. When his actions began to make his vivacious little five-year-old daughter Emma unhappy, I really got out of humor with him. To be so smart in some ways and so “dumb” in other ways was astounding. As is evident, Jennifer Ryan did a super job of engaging my emotions and keeping me turning pages.Marti (Martina Fairchild) grabbed my attention in a very different way. Her caring, insightful nature; her ability to see and act on what is truly important in life makes her special; while her aloneness touches a tender spot in one’s heart. How she relates to others and copes with difficult situations reveal a multitude of facets in her personality. The layers of her life and her unsung accomplishments that come to light as the story unfolds are more reasons to keep turning pages. She is an intriguing character. The beautiful, husband-hunting Shelly Ramsey is a different sort, but she knows how to appeal to a man. After an unhappy childhood, she remodeled herself and is now physically lovely, well-spoken, a great sex partner, nice to her ‘prey’ but not always to others. Her single-minded pursuit of wealth and position (AKA a rich husband) stirs up conflicts galore. Her ability to make herself look good in these upheavals is amazing. The secondary characters are a super group of ‘doers’. They do their share of stirring up conflicts. George Knight is a prime example. Even though he is dying, he makes his mark on the outcome of the story. His love for Cameron and Emma is longstanding. However, the love he feels for Marti is like a kindred soul love that is strong and caring. Elizabeth and Sam, Jenna and Jack, and Jimmy, Cameron’s driver and after-school companion for Emma are genuine friends that support, berate, and do whatever it takes to help their old friend Cameron find his way and to shepherd Marti into the fold and love her for who she is.The living arrangements in George Knight’s mansion, after his death, seem contrived. But it does position the primary characters for the climax that is a heart-stopper momentarily then sets the emotions jangling. Also, Cameron’s clinging to his past for so long seems a little extreme, but it makes for a breath-holding read. The Right Bride raises ire, brings laughter, tears, fears, and joy. It is an attention holding happy-ever-after. It does take the mind off the “slings and arrows” of a trying day.Originally posted at: http://www.longandshortreviews.com/bo...

Cameron is a single father of a five year old girl. He is presently dating Shelly. Little does he know she wants him for his name and money so she can live comfortably. Enter Martina with her new found friend in George. He is elderly and dying and his children ignore him. He asks Martina if she will stay with him until the end and she agrees. Cameron is a friend of George's and when he enters a club to dine with Marti Cameron is attracted to her. Shelly enters and tells Cameron she is pregnant with his baby and Cameron feels hes trapped so he agrees to marry Shelly. Marti feels certain that Shelly is lying but he doesn't believe her. There is a lot that goes on over the course of this book. It really held my interest even though it was about 300 pages. I just couldn't put it down. Its a good read
