This was a very useful and practical guide for mental health issues. I loved her short, to the point chapters with tools that were also summarized at the end. The tools fitted nicely to the themes, and I’m sure everyone will find tips that they can use to improve their well-being. The author also explains concepts in a way that is easy to grasp, and I kept thinking that I must use these explanations myself when talking with clients. She was also empathic and it shows how much she cares for others, genuinely wanting to help. The use of small self-revelation were also fitting, making the reader relate and believe in the tools presented.I warmly recommend this book for everyone who wants to improve their mental health, and live more fulfilling lives.

I will be using this book for reference. The various sections deal with moods, motivation, emotional pain, grief, self-doubt, fear, stress, and how to lead a meaningful life. It's a really useful guide on how to recognise your behaviour for what it is and provides methods for understanding what's happening and for counteracting the behaviour if it's causing you stress or anxiety. The power of any thought is in how much we buy into it and how much we believe it to be true and meaningful. Thoughts aren't facts, they're judgements, theories, memories, predictions, and interpretations about the future. The brain's job is to save us as much time and energy as possible and this means it takes short-cuts and makes guesses / predictions all the time but with limited information. Mindfulness allows us to notice a thought and choose not to stick to it, but focus our attention somewhere else.

Amazing. Just fantastic and life changing. After reading this you will shake your head and say “why has no one ever told me this?” Seriously. This is life insight that everyone needs to hear and it’s written in such a way that it’s easy to understand. I highly recommend reading this book. Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read an early copy!

This book is like a mental health toolbox for anyone who concerns about mental health and well-being. It filled with different tools for different challenges. Whatever it is you’re facing —stress, anxiety, low mood, lack of confidence, grief or self-criticism —you will find ideas and ways for processing how you’re feeling, getting new perspective and strategies to help you cope.It is divided into 8 big chapters of different issues to tackle which are :1. On dark places2. On motivation 3. On emotional pain4. On grief 5. On self-doubt6. On fear7. On stress8. On a meaningful lifeEvery chapter is further discussed in a short sub chapters and it eases readers to just flip the page on any topic that concern them. But, reading the whole book won’t hurt😉I find it helpful and beneficial as it comes with simple diagrams to illustrate why our mind works as it does, practical tools and strategies such as breathing techniques, visualizations and also journaling prompts for readers to document their thoughts and experiences.

I think the title of this book says it all really. This is a book with many tips on how to take care of your emotional and mental health, whether you're currently suffering with poor mental health or not. However, like anything to do with mental health it is also down to each individual to engage and implement what they feel is useful. It's very accessible, easy to understand and there are even chapter summaries with key points at the end of each chapter. You may know some or all of this information already, but I think it would be useful to everyone whether that be as a reminder, for reference or for someone who is struggling with their mental health at the moment. I appreciated the language used in this book as it is friendly and clear. I also enjoyed that the author even included her own stories as examples or to clarify a point. There is no feeling of superiority from the author when reading the book. Some of the topics discussed in this book include motivation, emotional pain, grief, self-doubt, fear, stress etc. With a few chapters under each topic. It doesn't delve too deeply, but enough for the information to be useful.I think the author has done a really good job in putting all this information into one book, as I feel like I've read a lot of this before, but in different books. It's so useful to have it all together in one book. Personally, I think it's a book I will go back to again and again for reference, as the many page tabs I have used would testify.I would give this book ⭐⭐⭐⭐.5 stars for readers who are beginners into this subject and I would give it ⭐⭐⭐.5 stars for readers who have read a lot on this subject. Therefore I give it ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars overall.

This is probably the mest non fiction book ive read. I think its exactly what I needed and I will definitely look back on some parts of it in the future. It includes a lot of helpful exercises and tools that are great to get help with your emotions and self improvement. I also love that the author included small sections about her own private life and how she has used the tools herself making the reader relate and believe in the tools presentedThe book is made of sections so its easy to go back and look at whatever you need at the moment. The author is a licensed therapist and the book includes a lot of references to research If you need or want a self help book to read I highly recommend this!! I tabbed this a lot to remember quotes or tools mentioned

I host a virtual book club that reads non fiction centred around mindset, mental health and self development. This was our April read. I have rated this book on the book itself and not my experience with the book, let me explain…This is a great book for someone who perhaps hasn’t read much self development or is wanting to start learning about their thoughts / emotions. However for me personally, being 3.5 years into my own self development journey I didn’t feel like I gained a tremendous amount as I felt I’d either read a lot before or have worked on these things within my own journey, I just wish I had this book 4 years ago as it would have been amazing for me back then to be provided with all of the tools I have since learnt over time. With that being said, I don’t think this book is for those who are self developed / deep into their personal journey, so this isn’t a criticism of the book at all I think it is a fantastic book for those either being unable to afford therapy / life coaching or wanting to start learning more about themselves. I know so many of the other book club participants loved this book! This book is what it says it is! I am pointing out this fact so people understand who the target demographic for this book is, this book certainly doesn’t deserve bad ratings it is an incredibly helpful read written in an easily digestible way for all.I am really glad I read this so I can recommend this to anyone who I feel this would suit, as that tends to be the problem with self development / mental health literature the gap is so wide for a beginner to how overwhelming some of the teachings in certain books are for someone who’s never read or perhaps opened their mind to those kinds of things , I know I felt this way 3.5 years ago so imagine others do too. I really loved the morals and belief systems of this author and the fact she has written this book to help as many people as she possibly can to have access to the correct information around mental health. So beginners to self dev - READ THIS BOOK!If you’re not a beginner then read Atlas of the Heart! (My absolute fave, somewhat similar in the breakdown and format. My review is also on my goodreads account)

At the risk of sounding hyperbolic, this is one of the best and most practical books on emotional health I’ve read. It’s on a very short list with the likes of Boundaries and Quiet. I will definitely be recommending and returning to this book as a reference.

Good book for basic psychology and tools. I'm a therapist and found it a little basic, but is a good book for patients or friends.

This is a great book. It is well referenced and researched. I approached it like therapy because it gives you prompts to reflect over after every chapter and acts as a guide in understanding the workings of our minds, words and actions. At first, it felt a bit repetitive but even for someone like me who is constantly delving into psychology books and courses, there was alot of wisdom shared that either I hadn’t thought about before or needed a reminder of again. I took some mental notes to apply into my own life and relationships. If you’re someone who struggles with day to day anxieties, this can bring some healing into your life. The outcome depends on the effort each individual puts into doing the work for themselves and how determined they are into taking the necessary changes needed to improve one’s mental health and overall personal development.
