GoAnimate voices guide

You have many options when recording voice overs for your videos. Besides hiring voice actors and filming them yourself, you can also try a voice over platform like GoAnimate.

Let’s take a closer look at GoAnimate and explore what this software offers.

What is GoAnimate?

GoAnimate is the other name for Vyond, a platform for creating animated videos. The developers went under GoAnimate until 2018.

The biggest highlight of this platform is that it has a smooth drag-and-drop interface. This allows you to manipulate the pre-made assets with ease, so you can complete your animations faster. The assets include actions, characters, music tracks, and text boxes.

Another great thing about the platform is that you can upload your own content. Whether you wish to add videos, images, or sounds, the software lets you do so without any issues.

Voice selection

Even though Vyond has robust video creation tools, you’re primarily interested in its voice capabilities. Most importantly, is the voice selection at Vyond any good?

The answer is yes – Vyond has a solid voice collection comprised of numerous sounds you can use for your voice overs. Powered by Amazon Polly, they do an excellent job of mimicking real-life speech and making your content more realistic.

Here are some of the most commonly used Vyond voices:

  • AnnaHQ
  • Daniel
  • Kidaroo
  • Sarah
  • Stewie
  • Scary Voice
  • Boris
  • Kendra
  • Salli
  • Ivona
  • Veena
  • Kimberly

You can use these voices to record your narration and dialog directly from the platform. The characters can lip-sync your content to add a new dimension to your videos.

Once you complete your project, you can download your voice overs as video presentations, GIFs, or mp4 files for offline listening. Another option is to export your creations directly to YouTube, Vimeo, WeVideo, or other video-hosting websites.

Recording audio

When working on your voice projects in Vyond (old GoAnimate), there are two ways to record your audio. You can do so inside the Vyond Studio or through a third-party platform. Here’s how each method works.

Inside Vyond Studio

Before you start recording in Vyond Studio, you should first make sure you have the right equipment. Avoid using the microphone on your computer. It can work for some projects, but you’ll no doubt want your audio to be crystal clear.

In general, computer microphones can’t provide the requisite clarity.

Utilize external devices instead. USB microphones and those on your smartphone are a much better option because they have better tone quality and frequencies. Both of which can make the experience more enjoyable for your audience.

Furthermore, consider recording a few sentences prior to your project. Listen to them with your headphones, as they allow you to catch any background noise more easily. You can also spot other problems, like inadequate volume and poor pronunciation.

You can now record your audio in Vyond:

  1. Open Vyond on your device.
  2. Choose your Audio symbol.
  3. Press the Add Audio button, which should launch your Mic Recording session.
  4. Choose Record if you want to speak your script in the microphone. Alternatively, paste your text into the designated field.

Using an outside platform

If you want to use an outside platform to record your voice over, you’ll need to import it to Vyond once it’s complete. You can use the drag-and-drop menu to import your files. Just drop them anywhere into the studio, and the software will automatically add the audio to your Upload menu.

Keep in mind that your files must be smaller than 15MB if you wish to import them as one file. If they exceed this threshold, you’ll need to divide the tracks into several files.

If you prefer recording with a third-party platform, here are some of the programs to consider.

Murf AI

Recording your voices in Murf is relatively simple:

  1. Open the app on your Android or iOS device.
  2. Choose Voice Changer in the left part of the display.
  3. Add the voice recording from your device to your Murf Studio and send it to Vyond.

Amazon Polly

Amazon Polly can also work great for filming audio. Here’s how the platform works:

  1. Register for your Amazon Web Services (the free trial gives you access to five million characters every month).
  2. Go to your Services and enter Amazon Polly.
  3. Type in the text you want Polly to narrate.
  4. Select your voice, and you’re good to go. You can now download the recording as an mp3 file and export it to Vyond.

Speechify

If you’re looking for a voice recording platform that’s especially convenient and easy to use, you won’t go wrong with Speechify. It only takes a few seconds to film your audio.

  2. Explore the dashboard and type in your script.

  4. Experiment with different speeds, volumes, and natural-sounding voices to achieve a perfect recording.

Speechify is particularly helpful because it supports several formats, such as WAV and mp3. You can even access text to speech voices in numerous languages:

  • German

Finally, Speechify works on all major devices and operating systems, including Microsoft Windows, iOS, and Linux.

How to add voice over, narration, and lip-sync audio

Another reason for Vyond’s popularity is that it enables you to add voice overs and lip-sync to your projects. There are two methods.

First technique:

  1. Choose the character you’re lip-syncing.
  2. Press the Add Dialog button in your Dialog menu and select Existing Audio from the API controls.
  3. Press Upload Audio if you haven’t imported your files yet. Vyond should now start your Upload menu.
  4. Find and click the file to assign it to the character.
  5. Incorporate the audio file into your timeline.

Second method

The other method goes as follows:

  1. Add the pre-recorded voice over file to the timeline. Make sure to include it at the part where you want your character(s) to start speaking.
  2. Right-click your voice over file in the timeline and press Settings.
  3. Navigate to the upper part of your Settings menu and go to the drop-down panel that lets you assign the audio to different characters. This is also where you can remove voice overs from characters.
