If you’re a fan of science fiction and fantasy, the Monster Hunter series might be on your wish list. These bestselling books are chock-full of interesting characters, compelling plots, and fascinating worlds. All of which make for an unforgettable reading experience.
Coming up is an in-depth review of the Monster Hunter book series.
About Larry Correia
Larry Correi was born in El Nido, California. He spent his childhood on his parents’ dairy farm, so unlike other kids of his age, he didn’t do a lot of sports. Instead, he mostly read books.
Larry always seemed to find a way to keep a book in his hands, even during holidays. However, not everyone in the family encouraged his passion. His dad didn’t like his habit and thought he should only read about specific topics, such as tractors and cattle.
This didn’t stop Larry from enjoying the written word practically whenever he pleased. He read virtually anything he could get his hand on and kept his books in a small library.
When it comes to the sci-fi genre in particular, he first became fascinated by it when he read John Dalmas’s books. Afterward, he took a liking to other authors from this sphere, including Frank Herbert (the writer of Dune).
It was at this time that he decided he would become a sci-fi novelist.
Today, Larry is most famous for his New York Times and Wall Street Journal bestselling series Monster Hunter International (MHI). There are three more prominent anthologies written by this talented author:
- The Grimoir Chronicles (Hard Magic is the first entry)
- The Saga of the Forgotten Warrior
- Dead Six
Nevertheless, Monster Hunter remains the finest fantasy series by this full-time author and firearms instructor.
Monster Hunter International books reviewed
Let’s take a closer look at each title from the Monster Hunter International series.
Monster Hunter International
Published by Baen Books, this is the first book of the epic fantasy series, which follows Owen Zastava Pitt. He wakes up in a hospital to receive a tempting proposal. Monsters are real, and he’s offered a proposal to join Monster Hunter International – the leading beast eradication company in the world.
This isn’t a conventional urban fantasy. In place of a slow-burning plot, you get a story that starts on a high note and ends with a bang, making for numerous thrills in between.
Monster Hunter Vendetta
Owen Pitt stopped an evil creature last year. However, this also made him famous in the monster world, which is why he now has countless enemies. One of them is a cult called the Church of the Temporary Mental Condition.
Monster Hunter Vendetta is another fun read. There are even more shootouts and action sequences than in the first novel to keep you on the edge of your seat.
Monster Hunter Alpha
The third installment in the series centers on Earl Harbinger. This leader of Monster Hunter International has a dark secret – he was cursed to live as a werewolf nearly 100 years ago. He finds out another werewolf is lurking in the woods and wants to assert himself as the alpha.
This bestselling Monster Hunter title is a great choice if you’re looking for a thrilling read. It’s paced with combat and gore, which draw you in from page one.
Monster Hunter Legion
Monster hunters convene in Las Vegas for a conference. While they’re having their meeting, an ancient creature wakes up and starts rampaging across the region. It’s up to the monster killers to stop this deadly beast.
Larry Correia retains the tried-and-true action-packed theme in this book. The protagonists slug it out against the evil being, promising memorable fight scenes.
Monster Hunter Nemesis
Agent Franks has sworn to the U.S. government that he would keep the country safe from monsters under one condition – they can’t make any more beings like him. The government ignores his request and starts working on a powerful creature in a hidden lab, setting the stage for a grand duel.
Like other titles from the series, this book is an easy, fun read. It’s a great way to relax and indulge in fierce combat.
Monster Hunter Siege
Owen Pitt learns fellow monster hunters are missing in action. He launches a rescue mission, which quickly spirals into the biggest operation in the history of the organization. The men are imprisoned, and Owen can only reach them by traversing a beast-infested wasteland.
Monster Hunter Siege is easily one of the best books of the series. Featuring non-stop shootouts, careful planning, and plotting, it makes for a compelling read.
The Monster Hunter Files
Monster Hunter International has protected the world from various supernatural threats, but the organization unlocks its archives in The Monster Hunter Files. It has tales of experienced fighters and newbies as they tackle their first monster.
Monster Hunter Guardian
When Owen Zastava Pitt embarks on a rescue mission, Julie Shackleford (his wife) must remain at the MHI fort while taking care of her son Ray. She doesn’t mind the jobs at first, but the tedium soon gets to her.
However, she gets more excitement than she ever hoped for when she meets Brother Death. She must stop this unspeakable evil at all costs.
If you like books with strong female characters, you’ll thoroughly enjoy this title.
Monster Hunter Bloodlines
Asag, the God of Chaos, has been laying low, but Owen and the rest of the crew know he’s still alive. They want to seek out the creature and destroy him with an Isaac Newton Ward Stone.
The face-off between MHI and Asag is the main highlight of this novel. The author describes their fight in about 100 pages, and each page will leave you wanting more.
