When a Scot Ties the Knot Audiobook Summary

New York Times and USA Today Bestseller

On the cusp of her first London season, Miss Madeline Gracechurch was shy, pretty, and talented with a drawing pencil, but hopelessly awkward with gentlemen. She was certain to be a dismal failure on the London marriage mart. So Maddie did what generations of shy, awkward young ladies have done: she invented a sweetheart.

A Scottish sweetheart. One who was handsome and honorable and devoted to her, but conveniently never around. Maddie poured her heart into writing the imaginary Captain MacKenzie letter after letter . . . and by pretending to be devastated when he was (not really) killed in battle, she managed to avoid the pressures of London society entirely.

Until years later, when this kilted Highland lover of her imaginings shows up in the flesh. The real Captain Logan MacKenzie arrives on her doorstep–handsome as anything, but not entirely honorable. He’s wounded, jaded, in possession of her letters . . . and ready to make good on every promise Maddie never expected to keep.

Men in kilts, amirite? Sexy Scottish dude, who is verra, verra good in bed, finagles his way into a fake marriage with a scrappy Englishwoman.Do I really need to go on? Is that not enough to get you to try this one out?!sighOk, if the steamy scenes aren't enough for you, then maybe the promise of humor will suck you in?*clears throat*Madeline is painfully shy (read: has panic attacks in crowds), so when she's faced with the London Season, she makes up a teeny-tiny white lie.She tells her family that she's met and become engaged to the perfect man...Captain Logan MacKenzie! And then she proceeds to write him hilarious fake love letters for years!Of course, she has to post the letters to make it look real, but she makes sure that the regiment she's sending them to doesn't actually exist.

4.5/5 stars!I really enjoyed this book, definitely one of the better Scottish romance erotica novels out there because it revolved around the characters and not just sex. The characters had dimension to them and there was lots of humor in the book as well. Totally would recommend it if you love men in kilts and a fuffy/fun read!

4.5 Captain MacFantasy Stars When a Scot ties the Knot was such a cute and fun book. I loved both Logan and Maddie. I thought they had a great connection and the sexy factor was very high. The only thing that kept this book from being a five star read was they took way too long to finally get together. I got they both had issues and for the most part the push/pull didn't bug me. I just wanted more smexy time. I kinda wish there were books for Logan's men as I found them sexy too. But really who can blame a girl I mean men in kilts enough said!!

Screw it...this deserves 5 stars since I still giggle when I see updates for it. Upped my rating #livingontheedgeOnce I saw the premise of this I KNEW I needed to read it. Madeline has a huge social phobia. She doesn’t do well in crowds and is so desperate to not be introduced into society and set on the marriage market she invents a beau and naturally to keep her family from knowing the truth she writes letters to him for years. Because, you see, you are mad for me. Utterly consumed with passion after just a few chance meetings and walks along the shore. You made me a great many promises. I was reluctant to accept them, knowing how our nascent love would be tested by distance and war. But you assured me that your heart is true, and I . . . And I have read too many novels, I think Oh I loved Madeline from the beginning. All her letters to her imaginary Scottish Captain made her so likeable. She was able to make fun of herself and be herself and the letters were a diary of sorts. So you can see why she would be horrified to learn that all those letters actually made it to a person and he has now come to claim the girl and the castle she was given. Anytime I read anything about a Scottish man in a kilt the first image that comes to mind is Sam Heughan of Outlander….’rawr’ Meet My Captain MacKenzie He has been at war for years and now with it over he returns to his homeland to find that there isn’t really a place for him and the remnants of his men. Logan needs a place to settle with them and wants desperately to give them all a better life since each is broken in their own way. So he strikes a bargain with the quirky Madeline. They are to be married and consummate it once…then they can live separate lives. But she isn’t as worldly as he and wants to be sure that she won’t fall in love with him. She has a wildly romantic imagination and so sometime it is hard to remember to harden her heart against him. Oh, Lord. Now he was not only an impoverished orphan but an impoverished, unloved orphan with a passion for books. Her every feminine impulse jumped to attention. She was vibrating with the worst possible desires. The instinct to soothe, to comfort, to nurture, to hold.“That pitying look you’re giving me,” he said. “I dinna think I like it.”“I don’t like it, either.”“Then stop making it.” “I can’t.” She fluttered her hands. “Quickly, say something unfeeling. Mock my letters. Threaten my beetles. Just do something, anything reprehensible.” As Maddie keeps putting off the consummation of the marriage the tension builds between them and I loved every second of that. The dialogue between them and how they got to know each other was a fun journey every step of the way.Off to the side there are some other fun characters Grant who plays an interesting role and has lost the ability to form long term memories often forgetting where they are and that the war is over. Also there is the cute Aunt Thea who was a great supporter of Maddie’s love affair through letters and is thrilled that the Captain is not dead and has finally come into her family. “Is this the moment where you warn me that if I hurt her, you’ll slip poison in my tea?” “No, no. What I have to say is much worse. If you’re Maddie’s husband, that means I’m going to mother you.” She gave him a quick, tight hug before releasing him. “And you’ll just have to endure it.” Now I realize that if you are a strict regency romance buff and nitpick at historical details and inaccuracies then this book could drive you crazy. I’m not judging I have the same issues with Sci-Fi most of the time. But I totally loved the relationship and story so much that I totally didn’t care. It was fun, whimsical and exactly what I needed to read at the time.I still think that Romancing the Duke is the best book in the Castles Ever After Series but this is a close second. These can all be read as stand alones but I do recommend at least reading the first of the series since it was the best imho.

