Pride and Premeditation Audiobook Summary

One of BuzzFeed’s best YA books of 2021!

Perfect for fans of the Lady Janies and Stalking Jack the Ripper, the first book in the Jane Austen Murder Mysteries trilogy is a clever retelling of Pride and Prejudice that reimagines the iconic settings, characters, and romances in a thrilling and high-stakes whodunit.

When a scandalous murder shocks London high society, seventeen-year-old aspiring lawyer Lizzie Bennet seizes the opportunity to prove herself, despite the interference of Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy, the stern young heir to the prestigious firm Pemberley Associates.

Convinced the authorities have imprisoned the wrong person, Lizzie vows to solve the murder on her own. But as the case–and her feelings for Darcy–become more complicated, Lizzie discovers that her dream job could make her happy, but it might also get her killed.

Three of Jane Austen’s classic novels receive a murder mystery makeover in this romantic and thrilling three-book series that’s perfect for fans of The Lady’s Guide to Petticoats and Piracy.

Pride and Premeditation is followed by Sense and Second-Degree Murder, in which aspiring scientist Elinor Dashwood and her sister Marianne, a budding detective, work together to solve the mystery of their father’s murder.

“Jane. I will not live my life sitting by the side while there are so many men making a mess of things.” And thus began the saga of Elizabeth Bennett our favorite Regency-era woman teaming up with Darcy to solve a murder in nineteenth-century London. P&P is arguably Jane Austen’s most popular novel, so I had high expectations from this book. Tirzah Price did a phenomenal job capturing the essence of the characters and transporting them into a new story while at the same time remaining true to its roots. The good -We are still given the famous opening line, with a twist, “It is a truth universally acknowledged that a brilliant idea, conceived and executed by a clever young woman, must be claimed by a man.” - The plot is where this book stood out for me I mean who could have thought about a plot like this. Amazingly though out and perfectly woven book.-The pacing was really well done as well and the mystery was perfectly crafted , I thought I figured out the culprit but then again the at the end I was convinced not surprised though but convinced at the smart choice of author.- I read several reviews and what people seem to dislike about the book was the fact that Darcy appear after like 40% of the book is complete but me being a supportive wife to my wife Lizzie enjoyed the fact that most of the book was focused on Lizzie and I think that's exactly what Jane Austen would have wanted. “Do you purposefully misunderstand everything I say, Miss Bennet?”“Do you purposefully overlook all inconvenient truths, Mr. Darcy?” - They spend most of the time bickering and glowering at each other which i live for ofc, and Lizzie is suspicious of him, but she doesnt seem to abhor truly negative feelings towards him. This was a nice touch to the plot. “So your only choice is to hate everyone?”“And yours is to willfully misunderstand everyone,” he said finally, meeting the full force of her gaze." The bad - First thing that bothered me was Lizzie's age why the hell was she 17 when the motive of the book was to show condition of women in 19th century ,this modification added absolutely nothing to the story and makes no sense to me at all.-Some characters, Lizzie’s sisters, are just background characters and don’t have much going for them like they did in the original. - I get that romance is not the main genre of the book but I wanted it to be more than just 30% . I was a bit letdown on that front.Overall a delightful, super feminist, action-packed historical murder with loads of banter and sass! And not to forget that this is the first installment in the series and I can't wait to read them.

“It is a truth universally acknowledged that a brilliant idea, conceived and executed by a clever young woman, must be claimed by a man.” This book was way more fun than I thought it would be. A remix of Pride and Prejudice, but with murder! Mr. Bingley has been accused of slaying his brother in law in a crime of passion and Elizabeth Bennett is set to prove his freedom. Elizabeth investigates the murder in the hopes of proving to her father that she can be a valuable part of his law firm. But the more she investigates, the more clear it becomes she is in danger herself.I enjoyed the crap out of this Austen cozy mystery retelling. There’s a lot of mixed reviews on this book so I was apprehensive about reading it and I’m really glad I did because now I am dying to read the other books in the series. This is a feminist take on the Pride and Prejudice story, and the author in a way fixed some things that probably didn’t sit right with those of us who love the original story. I think the author did a wonderful job weaving the murder mystery around these characters and even though it’s a modern novel, it stayed true to the original work. My only complaint is there should have been more Mr. Darcy in the story, but I might be biased on that.

A delightful combination of an Agatha Christie mystery with Jane Austen characters and setting. Elizabeth Bennet is determined to solve a mystery to acquit Mr. Bingley and at the same time convince her father that she is a worthy addition to his law firm. The Bennet family is intact as in Austen's novel, but living in Cheapside. In fact, the entire P&P cast is in a parallel timeline where they are all city dwellers. The mystery was very well done and I enjoyed spending time with some of my favorite P&P characters. This could be recommended to preteen mystery buffs as there is no objectionable language or sexual content.Thank you to HarperTeen and Edelweiss+ for a DRC in exchange for an honest review.

“It is a truth universally acknowledged that a brilliant idea, conceived and executed by a clever young woman, must be claimed by a man.” I’m not a fan of Pride & Prejudice but I am a fan of murder mysteries. Also, the cover is just completely breath taking, so I decided the give it a shot and I loved it!The characters are pretty much the same but this book includes kidnappings, pirates, murders, etc. I loved Lizzie, Jane and Darcy far more than I did in the original. Placing Lizzie and Darcy as rivals was amazing and added a little more spice to the romance.Pride and Premeditation is the first book in the Jane Austen Murder Mystery series and I can’t wait to read the next books!

