Plan of Attack Audiobook Summary

Dale Brown is the author of fourteen New York Times bestsellers, and now in Plan of Attack, he provocatively turns our attention to the threat of a nuclear attack that is beyond our imaginings.

U.S. Air Force aerial warfare expert Major General Patrick McLanahan has been demoted and moved back to a desk job. Keeping a keen eye on what’s going on with old enemies, he notices that Russia’s heavy bomber and tactical bomber bases are busier than ever. He tries to get his superiors to pay attention but is ignored. Russian president General Anatoliy Gryzlov is determined to punish McLanahan for a previous bombing of a Russian air base. To make his point, Gryzlov launches an all-out sneak attack on America that devastates our strategic air forces.

McLanahan has collected information he needs to plan a counterstrike that could stop the Russian war machine dead in its tracks. But McLanahan is no longer in charge of Air Battle Force, his combat unit of the future, and the Russian sneak attack has left the embattled U.S. president with few options: retaliate with every weapon in his arsenal, even if it triggers a global thermonuclear war; agree to a cease-fire on Russia’s terms … or listen to a disgraced and discredited young bomber commander’s long-shot plan of attack. To prevent a destructive stalemate, Patrick McLanahan may have to take matters into his own hands.

Another good book in the Patrick McLanahan series. This is a close follow up to Air Battle Force. Russian president General Anatoly Gryzlov launches a sneak attack on America to get back at Patrick McLanahan and his fleet of warplanes for a previous attack of a Russian airbase.McLanahan has collected information that foretold the Russians' daring plan and also gives him the data he needs to plan a counterstrike that might stop the Russian. The U.S. president has few options to retaliate. McLanahan may have to take matters into his own hands.

A readable book even if somewhat futuristic and barely believable in places. It is a good attempt at guessing what the technological advances will be in the near forseeable future but regresses to the old traditional foes to develop the plot. But, it was a story that had me reading well past my self-allotted reading times in an attempt to get to the end just to see what the end of the tale was going to be. Have a go, a book for all armed conflict afficionados.

Unfortunately, I started this series with book #12. I really enjoyed it, so now I need to go back and read books 1-11.Good action, great characters, fascinating plot, maybe a little more technical detail than I'm interested in personally, but I know that there are lots of fans of that sort of stuff out there.

Plan of AttackAn excellent story about responding t a nuke attack by Russia forces, being led by Gryzlov, the Russian general that took over as president during a coup. His sole reason for living was to kill Mclanahan.

Review of "Plan of Attack" by John LietzkeI gave the book 5 stars because I thought it was adventuressum and very interesting. Fighting with the Russians was entertaining. The envolment of the Taliban made book longer.

Patrick McLanahan return in the twelfth instalment of the series. Like a plate of cheese one can't read too many Dale Brown books at once or they'll become tiresome and one can't appreciate the characteristics that make them desirable, spread out however? They're excellent (just like the special reserve cheese which was consumed whilst reading this book). Yes, the plot is far fetched and poor Patrick McLanahan has either the most stellar military career or the worst luck imaginable depending upon your perspective. Yet, like a fast paced action film, the detail, technical proficiency of the writer, large scale action scenes and blistering atmosphere of the story conceal what would otherwise be immersion breaking plot holes. If you're happy with an enjoyable story of modern air war (circa 2004 with 'technothriller' enhancements) between America and Russia with a touch of bureaucratic wrangling then you'll enjoy it. If you're after exacting realism and solid plots you probably won't make it to the twelfth book in the series to begin with.

Another unrealistic but interesting addition to the series. Although entertaining, the plausibility of having such an egocentric maniac at the head of the Russian government was a little far fetched to me. This was a deviation from Brown's normal pattern of keeping things not so far fetched (with the obvious exception of weapon systems). The character was one you love to hate. A always, I felt like the book ended too fast in one furious battle with not a lot of follow up except in retrospect. Still enjoyable if you enjoy the series.

#12 in the Patrick McLanahan series.Patrick McLanahan, USAF general, has been demoted after attacking a Russian air base. The Russian President retaliates by attacking bomber bases and ICBM sites over the NW quarter of the US with nuclear weapons. As he prepares for a second wave of attacks, Patrick takes the remaining US bomber force on a retaliatory strike into Russia.

I liked this book better than the last couple of books in the series. It was full of action and a real page-turner without some of the "out there" stuff that I felt made the prior books a bit more unbelievable. Between this series and the "Dreamland" series of books I still have plenty of Dale Brown books to read before I run out.

Halfway into the book I wanted to give it six stars out of five. But, as quite a few of Dale Browns books, the buildup is better than the solution. Still a very good book. Could easily have been supergreat!