A crazy, heartwarming, verra verra steamy, ridiculous and yet charming romance set in the Scottish highlands.Madeline Gracechurch is very shy, and suffers from panics attacks, so when she is expected to make her debut in London, she invents Captain Logan MacKenzie, a handsome Scottish soldier, and her fake sweetheart! He is conveniently away at war, and she then writes fake letters to him for years! Maddie eventually 'kills' Logan off, goes into mourning and relocates to a castle in Scotland for a quiet life drawing. Unfortunately for Maddie, Captain Logan MacKenzie actually exists, received all of her childish fake love letters, and turns up on her doorstep ready to claim what's his...This was my favourite book in the 'Castles Ever After' series so far! I mean it was totally unbelievable, and similarly to the other books in the series, really not historically accurate, but at this point I didn't really care! I feel like Tessa Dare really has gone for it, in terms of a kind of parody of HR, and I really enjoyed it!The heroine, Maddie, was so shy, nerdy, awkward and yet adorable! She was a strong, independent woman, with her own career and passions, and I liked that. However, Madeline also suffered from social anxiety, and panic attacks. I liked how Logan helped her through this, and it felt well handled. This author really excels at writing great female characters I think.Captain Logan MacKenzie...he wore a kilt, and although a bit of a bad ass and bitter war hero on the surface, really was a bit of a squishy sweetheart on the inside! I loved the friendships and camaraderie that he had with his fellow soldiers, how they looked out, and cared for each other so much. They dealt with some heavy issues such as PTSD and memory loss, but supported each other through it all.The plot really was quite implausible, but was very entertaining, sweet and funny! I loved the lobsters, the nod to the Mr Darcey lake scene in Pride and Prejudice, and enjoyed the flirty banter between the two main characters. The only things that bothered me, was the euphemisms for their body parts! Logan's penis was frequently called his staff, and I just kept picturing Gandolf with his staff saying 'You shall not pass!' LOL! Many of them were weird, like Maddie's 'breeding parts' and it just took me out of the story slightly, as I fell about giggling...Overall, a light, fluffy and hilarious tale, that you just have to not question too deeply, and go with!I had a lot of fun, and think that Tessa Dare writes lovely romances. I do think she could easily write contemporary romances if she was interested in that, since many of her characters and plots are in fact very modern...

A Scottish foot-soldier's advice on how to impress women "You strip down to your skin, and then you have a dip in the loch. Wait until she comes looking for you. Because she will. They always do. But pretend not to notice when she does. And then - just when she's close enough to see and she's been watching for a while, you rise up out of the water. Like a dolphin. Or a mermaid. Shooting up through the mist and pushing your hair back with both hands"-Rabbie thrust both hands through his hair to demonstrate-"with all the little beads of water trickling down over the ridges of your shoulders and chest." He danced his fingers down his belly. "Like so."Monroe snorted. "So he's supposed to go down to the loch at half-crack o' the morning, paddle about in the frigid water for an hour or two, and then emerge? I'm finding it difficult to believe she'd see anything impressive."My 1st book by Tessa Dare.A good question why I read it, because I am not A. a fan of the book or TV series Outlander (I have never read/watched either)B. a fan of the Guy-in-the-Scottish-Kilt-Trope And the reason: because of Anne's excellent and funny review and I am happy to say it did not disappoint. It was fresh, smart, funny, amusing and ... verra sexy (sorry, I just had to...). And the benchmark for it: it made me suspend most disbeliefs I may have had on credibility. The love story is solid & believable, it's very nicely built up from beginning to almost the end where we have a little will they/won't they, but nothing to upset the balance too much. The narrator, Carmen Rose also made a great job of it and did credit to the lovely Scottish accents. But anyway, THIS BOOK IS FOR YOU, if YOU like- men-in-kilts- Scottish castles & Highland scenery- the forced marriage trope- want to learn about the mating rituals of lobsters... as in ... Nephropidae. GO AHEAD and READ IT. This is total fun.