This book had very sophisticated writing and continuously gave me a feeling as if I was reading classical literature instead of a retelling. The murder mystery twist to Lizzie and Mr Darcy's story was exciting and entertaining through and through!

This was SO much fun. Highly unexpected and a fresh take on a beloved classic.while the characters you know so well will be recognizable here, they won’t be in the same roles which made for a page turning experience. Highly recommend for any Jane Austen fan.

I loved this first in the Jane Austen Murder Mystery series! It’s a pitch-perfect retelling with a twist of Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, set in competing law firms, Longbourn & Sons vs. Pemberley Associates. Elizabeth Bennet is the daughter of the owner of Longbourn, while Fitzwilliam Darcy is the lead lawyer for the Pemberly firm. She longs to be an attorney in the crackling good murder case where the firms represent competing sides. If you love the original as much as I do, you can guess that sparks will fly in and out of the courtroom. While the case ensues, a budding romance grows between them. Yet uncovering the truth might prove dangerous to Lizzie’s life. WHO really dunnit? Will Lizzie escape harm? Will Darcy confess, “... dearest, loveliest Elizabeth”?Can’t wait for the next in the series!5 of 5 StarsPub Date 09 Mar 2021Thanks to the author, HarperCollins Children's Books, and NetGalley for the review copy. TWs & Rep: https://booktriggerwarnings.com/Pride...after reading pride and predjudice back in january 2021 and liking it, i decided to pick up this murder mystery retelling and i actually enjoyed it quite a bit! some things were a bit too different or worse than the original (such as mr. bennet's character) which was a bit annoying but some changes were good too. for example, i really liked (view spoiler)[ both wickham's and collins's fates and found that they both deserve what happened to them at the end! (hide spoiler)] i also loved lizzie in this one as well and there were definitely quite a few good side characters as well!my biggest issue was the romance. it seemed very undeveloped and i would have liked to see more chemistry between lizzie and darcy. it took a little while to get really interested in as well, and i think some more chemistry maybe would have helped with that.i really liked the strong, satisfying ending and it was nice to see that the book was building up to a great finish! there were also lots of good themes and lessons sprinkled throughout that strengthened the book. overall, it was a fun read and i would recommend!! i'm excited for sense & second-degree murder to come out in april!!

Available Tuesday, April 6th! Six word summary: Pride and Prejudice meets cozy mystery!Favorite Quote: It is a truth universally acknowledged that a brilliant idea, conceived and executed by a clever young woman, must be claimed by a man. (Quote taken from Advanced Copy, yet to be verified with the finalized copy!)Loved: Finally a P&P retelling I can get behind! I'm very picky since P&P is my favorite book of all time, but this was just pure delight for my little Mr. Darcy lovin' heart! While some liberties will taken regarding the historical setting, I think this is such a fun way to access a a classic set centuries ago! I also loved that several lines are used directly from the original text!Genre: Historical Fiction/Retelling/MysteryRecommend for: Fans of Pride and Prejudice (obviously), YA Murder Mysteries, cozy mysteries, or historical mysteriesReminds me of: In the Hall with the Knife meets Pride and Prejudice (obviously). Or more PG, teen version of the Stephanie Plum Series (Book 1: One for the Money)!Verdict: Gets a stared review from me! Highly recommend picking this one up. HarperTeen provided me with an advanced copy of this book for review.

I came across this book by chance when I was browsing audiobooks and since it’s been a while that I’ve picked up an Austen retelling (I used to that pretty frequently until a couple of years ago) and that I’m feeling no mood to pick up a fantasy, I thought I should give this a try. And it was a delight. I’m glad that just like she mentioned in the author’s note, she took quite a few liberties with regency England because it means we are able to get a very feminist and unexpectedly bold retelling of Pride and Prejudice here. It remains familiar by giving us the characters who keep most of their original attitudes and personalities as well as sprinkling the story with some of the most famous lines from the classic. But we also get a braver and bolder Elizabeth who wants to be a solicitor and challenges her father that she’ll prove her capabilities, and then clashes with Darcy when they both inadvertently get involved in the same case. The mystery solving can be a bit predictable though I didn’t guess one part of it till almost the end, but the writing and banter just keep us engaged throughout. The writing is a lot of fun, very witty and entertaining, and gives us quite a few memorable confrontations between Lizzie and Darcy. And I didn’t feel at all miffed that it’s too much of a slow burn because I was just chuckling at most of the story and loved the characters a lot. And it’s perfectly complemented by some evocative narration by Morag Sims. Now that I’ve encountered the author’s lovely writing, I’m quite interested to see how she retells Sense and Sensibility and hope to get to it soon.

First of all I love that #NetGalley is doing audio books now! Yay! Also, I am a sucker for anything Jane Austen, even adaptations of her books. I've read soooo many! In this variation of Pride and Prejudice we have Elizabeth Bennet as an aspiring lawyer. She is up against so staggering odds since she is a woman. But we all know Lizzie is made of stern stuff. She wants to help Bingley who has been accused of murder. But he has already hired Darcy to represent him. If she wants to be taken seriously by the men in her life she must work with Darcy to find who the murderer is and free Bingley. Some of the classic lines were rewritten in a way that makes them fun. I enjoyed the book immensely and will add it to my short list of Jane Austen adaptations.
