Tomb of Ancients Audiobook Summary

From the New York Times bestselling author of Asylum comes the final book in the creepy fantasy series praised as “darkly delightful.”*

Fleeing the nightmares of Coldthistle House, Louisa and her friends have taken up in a posh new London residence. But religious zealots from the shepherd’s army are flocking to the city in droves, and ominous warnings are being left on Louisa’s very doorstep.

With the evil influence of her father’s spirit growing stronger, Louisa knows she’ll have to pick a side in the coming war between the old gods, whether she’d like to or not.

Louisa will do whatever it takes to save herself–even if it means returning to Coldthistle House. And when she strikes another devil’s bargain with Mr. Morningside, she’s forced to join his supernatural staff on a journey to a gateway between worlds, a place of legend: the Tomb of Ancients.

But as always, Louisa knows there’s a catch. . .

In this epic finale to Madeleine Roux’s gripping House of Furies series, eerie photographs and beautiful illustrations from artist Iris Compiet help bring to life a world where gods and monsters are at war–and no one will escape the battle unscathed.

What a great end to a phenomenal series. I can't give this book enough praise. Some people were bummed that a certain ship didn't sail, however I enjoyed the ships that were in this novel. Dalton was always too precious for this world ❤️

This was definitely one of my favorite series i’ve ever read, but i would’ve liked a better ending for henry and for Louisa to have ended up with lee. Her ending up with khent felt forced and like the author needed a last minute love interest for louisa. I would’ve rather her ended up with no one then him. oops i keep editing this review but she has so much going for the book with the found family trope and had to add in a love interest at the end and i won’t get over it. also for the first two books i really wanted her to end up with henry because i can’t help but want and enemies to lovers scenario and it felt like it was building to that. but then he turned out to be gay and i also love that for him. henry supremacy he was kind of selfish and greedy but it was because he had been through so much and no one can argue with me that he didn’t deserve better. he’s just a little baby when dalton betrayed him (even though it was for good reason) henry was all like “but you promised:( :(“ he had feelings even if it didn’t seem like it ok i’m done goodbye.

First. The Binders are sick with their cruel jokes and depressing games.Second. Unexpected romances that I will never complain. I needed them. Haha.Third. Found friends that became family always make me want to cry grateful tears by the end of the series.Fourth. My girl Louisa has come so far and I'm so proud of her. Fifth. A mixture of sadness and awe of how the war went and the cost of not how to win it but how to stop it and to start anew.Sixth. That epilogue is the balm that I need on my wounded soul. I just need all of them to be okay. Like, with each other. And hope this is not another alliance gone wrong. And since it's an ending I get to decide, I'll think of it as a friendship of two sides that will endure to eternity for the good of the world. Now, that's the ending I want. Haha!

Wow! What a great ending to a great series! This is another one that I'll miss dearly (and consider buying my own copies for future reading). I really did enjoy this one, despite my previous statement for saying that it moved quickly. And it moved very quickly, but I never really felt like anything of note was lost due to the pace. The only thing I think that I miss that the previous books had was the horror aspects? The feeling of mystery and dread that seemed to creep up and dwell around the corners. I enjoyed being reunited with the old beloved cast and crew, and REALLY enjoyed some of the new characters. I'm the president of the "DALTON SPICER DESERVED BETTER" group. Sign-ups are free and there are snacks and refreshments at meetings. I also really enjoyed Fathom, and I'm a little bummed that she didn't get more parts in the story.I thought the idea of starting some chapters with sections from Dalton's journal was a great idea, and I loved getting more info on how much Mr. Morningside had changed from when they were traveling together. There wasn't honestly a lot of the good ol' Devil in this book besides from passages in Dalton's journal, and I think I'm okay with that? He seemed to be more of almost an enemy in the past books to me. In this, there are much bigger problems than some bratty devil playing tricks on Louisa. The various creatures in this book, however, were so freaking cool!! The illustrations of both of the Binders that we read about in this book will probably play parts in future nightmares. To keep from rambling too much, I really enjoyed this book! I'm stoked that my ship is actually canon (OMG?? DAHLIA? So cute. I loved the hell out of the Epilogue). The thing I liked most about this book was just the writing and the visualizations of the characters and places. I'll quietly hope for a new series that takes place during the epilogue, but I'll be satisfied with what we have for right now.

While this story kept moving and everything somehow I just felt that something was lacking in here but I am unsure what it is. Maybe it's the fact the story seems more like part of the previous book because the events in here spring right off of Court of Shadows (and yes you definitely need to read that one first or this one will make no sense whatsoever). Don't get me wrong...this is still a great story! But I definitely liked Court of Shadows more. I have noticed sometimes that certain things in books bother me. I certainly noticed it while reading Landfall about Star the Pegasus. So much of the story is negative and that definitely affects my mood. I may not notice it while I am reading but it can affect me the next day or that night, especially if something else happens. Than I am more likely to be triggered. And I think what I don't like in this one is the story is mostly one giant attack. These attacks are continuing from Court of Shadows. It's like a war. I guess technically it IS a war between the Devil and the Angels and poor Louisa just finds herself stuck in the middle of it. And while there is some other stuff going on it here the majority of the plot is about these attacks and how they can somehow stop them. I mean it's pretty negative. I guess what I liked about Court of Shadows was the mystery of the unknown. And while there is some of that in here the brutal fighting just overwhelms the plot. I guess it makes sense since this is the last book in the trilogy and the whole book is sort of like a climax at the end of a movie. Everything ramping up. I also found some things about the epilogue confusing... But there are tons of creatures in here just like in the previous book. Creatures, exotic & bizarre places, plot twists that will shock you and lots of fighting. This is definitely a very original and well developed fantasy world. Oh this book is set in 1810 so we have a year for this one.Truthfully I am unsure how I feel about how it ended... I don't mean the epilogue but the end, the bit before the epilogue. It certainly was not what I was expecting at all. I am not happy or sad. It was just... Not what I was expecting at all. I guess I don't like some of the events that had happened. But I guess that is what happens when you mess around with powerful magic and deadly creatures. Things can backfire and go a vastly different direction. I certainly have enjoyed reading this trilogy! I do recommend it.

A nice wrap-up of this atmospheric trilogy, but, gosh, were some of the scenes VERY gory and graphic.