"When a Scot Ties the Knot " is the third book in Tessa Dare`s historical romance series "Castles Ever After".Tessa Dare impressed me again with her witty plot, colorful characters, smart humor and steamy mind-blowing romance. All of her books have always been keepers for me and this book is no exception.I LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF IT![image error]In this book the very imaginative Madeline Eloise Gracechurch have invented a secret suitor so her father ceases his attentions on having her find a husband. She has written to this non-existent Captain Logan MacKenzie for years and then decides to kill him off in her letter. What she never expected was that the Captain in her imagination turned out to be a real man insistent on marrying her and being master of the Lannair Castle.Madeline Gracechurch is one of those shy heroines who considers herself plain and unattractive. But she is highly intelligent and visionary and has a dream of becoming a illustrator to naturalists. The way she waited for the lobsters to mate made one of a hell funny entertainment-she was so sheltered, crafty and a bit sassy.I would love to be her friend in real life.I also found it unusual that she has a step-mother who loves her like her own daughter. She is amazing in the way she handles Logan`s brooding manner and the way she finds her place in his heart without him knowing.Captain Logan MacKenzie is a soldier and a irresistible hunky Scot that found his way in stealing my heart from his first appearance. He says he is empty and heartless, but he cares for his men like no other,he says he has no dreams whatsoever but can`t help but long for Maddy`s affection. He supported her in her dreams, protected her against every threat and put her pleasure before his own.In his eyes she is the Worlds most beautiful woman, and with his help she bloomed into a Confident woman sure of his love.Such a selfless,loyal,strong,golden-hearted hero made him so dreamy for me as it did for Maddy.I love every banter and conversation between Logan and Maddy, and it made it even better that both shared love in reading novels!***“And then there was you. This strange, sweet woman that wouldna recognize me in the street but told me all her secrets—and made more of me than I could have made of myself. Someone who was dreaming of me, wishing to hold me in her arms. It felt . . .” His voice caught. “It felt as if I’d tugged on a loose thread of God’s tartan, and a world away, someone tugged back. What was lies and foolishness to you was more than that to me. Your letters gave me the dream I didn’t know how to imagine for myself. They brought me to life. And then you left me for dead.” -Logan

(Tropes: Marriage of Convenience, Spinster/Wallflower, Enemies to Lovers, Fake Relationship, Unstarched (both))Certainly had many moments, it’s Tessa Dare, so how can it not? But it did not wow me like most of her books does. I loved Maggie, but I never quite warmed to Logan as much. Not quite sure why. But I would certainly recommend it. I DID read it in one sitting. *****- What had she done? Just when it seemed she couldn’t pay enough ways for telling one silly lie in her youth . . . this happened. She’d agreed to marry a perfect stranger. One who cared nothing for her, and one she was in danger of caring far too much about.*****- By the gods, she was bonny. Far prettier than her letters had led him to imagine. Also smaller, more delicate. “So . . .” she said, “this means . . . you . . . I . . . gack.” Much less articulate, too.- She spent her days waiting on lobsters to have intercourse. Naturally, she’d wondered about the human equivalent from time to time.- “Once I get to know you better, I should have no difficulty finding reasons to despise you.” “Is shameless blackmail not enough?” “I would have thought it would be. But then you told me about your men’s dire circumstances. I saw how loyal you are to them. It all became too sympathetic. I need a new reason to dislike you.”“I’m entirely too good in bed. Have a way of ruining a woman for all others.”She pulled her leg away. “Boastfulness would be the first flaw, then. That will do for a start. What’s the worst thing you’ve ever done?” He pushed his hands through his hair. “I’m beginning to think it was marrying you.” “No, no. Don’t show a sense of humor. That ticks a box in the wrong column.”- “I’ve spent years studying all sorts of creatures. Do you know what I’ve noticed? The ones that build themselves the toughest, strongest shells for protection . . . inside, they’re nothing but squish.” “Squish?” “Goo. Jelly. Squish.” “You think I’m squish inside.” “Perhaps.”- “I’d take you to that ball and make certain that Lord Varleigh and every last one of those naturists—” “Naturalists.” “—every last one of those insects knows to keep their feelers off my wife.”- I noticed how you flirted with me downstairs.” “Flirted? Don’t be absurd.” “You stare at me. You’re fascinated.” “It’s just the kilt.” “It might be partly the kilt. It’s mostly the swagger.” “The swagger?” She tried to laugh. But he was right, he did have swagger.- Oh, Lord. “I dinna think I like it.” “I don’t like it, either.” “Then stop making it.” “I can’t"*****- “We need to talk about that comment you just made. Something about how you won’t attract notice?” “Yes. Well, what of it?” He put his hands on the dressing table, one on either side of her hips. His blue eyes pinned her, as surely as if she’d been a butterfly pinned to a board.“Like hell you won’t attract notice,” he said. “You have my notice.”3.75 stars
